Nikon D7000 Full screen 720p HDMI output
Leegong from the Nikon Hacking team found the data structures responsible for HDMI scaling of video output on the D5100, and then I found the same table in the D7000, so here is a video showing 720p it working.

Qonqr location bug

After many attempts to tell the support people of a game bug and getting told, that's how plasma works. I made a video showing the bug. You hover over a location one set of stats, and owner, go away & come back old values shown, go away & come back, new ones again.

Here's a quick video showing a Nikon D7000 with clean HDMI output, while playing with manual control (ISO/Shutter) This is inbuilt functionality, and Nikon have turned off by default. This has been since released on the online patch tool at simeonpilgrim.com/nikon-patch/nikon-patch.html under the name of "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview"

D5100 Hacked to only record for 1 minute

I altered the firmware on my D5100, to make it only record for 1 minute (default is a 20 minute limit) to show that I had the correct changes, without having to wait 20 minutes... D5100 & D3100 Patch to remove time restrictions can be found here: simeonpilgrim.com/nikon-patch/nikon-patch.html

Bro, you're the legend from github. The one that gave us the firmware, thanks
is there any update on this? i want to figure out how to be on fullscreen when in Hdmi output
Did you try the "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview" and/or "BETA - HDMI Output 720p FullScreen" patch?
@@SimeonPilgrim hi, I used "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview" on my d5100 and in works great for streaming, but when I tried to record video, I found out that recordings are cropped, compared to liveview. Then I restored default firmware and noticed that when I start recording, there are borders on screen showing what is actually being recorded. However, those borders are missing with your mod. Is there any way to fix that? I guess it's impossible to have different pictures for liveview and HDMI, but there are 3 info modes for liveview(all of info, min info, and grid). Maybe it's possible to have a clear view only in minimalistic mode and leave others as is?
@@maksym_chabarai that makes sense as a solution, the exist code is a trivial "just turn it off always" patch, as compared to a more complex depending which state it is in. While the more complex idea is more generally appealing. The patches were mostly a can as a "it be done, and here you might find this useful".
How to make it, Sirs?
Thanks for your help. I did the patch and it works great. I use a HDMI to USB dongle but I was wondering if there was a way to crop the picture on live stream so I dont see the black bars?
that is often done in something like OBS, or if your just using it for a webcam just relax about the black bars
Great job Simeon. Is there a way to have the characteristics in the D7000 1.03 applied to 1.05 anytime soon? Particullarly the "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview". Thanks!
If the question was to be read literally, then yes, you could pay me (or someone else) a large sum of money, and then I would take a couple of days of work and do the porting.. but you could just buy a D5... so that doesn't scale. So if the question then the more polite, 'can you just do this please?' I have a few camera related tasks on the go already, and I don't see the pressing need to port the firmware, as as best I can see the 1.03 firmware is good enough, I am happy to be told otherwise, but it's not the top of my project effort list. But if you are more saying is there other people that can help, that is a good question. Which is to say, I am glad to see there is interest, but I don't imagine this happening quickly.
@@SimeonPilgrim is there a way to get the 1.03? i can find only the 1.04 or the newest 1.05. so i have not the clean hdmi option
so how was this done? I really need to do it. Please help
I patched the firmware. This has been since released on the online patch tool at simeonpilgrim.com/nikon-patch/nikon-patch.html under the name of "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview"
@@SimeonPilgrim thanks mate for quick response - trying to understand that site! cant find the patch itself
@@markabadi you use the online tool to patch a firmware you already have, on your own PC (the patch tool run client side in your webbrowser). This get around distribution of Nikon's copyrighted software. So you need to have a firmware for you camera, you then select the uncompressed file, and the tool tells you what it can do. But to help, when you first open the page at the bottom is a list of patches that can be chosen. Also there is a link at the very top, in bold that say "Patching How-to help" that is the help for how to do patching..
So i figured it out and did it but it didnt result in a solution - same issue - any ideas?
@@SimeonPilgrim thank you - it only gave me ' Remove Time Based Video Restrictions' Nothing about clean output - tried it - still got all details there
Thank you so much for all of your work Simeon! I know that I am commenting years later.. I have a D7000, and have patched the firmware. Could you tell me how I can get a 'clean' HDMI out (picture only) while in live view & recording video? Currently, it is sending live view to the connected monitor, but it includes all of the stats & text all around. How can I remove that from the display? Thank you again for your work.
