    • @ghccrtube5007
      @ghccrtube5007 9 дней назад

      It's possible but I've never seen that combination of problems. If the aperture mechanism magnet isn't holding, the aperture will always stop down to the smallest lens opening and so the exposures will be very underexposed and the autofocus won't work. There might be more going on than the sequence gear problem.

    Thank you for the video! I managed to get this process to work, except I put in a whole new ACU instead of just a gear. Only thing I'd say to anyone trying this is to double check every electrical connection. When I reassembled mine the first time, it kept reading that the battery was dead, even though it was full. I disassembled it again to find the gray wire that is desoldered at 7:28 had come undone. Fixing that and reassembling fixed the battery issue, but certain buttons on the back panel did not work. This turned out to be the ribbon cable at 1:20 not being properly seated and locked. Both issues with my reassembly. Thank you again for the video!

    • @ghccrtube5007

      The metal finger contacts are on a plate that has broken free from the plastic gear. The screw acts to mechanically hold the plate onto the plastic gear. Super glue could be used instead but is less likely to hold long term

      The internal memory battery is hidden away on the "rewind" end of the camera behind the DC IN port - not easily accessed. The good news is that I haven't had to replace one in the 15 or so years the D80 has been out. More likely is that it needs to be refreshed by the larger, chargeable battery. Charge the main battery fully then put it into the camera and leave it a couple of days. If that doesn't work then you can start the process of digging the memory battery out.

    Glad I found this! Yesterday I got a used 18-200mm lense in really good conditions, but the VR did not seem to work and also the manual focus ring did not reach its end position 0.5m. I opened it up and found that the VR flex cable is not torn, but there is a broken trace in the flex, and that broken trace bend up a little and the focus ring got to stop at the little edge. So two problems due to this broken trace, VR not working and focus ring not fully functional. I disassembled the lense so far that I got access to the broken trace, today I will try to micro solder the broken trace, if it works, it could help me avoiding taking of the lense competely. But anyway, I ordered a replacement flex cable, but I am afraid of taking the lense apart completely for this. Maybe the trace repair works and helps minimizing the surgery 🙂What I am really afraid of is repositioning those little spring fingers that identify the position of the focus and focal length, where you say in Infinity they should touch the arrow marking, I also need to reposition the other fingers that measure the focal length position, I hope there is an arrow marking too. Puh, I really hope to get the lense fixed and back together without ruining it, really a very difficult task!! So great respect you did it!!! Greetings, Michael from Germany...

      Sorry for the delay - hurricane cleanup is in progress. Thanks for commenting. Don't worry about the spring fingers - it's not that critical... but needed. The "slip clutch" (5:20) has to be right before the AF can work. Aside from manual focus, if AF isn't working, the armature (5:45) might have to be polished with 2000 grit sandpaper. There's a good chance that a new felt bed will not only fix the manual focus but also the AF. Good luck!

    Thanks! This video was very helpful for fixing my own D610. It worked ok after the replacement of the shutter, but only on speeds from 1/3200 to 1/4000 it gives the Err code. do you think this an instalation error or a faulty part?

    • @ghccrtube5007
      @ghccrtube5007 9 месяцев назад

      If you're certain you resoldered the 4 connections on the shutter at 12:23, some new shutters might need their spring tension adjusted - if you get no exposure on those speeds, the closing blade could be faster than the opening blade by a small amount. It's a factory adjustment defect. Without expensive test equipment you can try carefully backing up the tension on the closing blade a quarter turn then retesting.

    • @ghccrtube5007
      @ghccrtube5007 Год назад

      Thank you for commenting. Good to know you got it working. The rattle, like you say, is probably the image stabilizer lens. Sometimes if the lens is removed from the camera before turning the camera off, the IS doesn't have time to move the IS lens to the storage position so it floats loose. If the IS isn't damaged, putting it on the camera then turning the camera off will lock-down the IS lens. If the IS is damaged it's usually one of four posts surrounding the IS lens has broken. It can be super glued into position if you're careful.

    • @ghccrtube5007

      If you've got room put the screws on your workspace in the location and spacing that you removed them from. At 12 o'clock place the two screws removed from either side of the eyepiece on the back. To the right of them place the right side back cover screws. Below these lay out the bottom cover screws, etc. (be sure not to sneeze). I reinsert the tiny screws that hold flex circuits after the circuit has been lifted. I've seen some people draw an outline of the camera back, sides, top and bottom then punch the screws thru the paper at the proper locations but seems time consuming to me. Nikon is notorious for making a huge variety of screw diameters, lengths, and types. Canon not nearly so bad.

      Refer to 2:40 - use a sewing needle held by pliers to wedge behind the cover disk on the AF/Man lever, then unscrew the knob from the body

    Unfortunately, I think I may have damaged my D80. I wasn't paying close attention to the instructions in the video when I was discharging the capacitor on the mounting plate, and as a result, I got a big spark and a loud bang.. Long story short I discharged the capacitor without any resistor. Despite this, I tried to repair the equipment and put it back together. However, it now won't turn on. All of the wires are properly connected, but I suspect the capacitor is the issue because when I insert a fully charged battery (reading 8V on a multimeter), the voltage immediately drops to 0.9V. Can this be fixed or is my D80 beyond repair?

    My camera won't turn on... it drains the battery to 0.9v ... What could be the issue? Is the capacitor sucking all of the juice from the battery to fill up?

    Thank you! Didn't have the split gear, but the problem with the spring loaded encoder wheel. Worked fine. And in comparison to other videos you managed not to remove the sensor, which would ruin the AF setting. This is the much better way (removing the mirror box and leaving the sensor in place). Thank you so much for your effort to record your repair and share it!

    Thank you so much, got my D80 fixed again by using your excellent video as reference. Saved me 1100euro to get a Z5. Worthless design by Nikon on the gear by the way.

    Thanks very much for this excellent tutorial. Very well done. My broken lens is working again, following your step by step guide. Maybe I can add one suggestion: wetting the remaining double-sided tape underneath the broken VR-flex with a few drops of isopropylalcohol was helpful to remove te tape. One detail was a bit confusing: the rear housing is initially mounted with only two of the three screws (2:40); I had to watch that piece several times to find out which two locations I had to use; the third comes with the ground-wire, quite some time later (6:17).

      Glad to hear the lens is working again. A degreaser/solvent like Blue Shower also works well to remove the tape if you're careful. Thank you for commenting!

      Give it a try! Takes less than a couple of hours, less than an hour if you've got all the tools and flex. Nikon no longer works on this lens, but got $250 for this repair when they did.

      I've found that it's less common that a pcb fails than a flex is not inserted completely, or at a slight angle. Check the flex on the back ( at 13:40 in video ) to be sure it's properly inserted. The shutter magnet solder connections are also a weak point
