very nice location! how did you find the area?
@JohannesLee hmm so so. I eventually ended up at zixun courtyard on julu lu for the next 4 years. That location was almost perfect. Check it out !
@JohannesLee hi was wondering did you take your dog abroad to shanghai or did you get your dog in shanghai. Reason im asking is im hoping to move over to live in shanghai too and would like to bring my dog with me in a new chapter of my life. Do you have any advice on bringing pets into shanghai? Much appreciated.
Hey glad you are bringing your pet. For me though, all my pets were rescued here in China so not so much experience in bringing a pet into the country. But to my understanding it depends if you let has a microchip and which country it's coming from. Sorry not much help!
@@JohannesLee thanks for the reply. ah was worth a try i suppose lol thanks for the info.
Did you grow up in London?
Hey there. Born and raised in Philippines ☺️
Honestly i got chill every time i watch your Video. It just gave me that chill and peace vibe

Also so sorry about the flood! 😭😭
Thank you! It's still being fixed at the moment 😂
Haha I feel bad I think she thought it was playtime and got all too excited 😂
Excited to visit Shanghai again this winter. Thanks for showing more about Shanghai.
Such a soothing video describing an average paced life in Shanghai! As a ex-expat in China, love to see authentic stuff about people just living. Thank you and keep on making good stuff!
Oh thanks so much for the encouraging comment!!! How long ago were you an expat here in China?
@@JohannesLee from 2014 to 2019, I left just before the Covid hit. Planning to visit China in coming month, so excited!
The chicken adobo looks yummy! Safe travels in Europe and can’t wait to see your next videos all about it!
My highly recommended Filipino dish 🤭Looking forward to it too!!
Our old house also had window leaking during the typhoon, had to do flood control constantly 😂
Oh also in Shanghai? Yeah it was a bummer but really thankful that room is kind of empty so no damage done
Your closet is simple a dream! Not just the LYXBAGS bags but the ready to wear that you have is absolutely stunning.
Thank you for that great compliment 🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏...I try to make sure that I'm wearing comfy clothes lol
Love the vlog. So chilled and relaxing. Shanghai and Shanghai especially the former French Concession look so beautiful and green! ❤
Thank you! I think it's my most chilled vibe video yet. ☺️ helps that the French concession is a chilled area too ❤️
Muy buen vlog👍. Esta muy bien editado. Las calles, los edificios, los museos, la noche, etc. Buen viajé por Europa✈.
Thank you so much and great to see you again 🙏
although they are sort of interchangeable from place to place, isn't gutter oil still a concern for street bings?
To be honest, at least here in Shanghai, I think we're doing fine. If anything, there seems to be a lot less street food available.
A beautiful and spacious home! But I have to say that 3.8K USD / month is an insane rent for a couple😵
thank you!! Shanghai is getting more expensive unfortunately but still lower vs the likes of Singapore and Hong Kong.
Obsessed! Great content, my new fav channel --keep going!
looove that you enjoyed it!!! happy to hear this kind comment, definitely helps to motivate me :)
I love how your creative passion in your private life contrasts with your professional path, creating a perfect balance. It was truly fascinating to watch you paint, and I believe there’s no more beautiful or personal gift than a piece of yourself expressed through art.
Thank you! They are a family and I just had to offer them a painting ❤️❤️ it will be our movie night space too 😂
Hola. Mirar como hacías tu cuadro junto con las musica fue genial👍. Felicidades por tu arte. El cuadro detras del televisor de tu casa me gusta mucho.
Hello. Thanks so much for your kind words❤️❤️❤️ the painting behind the tv was created when we were in lockdown for 2 months 😄
Loved watching your art making process! And the apartment is amazing!
Thank you! Their apartment is one of a kind in Shanghai. What beautiful space 😍
Finally an interior RUclipsr who cares about Feng Shui!! I keep looking at all these western RUclipsrs and their beautiful homes but they have terrible Feng Shui and it really bothers me because I just know these people are living in qi pathways all over the space….. one thing though is I think you should move the lamp and vase with tall twigs off the sideboard behind the sofa. They interrupt the line of sight into the balcony and makes the space look cluttered. Noah Daniel talks a lot about how you also need to make space for the eye to rest and I think this would help with that. Also the mirror should go on the wall instead of stood in the corner imo. It breaks up the clean lines of the space and creates floor clutter. Otherwise I love your space so much!!!!
Hello there. It helps that I'm Chinese and grew up in a community that is big on the fengshui 🤭 and thanks for the insights, will be doing a reset some time this year and will try to move things around! Do share the link of that video too if you don't mind 🤭

