‘Art of the Gods, all sacredness, heavenly origin, all embracing-creation’
Toiariki’s founding Artist Richard Francis currently resides in Rotorua working full time as a Contemporary Maori Artist and Educator, specializing in Moko (Maori Indeginous Skin Art).
Richard is regarded as one of Aotearoa New Zealand's finest tā moko artists. He is in high demand for his Moko work and, from his studio in Rotorua, regularly travels to work on clients around New Zealand and Australia abroad.
Richard is also a Level 3 World Rugby Coach, coaching various age groups to Premier Teams. Is a Father, and a qualified Teacher as a profession, has a diploma in Business Management and Graphics design.

MATARIKI CANVAS MAORI ART
Matariki Canvas
Matariki is an abbreviation of ‘Ngā Mata o te Ariki Tāwhirimātea (‘The eyes of the god Tāwhirimātea’) and refers to a large cluster of stars, known in some European traditions as the Pleiades.
According to Māori tradition, the god of the wind, Tāwhirimātea, was so angry when his siblings separated their parents, Ranginui the sky father and Papatūānuku the earth mother, that he tore out his eyes and threw them into the heavens.
Matariki is a time to acknowledge the dead of the past year and to release their spirits to become stars. It was also a time to reflect, to be thankful to the gods for the harvest, to feast and to share the bounty of the harvest with family and friend...
