Topping thistles in the Kubota M6132

In this episode of Jim's farming I'm topping thistles with the Kubota M6 and a 4.6m spearhead batwing topper. It's been very dry and after having a look at some of the wheat, harvest is looking like it's just around the corner. Another demonstration of agopengps, which I now have connected to my tablet via ethernet (UDP) and I've got my esprtk base station back up and running. Apologies about t...

Jim's Farming update! it's been a while since my last video, and anyway other things I've been quite busy spraying crops and reseeding a grass field. The seed bed didn't work down quite how I would have liked - after being sprayed off it was flatlifted/subsoiled then rotorvated before being planted using the combination drill. I was left with some fluffy lumps of turf so perhaps I should have g...

In this episode Of Jims Farming I'm talking about the Kubota; what I like about it and what don't like. Being honest theres not a whole lot not to like! Having had it on the farm for about 4 months I've found it to be a great bit of machinery which has done pretty much everything required of it however there are a few minor things which hopefully Kubota can improve in the future. Wow, Jimbo! It's been a long time, great to see you're doing well over your side of the country. Would be nice to get a general update on the farm, how you've dealt with the weather, how drilling is going/has gone, and how you've been. I don't know about Kubota but JD are always pushing out new software updates for the Command Center systems in our 6R /7Rs, might be worth checking (not sure if you can do it online or have to go to your dealer) if there is an update for yours, hopefully fix that freezing issue. Anyway, nice to see you uploading again, good luck with the M6 and have fun.
Hi Ted hi
Hey, great video. Thinking to work on my tractor. Do you know if opengps could work inside chiken house 50×500 feet? Thanks
Did you ever plan to make the pcb board public for others?
How you don't have a million views on this blows my mind!! Well done and very well documented. I have ran a few tractors with autosteer and am now looking into making my zero turn mower rtk. This video has pushed me harder to try it. Now the question is proportional valves or servos for the levers. 2 back surgeries says I wont be on it much anyway.
Hey James.
You couldn't tell me which AMPSEAL pins you used for that wheel angle sensor please? I'm having trouble with mine 😐
Thank you, great video! I will try to build my own auto steering device and this video gave me a push in the right direction
I like
Thanks for the video Jim, it solved lot of confusion, it gives some clarity to me.... It helped lot .... want to know in which board the ESPrtk chipis mounted .....
Hello??
How will tractor change the gears?
Hey buddy.. You did a great job
Hello! Where to get the files for making the F9P-Ardusimple board?
Thanks for the detailed video. Considering that you have prepared a PCB option, I will try to follow your path. On the net I found different schemes for your board, with and without a buzzer. Can you tell me what is the final version? P.S. If possible, post a photo of how external electricity is organized on the board.
hi james could you do a new video on the kubota , we have been running kubotas for 14 years now think they are great and have just ordered a specced out m6142 looking forward to it arriving
Hi Mike. Will try when I get time. On the whole very happy with it and the service from our dealership.
@@jimsfarming7792 that would be great. would be nice if you could do a comparison to your deere. people are far to snobby about kubota but they are fantastic machines for the price. we priced a jd against kubota and the jd same spec was 24k more.
@@jimsfarming7792 also what loader do you use on it. we have specced it with the 2.4 ton lift how do you find it around the yards
We spect ours with front linkage, 600 tires and the 2.2t Mx loader with mechanical leveling but in hindsight should have gone for the 2.4 hydraulic. I use a toe tip bucket for loading out grain which holds about 1100kg of wheat, and whilst it has no problem lifting it, it struggles to tip the bucket back when digging into the heap without dropping the loader down. They are supposed to be coming out to try and up the pressure to see if that improves it and we have toyed with the idea of chopping it in for the 2.4. We'd been John Deere for a long time and have a dealership on the doorstep - I'm still a big fan and love our little 6230, but ultimately the decision came down to price. The finish is not to the same level but with the warranty and finance package it was hard to justify the extra money on a basic 6130r.
@Jims Farming I like John deere but prefer someone else to pay for it haha. I think we will have the hydraulic leveling on ours. We have also gone for front links and pto so we can put a front mower on
En veux voir le prix de la pompe hidrolique
je ne comprends pas désolé
Nous avons besoin de la pompe hidrolique est de filtres a huile
Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing all the "nasty" details of your build. Unless you have built one of these "simple" Arduino projects you don't know how time consuming they really are. I really loved your subtle references to the time suck that trial and error is....lol....Thanks again.
/do you have the actual gerber file and drill file
ok, the r/c wheel to the steering wheel, kudos lol
Have a good farm James.
