Not a good review. Every video about the Ural says it's unreliable but, no one says why. So tell me...electrical, mechanical, fuel, abuse, skipping regular maintenance, what?? I know many that have had no problem with their Ural with over 30K miles. Of course, they don't do stupid shit on the bike either. Modelled after the 1938 BMW R-71. These 85 year old designed bikes require constant maintenance. Filters, greasing, oil changes, adjustments, etc. These were designed for men in combat who were self reliant. Carrying men, heavy loads and towing small trailers/canon were the Military requirements. Not comfort. These are not bikes that after 5-7 years are discontinued. No other bike has lasted the test of time than the Ural.

We have a 2013 Gear Up, it has 34,500 km on it we do the service required regularly, ride the bike as it is meant to ridden, our bikes sweet spot for speed is 55 mph. We have met so many people because of this machine, and our dog loves it. One change we made was going to a 2 spring Harley cop seat, it makes the ride much better and easier on my back.

I have a 2014 Gear up, I live in the mountains of PA and so far it has been a blast. Mine likes 55-65 mph, I use the speedometer on my GPS because the motorcycle speedo is horribly inaccurate. The key to loose or muddy terrain is a little more speed. I can get a campstove, sleeping bag, sleep mat, and dishes in the trunk, leaving the sidecar open for a passenger or my pup. I have been on two wheeled bikes for 40 years, I bought the Ural for camping and grandkids. I have owned it less than a year but I believe it is a keeper. I am too impatient to ride on a very long trip at 60 mph so I will trailer for longer trips. So far I love it. Not being able to run 75 or 80 for sustained periods is the only drawback to the Ural for me. I have heard rumors about a larger displacement engine and a 5 speed gearbox, that would probably be enough of a reason for me to trade up.

I am a proud and happy owner of a 2018 Classic Retro - which is basicly a CT made to look like the original M72 from WWII. As mentioned by other Ural owners: ride it within its limits and do your regular maintenance and it wont let you down. One thing to be clear about is that it really is a 1940'st o 1960's vehicle at its core, made for 1940's to 1960s traffic. So be prepared to just travel at an average of 10 to 20 % less speed than you are used to. Although my Ural can get up to almost 130 kph if need be, the best speed on motorways is that of the lorries - so 95 kph give or take since you only have 4 gears anyway. If you have to climb up a mountain road with about a 5 to 8% angle, you can switch back a gear and keep 75 kph in third gear or switch to second and go 40 kph if it gets really steep - just remember that your engine is air cooled. Let yourself be overtaken or just learn to occassionally go aside to let the impatient people pass rather than constantly revv the engine up to 4000rpm for hours in the summer heat as I once foolishly did on one of my first travels. One interresting thing though is that often - although I've been dragging a bunch of tailgaiters behind me for a while on my mountain climb with my wife and all the luggage - they still don't seem to be in a hurry when I give way to let them pass. Instead they rather take their time while overtaking just to have a last look at my ride. Almost as if they regret that they now have to move on and leave me behind. 🙂 When you go downhill keep in mind that the quirky braking habits require you to a) break early and carefully and b) use the rear brake more than you might be used to. This leads me to two important safety issues regarding this type of bike: be careful with your brakes in downhill right hand turns - especially descending mountain passes. The tendency to vere left while braking combined with the downward slanted angle of most mountain roads means that you could be carried into oncomming traffic or even beyond the road itself if you misjudge the situation and break too hard. Especially since your normal reaction to a dangerous situation would be to break even harder, which only adds to the problem. It sure surprised me on my first rides. Luckily it was a familiarisation ride late in the evening at an scarcely frequented road so I learned about this vice before it would surprise me while meeting oncomming traffic on this narrow road. The other thing is that plunging your sidecar into the ground (thus lifting the rear wheel of the bike) is by far the most dangerous move since once that is established, it just takes very little before the sidecar flips over. Most lethal accidents that occur with sidecars are due to this. Luckily, one has to yank very hard to the left in order to acchieve that and in most instances of impropper left side steering you would rather make your frontwheel slip sideways rather than putting your sidecar on its nose. But once that happens, there is a big risk, especially for the passenger in the sidecar, to get trapped and crushed by the weight of the bike. Lifting (flying) the sidecar on right hand turns is achieved quite easily and I would advise everyone to at least try that on a parking field a few times to get a feel for it as that situation (unlike the other) is relatively easily controlable and helps the rider getting used to the physics of sidecar riding. ah: still one last thing to add: if you climb a mountain pass that exceeds 2000 meters in altitude, be sure to carry an oxygen mask with you - not for yourself, but for the Ural! Although its named by a famous russian mountain range, it's actually a bike made for the russian tundra. Up to 1900 meters is usually fine, but above that you quickly might find yourself giving full throttle but not exeeding 40 kph in second gear - as once happened to me crossing the summit of the Bernina pass at 2400 m altitude. 😅

