Do you have a part number for the self supported starter?
Just look up an automatic starter for a 1972 vw beetle. They are available everywhere. There are also small, original style high torque starters out there.
ive always loved the history of the beetle and around a year and a half ago i got myself a 99 mexi beetle (my 2nd car) it hasn't been treated vary nice so i figured to give it a new life (pretty sure it was a taxi). it was in a front end crash and needed a new front clip. it needs a whole new interior, paint job and id like to take the engine out for a basic service and rebuild to freshen it up. i am now trying to prepare myself for the road block after road block because of the unique injection system and all the sensors that normal beetles never had, the car ran briefly for around 30 sec last summer but last time it drove was 2016. the beetle was driven from Quattro Mexico to BC Canada around 4500 km trip (2796 miles) by its previous owner. to say these Mexican beetles are rare here is an understatement and getting parts has been challenging. the car has its new front end and is nearly ready for its 1st drive in 9 years i know for a fact something wont work and ill have to replace it i just hope its a part can find. my plan is to get it driving and be a solid daily driver this summer i see you also have a late 97 beetle i was wondering if you know where i could find parts more easily i know about places like the thesamba.com and www.1600i.de/ but the shipping fees are crazy, so i was hoping you know of any i may have missed that are in the us/Canada also when your getting parts do people think your talking about the "new beetle" and not the type 1 its happened to me so many times lol
My vw story: it was 2011 I bought a beetle white we couldn’t return it because the owner died but I still used it. 3 years later I converted it into Herbie it wasn’t the exact model but I changed it so it looks more like Herbie and then changed it into Monte Carlo style.
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Herbie goes bananas!! Where was it?? I want to go there!!☺️☺️
It’s owned by a private individual.
She’s a beauty!!! Wow!
Awesome
Where did you see this car?
Today at Quaker Steak Bugfest in Clearwater, Fl
@@dubworldvwadventures owners local people from Fl. ?

This explains it. ruclips.net/user/shortsCP0tal8XSv4?si=gF7S3b3T3_gzpZHG
@ thank you sir 👌👌
My brother had one when I was 8 years old took me to Herbie the love bug and I was bitten got my first one at 14 couldn’t drive but worked on it to get it running and sold it for a nicer one and on and on , now 50 some years later I have atleast 8 to 10 at a time
What a great story!
It was around halfway through 2023, I had started getting into cars and the history of them, one of them really captivated me, the story of the vw beetle. Something about its concept, its design, its reach around the world, got me hooked. So in January of 2024 I sold my entire retro video game collection to purchase a beautiful green 1972 beetle. (I was 15) And it needed a lot of help. Soon I will be turning 17, I am still working to bring this beetle back to its former glory (I’m a high school student who’s been trying to get a job for a while) Currently I am just waiting to be able to get the funds to really fix up this car. Believe me I will NEVER sell this car.
Sounds like you have a great story! Thank you so much for sharing! Let me know if you are planning on doing any restoration videos.
That beetle is made for off-roading
Yes!
Herbie looks amazing!
Thank you!
Happy birthday Herbie!! I also have one of my own. Happy birthday!!
Nice!
Really cute ! I fell in love with my friends Norwegian forest kittens and took two home 😂
Nice
😲
I have looked everywhere for the top seal for my 95 vw cabrio does anyone know where I can find a new set???
Which ones do you need @stinky6963?
@ I need the top seals and a the seals for the passenger and driver side window
One metric and other American standard.
You are a legend in the Herbie fanatic world, Dave. You've got to meet Dean Jones and have his signature and create your own website, which I followed a lot when I was a kid. You and your Herbie are just about everywhere. My dad and I have been working on a Herbie project of our own for 10 years, and we are starting to really get the ball rolling now. We can't wait to have it done.
Can’t wait to see it! Are you in our Facebook group?
@dubworldvwadventures Not yet, but I wish to be. I'll search and see if I can find you there.
I wish some company would make quality parts that ms worth our money
It’s a press fit. Put the bearing in the oven and heat it up. Should slide right on.