The first building looks like the set of a characters parents house from nothing but 30!! #5 is perfect!!!! #7 gives airbnb in a good way
Love how you described it! Spot on haha. Number 5 was the "one" unfortunately the price wasn't right 😂
Great Video. It would be good to know which areas of Shanghai these apartments are in.
Hello! These are either in Jingan, Huangpu or Xuhui district as we were eyeing mostly on these areas😊
I’ve added Shanghai to my list of places to visit because of your content. The Cafe culture seems similar to the one I experienced in Seoul and I’d love to explore new quirky cafes in a new country! Thanks for sharing details about your work too. Absolutely love your content, it’s really relaxing to watch. Keep up the great work! 👋🏾 From London
ooh hi Lexa from London! 🤞 yeah Shanghai has a whoppping 8K coffee shops, definely nice to see quirky botuqie cafe's as opposed to the usual big chain :) and thank you soo much!!❤
Beautifully decorated! ❤
Thank you Edison!! already thinking how to make it better lol
Love your videos💕. Please keep making them.
Thank you Ashley!! ❤️❤️❤️
Welp, guess I found my new favorite RUclipsr, lol. That being said, the quality of your videos, the content, and the music choice are always top-notch. Keep going, I'm a total stranger, but I'm rooting for you!
You just made my day! What a very touching comment ❤️❤️❤️
Nice and relaxing video. And thanks for your skin care tips!
My pleasure! I always wanted to share my skincare routine as I binge a lot on youtube on all things skincare🤭
are you from Hong Kong ?
Hey. I'm originally from Philippines 🇵🇭
Johannes, first excellent video and I am certain this channel will grow rapidly in the not too distant future. One topic that I believe that needs to be expanded on, especially regarding expats is - Visas. When I first moved to Shanghai in 08 - I worked for a bank and had a standard work visa. But when came back in 2011 - my wife and I bought "business visas" from some consultancy on chengdu lu - 5000 RMB each for 12 month multiple entry 90 days at a time, so we secured this visa twice - allowing us to live in shanghai for almost 3 years. As you can imagine, in the "Expat Heyday" there were many many foreigners "trying their luck" in Shanghai chasing the China dream, many on sketchy visas or doing regular visas runs. Long story short is - what is the current atmopshere of securing visas to be a resident of Shanghai / China in 2024? Many thanks - Gordon
Hi Gordon! Those were they heyday indeed! To my understanding based on my chat with hr especially when it comes to spouses or partner coming to China. Spousal visa is easy of course for gay partners they have to find an employer who can sponsor the visa. To my understanding attaining a work visa is for sure more difficult. I dont hear much of this type of business visa for people living here anymore as it is risky and I do hear stories of people being questioned at the immigration after xx number times coming back to the country. Not sure if this is helpful though! But thank you for the great feedback, highly appreciate it!
@@JohannesLee That business visa was an example of the old style Shanghai - some under the table project by the immigration bureau. The visas somehow were issued by the consulate in LA
nice arms!
Haha thank you 🤭
我个人最喜欢第二个 因为地理位置与风景 我以前住苏州河边 真的很舒服

Hihi! Love to see another one from you (it is my weekly ritual these days lol) Curious if you also do recruiting for marketing/product marketing candidates? I am planning my return to China/Shanghai but have no idea where to start, would appreciate any feedback you might have, thanks so much!!

Does the pothos have a liner underneath? Sometimes yellowing means too wet or too dry. If it's sitting in a liner, just fill the liner and not directly on top of the soil so it'll absorb water when it's thirsty. Pothos can also do well being moist and not too wet. If you have a moister meter, meter the soil's moister level and see if its too wet or dry. It's a great tool to have to read the soil's moisture level on house plants! Your balcony came out great!
Hello! It was in a broken plastic pot so It wasn't getting enough water. I eventually repotted and seems to be finally do well now. ☺️☺️☺️
@JohannesLee Ah probably a sign of dryness! I definitely recommend getting a moisture meter though! Saved my plants lives! 😂
@@missirmalucia oh yes I have those as well!! I🤭🤭🤭
i just discovered your channel. I've always wondered what Shanghai apartment interiors looked like. I've been a life long fan of heritage buildings in Shanghai. Thanks for sharing!
Hello! It is definitely more interesting and has character than a normal high rise but only if the interior is nice...can be hit and miss sometimes🤭
How much do you need to earn to be able to afford to spend 30k a month on rent (or are there 3 of you splitting the rent)? I remember being an English teacher in Shanghai 10 years ago, I was earning 14k a month, I thought I was rich! (and comparatively, I was!) Times have changed. Rent is so much more expensive now. It's depressing, I couldn't afford to move back to my favourite city.
Hello! Before I had a partner I was mostly with flatmates especially when I was just starting I want to be closer to down town too! I think the beauty of Shanghai is that you get to choose how you live. Definitely can get something bigger and cheaper if it's further away from the city center like jingan or xuhui district.
This is beautiful, Johannes!
Hi Lexa!! thank you :)
everything is closing in your city now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!in Shanghgay!!! I use to love that city geee I
yeah some closed unfortuantely, but a lot of cool cafe's and restaurants opened too! :P
How I miss Shanghai 😢
