A little bit of a milestone for me I flew the Q500 over water for the first time. As this is the forth flight with the Q500 I am still being really cautious with how and where and I fly. My wife and I went out to test out the new Sony A7s II. I wanted to see how the camera would handle shooting 4K internally under some pretty bad conditions using nothing but available light. Nice! Do you find you have to over-expose in Slog3 by a stop or two to reduce noise?
+David Corigliano Hi David, I have been coveting the original A7s for a long time but decided to wait until the Mark II version came out. As such I have been doing a lot of reading on the best practices for shooting in SLog and most if not all the recommendations have been to over expose by at least two stops which is what I did for most of these shots. Only those last three were under exposed due to the minimal light at that location and were shot at 51200 which gave me the most noise of the night. Even at that it was better than what I was use to on the FS700. I am using the SmallHD DP5 with Slog luts for previewing the exposure. I switch back and forth between an ungraded view and the Slog3 Lut on the DP5 while shooting. I plan on doing a better test of dynamic range as compared to my FS700 soon. Now all we need is a Metabones style electronic adapter with a built-in Clear-10 Stop ND and we have a mini FS7/FS5.