Not a press fit. Other side was machined properly. I had to modify the right spindle for both the inner and outer bearing to slide on and work.
@@dubworldvwadventures huh that's weird.
I saw in another video where they mounted a wooden table on the wall with a 2 x 4 and swivel block latch. I bet I could use that same premise with one of these tables.
That sounds like a good alternative!
Omg it is 3 minutes until Saturday 😂
Hell yeah brother 👍
Awesome car!
If VW would make another new Beetle with an air-cooled engine in the rear, I would buy it.
Agreed
I installed one of this from that I bought on Amazon, no problem at all with it. I click it in one side at the time.
Glad it worked out for you. In retrospect, I think using a zip tie on it might facilitate a better install.
That was me in my grand national @2:32 I couldn’t get my car to hook.
I was there. Both looked good!
Sweet car! Loved seeing the old school cars out there!
Great video man. I'm currently facing the same issue but for my case, it only happens during the first start up of the day. Subsequent start up the noise would be gone and mine shifts just fine.. Should I be worried enough to get it rebuilt ASAP or?? What would you suggest? Thanks!
What year is your VW? First thing should be to check the transmission fluid level. If it’s low, I’d recommend to drain and refill the transmission fluid and be sure to check for metal shavings. If it’s not too bad sometimes fresh fluid will quiet things down. My 63 has been popping out of first for years and the transmission is very loud when driving, but it’s still hanging in there. I do have a rebuilt one to install in the coming months. If you only hear noise in start up it doesn’t sound too bad.
@@dubworldvwadventures Currently driving a 71 ragtop. Will change out the trans fluid and see how it goes, hopefully nothing too major. Thanks for your opinion!
That Datsun is quick
It was!
I installed my lights with 3M clear tape. It withstood 50mph on the highway with rain. Today it snowed on Long Island and the tape still holds well but if you give a pull on them, they will only come off then. I used a wider clear tape around my wheels and on the hood, also applied on some parts where the wires are popping up. I pretty much used the wider tape to make it wind resistant. The tape won't damage my car because I washed it before applying my lights.
There’s always a potential for damage but that’s part of the game. The one thing I don’t recommend is to leave the lights attached for long periods if your car sits outside exposed to the sun.
@dubworldvwadventures I'm taking mine off this week. I had it installed only for Christmas. Waiting to see if I get 2 new Mavic 2 Pro Drone batteries from Santa so I can go outside and get my Drone shots later tonight before taking off the lights.
Would that air filter box been on the 73 standard ?
73 is the first year for the paper element air box. Although, I think some late 72’s came with them.
Love it!!!
No
I did anyway! And spent all day driving in the woods.
@dubworldvwadventures well I'm glad it didn't die on you Not for nothing but I'm the kind of guy that would have too
damm air cooling not working with this one lol
Looked like a great time.
@vwjawbreaker, it was, even with my mechanical issues. Fuel injection trouble and the starter failed. Thought I’d see you there.
Great tip!!
Glad you enjoyed!
I’m going to my 64
To me it looks like the bare wire wrapped around another wire is there to shield from other electrical interference but I can't be certain without seeing a diagram
It’s a first for me. These Mexican Beetles have some weird stuff!
Rocket League
I’d just swap with a early 60s to late 70s harness unless you need all those for factory equipment or whatever but if your car is super basic you don’t need a lot of those
Looks like shielded cable and the shield is connected to ground... in audio cables doing this reduces noise and signal interference etc. not sure what it's for in this situation
Apparently it’s factory
Cus they're German.
I'm a little bit jealous.
Great concrete pouring weather, not a cloud in sight!!
Is it a golf front end swap Jetta???
Yes, golf front end!
That’s awesome! What a find!
Remarkable, cool story!! Finding matching caps is almost as remarkable as the wheels!!
Imagine if I could find the car!
What’s wrong with this engine
Trying to figure it out. This is the first Mexican Beetle fuel injection system that I’ve ever worked on. New learning curve.