Hope you liked the 6215R, we've got a couple of them and love 'em to bits. Don't look silly when pulling a 14T trailer about, just the right size and have the power to do heavy ground work. Our harvest 2022 was going great until the header auger decided to crack down the middle! Right was we were just starting the wheat!! Anyway, hope to have that back soon so we can crack on. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your 1055 again, reminds me of our old 1075 we had in the 90s. Would love to have one of those again and kit it out with AGOpenGPS and other modern features!
It's a John Deere, what's not to like. Did seem enormous after spending too much time in our 6230! Oh dear 👎 I had a stone break a retractable finger a few years ago. Before I could shut it down it punched its way round and almost cut the auger in half. Bit of a pig to get off, got it plated up but it's now got a slight wobble on it! Got her fired up yesterday afternoon and hit 2000 hours in some oats(not overly worked for a '86!). Grain dry but straw not really fit. Did think about fitting the GPS but would need to fit a power supply from the battery (not a huge job but there's not enough hours in the day + on the look out for something a little bit wider with a straw chopper... And maybe even functioning air con!) Hope you get back up and running soon. Happy harvesting! 👍
@@jimsfarming7792 We've got a 6230 Premium too, yeah it is a bit odd jumping between the two, know which one I prefer though. Should have the header back in an hour so will be at it again soon, probably until late! Well, hope to see the 1055 soon, have a good harvest Jimbo!
Nice Canola no greens! good size seed too!
Thanks! Bit of a funny year on the crop. Had some unusually hot weather which scorched the pods but at harvest the stalks were very green and sappy (no swathing here). Think it is yielded ok but will know absolutely when it gets loaded out! 🤞
Hey Jimbo, good to see you back. Yeah this heat has been madness! We're about to start harvesting the spring barley ourselves and the wheat is going to be done as soon as we're done with that.
Which part of the country are you located? Pretty much everything has burnt off here. Wheat has scorched, spring beans have aborted top pods and are giving up and getting very short of fresh grass (he says after topping a few fields off...) Should be on osr by the end of the week.
@@jimsfarming7792 East Anglia, about 135 miles east of you. No OSR for us, just spring barley and winter wheat for cereals. This last 10 days has seen the last of green disappear from the fields. Surprisingly the barley was hanging on just as long if not longer than the wheat, but it's all looking ready now.
Great work James. Have fun with weekend .
Hi Jim, great video No subscription cost, so where do the base station get rtk correction from?( Seems like there is not any rtk2go in South Africa, or do I have this all wrong) I also have fields with no cellular connection. How would one get around that?
Hi Andre. Thanks for the comment. The base station provides a private correction signal for the autosteer on the tractor via the internet\cellular connection (I think it's called ntrip). I have also been using someone else's signal (50km away) through rtk2go which is pretty similar but open to anyone. I am fortunate that I have good cellular on the farm but there are other options using radio but I don't have any experience with this but im pretty sure it would work with Agopengps. It might be worth asking some questions on the agopengps forum. I've got a feeling it's called LoRa. The farm where I plant potatoes uses a commercial topcon system which I think works in a similar way because they also suffer from poor cell coverage on certain parts of the farm using a mobile base station. Hopefully that helps clarify things!
@@jimsfarming7792 Thanks for reply I wonder if it would be cheaper to go radio root or try to get cellular signal everywhere on my farm, which will be more convenient anyway. Will see what the forum says Thanks again for the time you spent sharing this
Have a good work James!
How’s the tractor? I’m looking to buy a M6.142
Generally speaking very happy with it. Good unit for the price and warranty offered. Have had some very minor issues - problem with left had forward reverse shuttle but quickly fixed by dealership. Comfortable cab with good visibility and controls on armrest. however some minor points - the seat doesn't twist to make it easier to look behind, the handbrake is a bad design\in a poor location . Wish we had gone for a high spec loader. Other than that it gets a 👍
Keep up the good work. James !
Looks great. What is the range of the rtk base station?
It works over ntrip with cellular connection in tractor so as long as data connection is available any distance, however as far as I understand accuracy of the correction signal gets less over 20km. That said I have been using a correction signal on rtk2go.com that is 45km away and results are very good.

On the half width tramline, we are 24m tramlines, if its less than 12m we shut off that side of the fert spreader. Or if its slightly over 12 we can reduce the amount on that side through the control box. Not sure if you can reduce the left/right side rate on yours?