On feb,2022 I bought a URAL Gear-Up and since that day I am happy. In the meantime I drove 30.000 km all over Europe on the TET. The TET is a Trans Europe Trail with 50.000 km offroad trails. And my grandkids love it to be with me on tour

Ok on country roads. I have ridden a 2020 ural on my share of highways. 70 mph is ssscreaming and unsustainable. It’s happy at 50/55. Brakes are light and it’s heavy. It’s also a lot of fun, but let’s remember what we have here.

Once you go hack, you’ll never go back. My ‘12 GU continues to trundle along without issue. 20,000 kilometers and counting. Do regular servicing, ride the bike within its design parameters, and a Ural 7:29 will last and last and last.

I've been a fan of URALS ever since my kids were little and I pulled up next to one at a gas station. The first time I caused somebody else to have UDF... I kept the poor guy talking for 20 minutes. I've seen hundreds of YT videos, test drove them at dealers, go to URAL Demo Days at 2 different dealers. They're impractical, mechanically unreliable (although they're a hell of a lot better than they used to be) and I've have been reading folks on Soviet Steed call them RPOCs for decades. But, heaven help me, I LOVE the damn things. I even have a drawer full of URAL T-shirts and a set of URAL coasters. So why don't I have a URAL? Because, cc for cc, they're the most overpriced motorcycles in the world! I went to the local URAL demo day a couple months ago. New Gear-Ups, after accessories (and ALL dealers throw on a crapload of add-ons) are north of 30 grand. In some cases, way north. For a 750 cc bike you can't take on the freeway and requires 92 octane fuel. If I were wealthy and just wanted a new toy, I'd go for it. But I'm not. Even the used ones are off-the-wall expensive. My local dealer had a 12-year old Patrol that he wanted more than 10 grand for! So I watch YT videos and drool... 😭

Yes Agree with all pro-cons. I have a2004 Ural Troyka. Been a blast to drive totally different from a regular M/C. Mine is in the middle of prehistoric Ural compared to your Ural of the future. Have disc brakes on front to drums on rear and sidecar. Spare tire/wheel only fits rear and sidecar. The Russian ignition failed several years ago. Now its a Ducati / Ural, lol But it's been fun. If you don't like people talking to you and approaching you about the bike.......Dont buy one lol

I have the identical gun and scope and my groups were no better than 3” at 15 yards using the Crosman premier pointed pellets. I switched to the Gamo Tomahawk and group size went down to 2”, but still not good enough. I’m shooting from a bench rest and really concentrating on trigger squeeze. I also changed the screw on the trigger second stage and it was a big improvement. The trigger pull is way too heavy on the original configuration. Anyone have a preferred brand of pellets?

Breakbarrels are very hold sensitive, most of them do not like to be held tightly and tight against the shoulder also try different weight pellets . I suggest you watch you tube video of other people who have the same gun and see which pellet was the most accurate.