Hmm, I don't a D7000 anymore so cannot test.. but I recalled that if you chose the "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview" for the D7000 v1.03 then the LCD and HDMI output would always be clean.. looking at the patch, it's just a 2 byte alteration, which makes it seem it should be always clean after the change.
Need help,I did the pactch from the site now my REC time is limited to 14min10s...(nikond5100)
I assume you choose a high bitrate patch, and therefore get less duration as the 4GB file limit is consumed faster.
what did you record this on?
It was an iPhone 5s
i dont think ANYONE wants it lowered... i got a hack for 2 minute recording... just stop recording after 2 minutes
Robert Maughmer the description explained the why, but why not repeat it. If i can alter the firmware to stop t one minute i can change the 20 minute to be greater than twenty. But by changing it to one minute i only have to wait.... one minute.
Simeon Pilgrim ok, lol that makes since. I still think the description could be worded better.
well knock yourself out and give me your better description. I feel what I wrote explains things nicely, but I am always open to having things in a more accessible manor..
Simeon Pilgrim it's the last sentence you wrote mostly confused me "Without have wait 20+ minutes" and in the description you didn't mention a goal of 20+ minutes. So maybe "I altered the firmware on my 5100 to be able to record for over 20 minutes (which is the default time limit). To test my firmware changes I changed the recording time to 1 minute."
You da man, Simeon. Will be sending a donation shortly. REALLY appreciate all the work you and the other people do on this project.
is anyone aware of a link or forum that has the firmware patch that offers the ability to do this once put onto the D7000? Thank you!
I have been recording using the Atomos Ninja Blade 720p 60fps is all I can pull down but it looks great. Thanks for all of your incredible talent and work.
I recently bought a field monitor for my D7000 and I want to know how to do this from myself (everything is stock), thanks.
How can i do this i understand that you have to patch the software but how exactly PLEASE HELP i need to know for my broadcasting network PLEASE
How did you do that?
+Antonio LABA Labanchi by patching the software, to enable functionality hidden in the firmware
+Simeon Pilgrim You can direct me to get more information and find the patch?
@@SimeonPilgrim can you teach me how to patch the d7000
Tried the same .. But am seeing two options 'play' or 'slideshow' for me.. Am not seeing live view.. Any settings has to be changed ?
You need to turn off the "HDMI control mode", or something called like that.
Great fix and thumbs up to leegong ;)
How can i get the live view on my TV for D7000.. it is not there it seems
plug in HDMI cable, and then enter liveview mode, the LCD will be off, but liveview will be through TV at 720p and cropped. The above video is showing the cropping removed, now we have work out where/how it's set.
@@SimeonPilgrim Hey. I got a d7000 with patched 1.03 -- both "Clean HDMI & LCD Liveview" and "HDMI Output 720p FullScreen" and no matter what I set the video settings to or the HDMI display setting to I always get the black borders around in LiveView. Display used is a full-HD 1080p panel that works correctly with other video sources. What am I doing wrong?
@@jailbreaker010 have to set the camera to output 720p because if it is on auto or 1080p the “720p fullscreen” will no have impact of the 1080p output to your TV
@@SimeonPilgrim Thanks for the quick response! I have HDMI output set to 720p and video \ movie capture see to 720p 24fps. Live view still outputs non-scaled to full-screen 720p stream to the TV (with the thick back borders around). And just to be on the safe side I did reflash the camera before testing again. I must be missing something irritatingly obvious...
@@jailbreaker010 hmm, what happens if you choose output rate of 30fsp instead of 24fps.. in theory it should not impact it, but trying to guess why it's not working (I don't own a D7000 any more so cannot test)
How did you get that live view on TV.. My d7000 does not have that settings option under HDMI list... Pls help me get it on mine too...
it looks like 4.3 like theres cropping
Windows at it's best :) maybe support people also run on windows.
What??? it's an iPhone, no Windows at all.
Ah.... now i'm lost for words.
4cc3ss43 anyways, the support people say they have multiple locations in the game DB, that are duplicate. In the area shown the zone to the north-east of this zone showing the problem is also a duplicate. Anyway, a pretty much pointless game, as how zones means nothing, in game, and even less in the real world.
Any idea how to use an external monitor (HDMI output) and the liveview LCD at the same time? Thanks
Yes, but I've not made a public patch that does this.
Hi! Wow, i really need a fullscreen 1080p clean HDMI to D7000!!! Do you think its possible? And if - when do you think its available to download?
And that was all he wrote...sadly!
Thank you very much! Just patched battery hack for Nikon D5100, working great! :)
It's never too late, i've only just started and things are happening :o)
I'm surprised with the small amount of hits this has had :(
You're the coolest guy ever Simeon. If I could start all over, I'd try to learn firmware programming.
why????
From the description "I altered the firmware on my D5100, to make it only record for 1 minute (default is a 20 minute limit) to show that I had the correct changes, without have to wait 20+ minutes..." which part of this does not make sense, or did you assume the description would describe the video,so did not read it and just ask you "why" question?
Fantastic work Simeon,
