Simone Weil (1909-1943) was a French philosopher, mystic, and social activist. Known for her deep compassion for the suffering of others, Weil explored themes of justice, oppression, and human dignity in her works. She was born into a secular Jewish family but was drawn to Christianity, although she never formally converted. Weil's philosophy blends existentialism, political theory, and mystici...

    Hello! I recently found your channel from your video on Marx Estrangement of Labor because it is one of my assigned readings in my philosophy class, I am currently a student at a community college in Oregon soon to finish my Associates transfer degree. I really enjoyed the depth of the questions you asked as you were going through the reading and just the general way that your mind works, and I was wondering if you might have some time to meet and discuss philosophy as well as your pathway through life and finding success in higher education? I recently sent you a follow request on instagram, or I could also send you my email, Either way thanks for the videos, super cool insights!

      @ I thought dreams were nonsense but there is a remarkable intelligence within them. What scares me is that it doesn’t feel like it comes from me at all. Sometimes I call out to it before I go to sleep and I meet it in my dreams. It takes on different forms but I know when I am in its presence. it I feels like a kid again, it’s a feeling of joy and wonderment.

      Same. I'm so sad for all the decades lost, but it is most interesting to me to see how my dreams change as I actually now pay attention and hopefully start working on them with my therapist. I think that is a great idea to set an intention in bed before sleeping. I agree - capturing that childlike joy and wonderment is they key to it all. Well done. Thanks for taking this journey with me.

    I saw your post on BCH's 'The Agony of Eros' and enjoyed it. I was spooked when your brought up Robert A. Johnson's Inner Work book. I'm interested in his teachings on Jung's 'Active Imagination' and Shadow. That Rhonda Byrne stuff I'm not so interested in. Does the universe really give us what we want if we just concentrate on it??! I don't know but each to their own. I do have about half a dozen of Byung Chul Han's essays. I notice he has a new one out "The Spirit of Hope', which I'll look at purchasing too. The last two of his I bought were 'PsycoPolitics' and the 'Palliative society'. Both I enjoyed a lot. I also read 'Vita Contemplativa' which was good but perhaps not as essential as some of the others. Books are a passion of mine too. But it can get expensive. 😁😁

      Very cool. Thanks for sharing. For me, Han, Heidegger and Jung might be the trinity. I hope I like The Secret because I bought her other 3 books, but we'll see. I need to check out Spirit of Hope - sounds super cool. I am half way through Vita Contemplativa, I think. Next month, I will def. buy more Jung books. Maybe I'll do a Jung haul.

      @@philosophy_schilling For me Heidegger is difficult, though Han through his books has made me appreciate him more recently. What about Wittgenstein? I admire him as a person, though his writing is difficult. I haven't seen Han mention him at all. I read a lot of Zen stuff. David Rynick who is a Zen roshi has a book out called 'Wandering Close to home'. If you're interested there are some podcasts over on his website that are worth a listen. Also you might like Shozan Jack Haubner at his youtube channel 'Zen Confidential'. I've become a big fan.

    • @philosophy_schilling
      @philosophy_schilling 13 дней назад

      Yes, Heidegger can be difficult. Sein und Zeit will have to be a book I give a second read to eventually, but I would really recommend his lecture essays - What is Called Thinking and On the Question Concerning Technology and some others. I think Han would like Wittgenstein's end of Tractatus as it can be read as slightly mystical, and in general could say something about the famous phrase on silence. There are many ideas he could unpack. I actually have my first published philosophical article written on his war journals because I, too, find his personal life and perspective compelling. So I'm right there with you. I'll check out the Zen materials - thanks.

    This is favourite passage: If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. If you are not afraid of dying, there is nothing you cannot achieve. This video also remind d me of a great passage from hanshan’s cold mountain poems especially the translation by Gary Snyder. Cold Mountain is a house Without beams or walls. The six doors left and right are open The hall is blue sky. The rooms all vacant and vague The east wall beats on the west wall At the center nothing. Borrowers don’t bother me In the cold I build a little fire When I’m hungry I boil up some greens. I’ve got no use for the Kulak With his big barn and pasture - He just sets up a prison for himself. Once in he can’t get out. Think it over - You know it might happen to you. I adored this video and would definitely value more like this you have a great capacity to draw people in to the narrative. ❤

  • @tkgawa
    @tkgawa 28 дней назад

    As a comment on gynocentric societies, I think you provide an answer in the possibility that Adam is intersex. The ontologies of ancient and non-western people aren't based on modern or western concepts of social organization. Just as 19th and 20th century researchers recognized that there were more agrarian societies than hunter-gatherer societies, they recognized that there were more androcentric than gynocentric societies. They explained this by proposing that one replaced the other in a straight forward process. I think this is a symptom of thinking in terms of dichotomies, and thus hierarchies, rather than observing reality. More recently, researchers have learned that societies transitioned back and forth between settled and transient. I'd like to know if there is similar blurring with gynocentric and androcentric societies. I'd also like to know if the idea of ancient gynocentric societies that were overcome, like the idea that agriculture was naturally preferred, is an invention in apology for the researchers' societies.

    • @philosophy_schilling
      @philosophy_schilling 26 дней назад

      I love this: "a symptom of thinking in dichotomies and so hierarchies rather than observing reality" - YES! I concur. Reality when dealing with humans at least, is so much more chaotic and messy and blended/overlapping than our minds of logic would seem to prefer. Wonderful point.