Unfortunately our teagle centerliner is pretty basic. Both sides shut off at the same time and the only way to adjust the rate is to move a pin. To be fair though it does an even spread and has never striped just a bit inflexible when it comes to butts! Thanks for the comment 👍
Hey Jimmy, good to hear from you again. Seeing that lambing all I can think of is thank goodness my dad got rid of all the livestock before I was born and moved us to 100% arable!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Welcome back for the great update news. James.
Looks very good commercial ploughing in my opinion, no trash on top and level. Grass looks good to and the clovers established. What county are you?
Hi Robert. Thanks! UK based. The camera hides a multitude of sins; going round that field with the fert spreader and sprayer makes me feel seasick it so rough! The ryegrass and clover came really well - it was a winter cover to graze our in-lamb ewes on and did the business, although we are having a few issues with ryegrass in cereals so may reconsider the choice of cover in the future. It's since been ripped up and planted with field beans!
Fair play to you it’s a great job
Thanks Pat👍
Did u ever think of building these to sell I d be interested in one if u were
The trouble is I wouldn't have time to provide any support. More than happy to help if you or anyone needs any assistance to put an openag system together though!
Great video. Do you mind sharing the files for the printed board? Looks like a great solution vs prototype board.
Yeh no problem. Bit busy at the moment but I'll try and get onto it in the next day or two👌
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rblMmKgi-_YCzAvS21dt4g2h07278Fah Sorry about the wait! Busy with sheep and planting beans! Let me know if you have any issues downloading the files. I've corrected the things I mentioned on the video on both the schematic and PCB layout 👍
Just an update on the PCB. It has become apparent that there is a slight problem with the circuitry and a potential issue with the buzzer causing the esp32 to fry. This can be resolved in the current design by removing the buzzer. When I get time I will update the design and place a diode between esp32 and buzzer to prevent this problem.
@@jimsfarming7792 hello i want to discuss lot of things about this project.
Thanks for this very informative 👍
Thanks heaps for this! Jackson
Thanks for shoutout Jim.
To be fair I think your video of putting the steering PCB together is the go-to👌
@@jimsfarming7792 To all of you going throw all the trouble sharing your successes with us, a BIG thank you. Every video I watch gives me more confidence to try it! Bit scared of investing in it and then not getting it to work😬
Thank you so much for share to us a greate video about NTRIP CASTER server and AGOPENGPS tractor.
Well done, It’s a fair achievement to get it from start to finish A lot of understanding required
Hi, I wrote a reply to a your comment, maybe you haven't read it, If is not a problem can you tell to me the necessary? I would be really grateful. Thanks again and sorry.
Hi! No problem send me an email at jimsfarming1@gmail.com. easier to explain things in an email👌
Hello, Did you press any button to use the front linkage separately . Because the front linkage and the front loader in one joystick
Hi Hazem. At 1:44 You can see the valve which switches the joystick for the loader over to the front linkage 👌
Hi, The "tablet" what is it? a Raspberry PI, a android tablet, a windows tablet or another? You used the RTK? (in the Italy zone that i live is free and work well) or you have used the GPS? Thanks a lot (Sorry if the grammar is not perfect)
Hi Alessio! You're English is fine 👌. The tablet is a Panasonic toughpad that runs Windows from eBay. That's great that you have free rtk. I use someone else's free rtk (50km away) that is provided free via a website called rtk2go.com and connect the tablet to the internet with my phone. It worked perfectly in the autumn but I am building my own base station which should be finished soon!
@@jimsfarming7792 Thanks! I think that any touchscreen device with Windows work. If is not a problem can you tell to me with a message/video or something else the necessary and about the steps of all? I would be really grateful. I see that that the method of rtk2go and that of the system of my region work in the same way. This is nice. Thanks again!
Hello, I plan to make a section cut for the sprayer and I wonder how you have connected the relays to the original sprayer button panel? Thanks a lot
Hi! I'm quite lucky because It was quite simple. My sprayer controller is a John Deere el4 with auto rate control and five manual sections. When the switches are engaged to turn on the sections they connect to negative ground. All I needed to do was to wire the relays to the positive side of the switch so the connection to negative ground was made to engage the section. The limitation of this is that whilst I can still manually engage the sections it will not map coverage on agopengps. Hope that makes sense.
@@jimsfarming7792 My sprayer also has five sections, I will have to remove the pendant to see how the manual switches are connected. Thank you very much for your explanation, I hope to get the system working before the April treatments. When I get it working I'll post it on the forum.
What does the model you have cost
Nearly 20k less than a basic spec jd6130r!
I would have just keep driving forward until everything clicked, you've got a heap of grain there to push against!
