Didn’t realize how long the Webb’s had been fucking Lexington over lol
My uncle too, thank you for this beautiful tribute!
My uncle
Well, of course the traffic DID NOT improve. Governmental bureaucracy 😢
1953…..not 1963 Ryan.
Unbelievable! Between Wilkinson and the Webb brothers, downtown was left pretty much bankrupt!
Lexington roads are a complete mess, or even better, a complete joke 😂
do you have digital copies of your full tapes anywhere? i love this stuff since i grew up in richmond. these are so nostalgic to watch!
What is not shown is the protesters at Bluegrass Airport and along Versailles Rd adamantly opposed to NAFTA .
Thanks for posting. I’m standing behind Clinton too.
He said it best, for those who traveled down that glory road with me my eternal thanks! Enough said!!!!
❤the best
We turned the radio up and the tv volume down and hoped for close synchronization of the two. RIP Mr Ledford.
This was about 1 month before I was born. Single digit temperatures all the way down to the Gulf Coast!
The memorial service that they mentioned for Cawood had to be postponed as a result of the 9/11 attacks that happened six days later.
Me behind the President in my Heyday
WRAL-TV used the same jingle.
It was pretty unusual to have four live shots in a single block in 2002. I guess you were using all 3 ENG trucks and the satellite truck?
She was before my time so I never watched her but I heard of her death today and wanted to see what I could find. I was amazed reading her accomplishments. What an amazing woman she was.
As a kid growing up in Kentucky Cawood was bigger than life. He got to sit Courtside, riggt next to the KATS!!!! THE VOICE OF YOUR KENTUCKY WILDCATS RADIO STATIONS!!!!!! Told it how it was! If Kentucky was playing bad, he would tell you Kentucky was playing bad. Never pulled no punches. What I remember most, was how he could call the game, and it was like you where in the stands watching it live. Never b forgotten in Kentucky!!!!! I tell my grand kids bout cawood. Best 🏀 announcer eve!!!!!
Caywood Ledford began broadcasting Kentucky Wildcat basketball games in 1953 - not '63. Don't know how the reporter in a pre-recorded segment, could make such a mistake.
Ruined Lexington
😢😢 sorry for your loss he is going to r.i.p office Ellis is going to be miss he was a good friend and office and Daddy and a good man and we will see him again
I remember Bob Hale!
Mindy Shannon: By 2000, Lexington will grow by 30%. Toyota: Hold my beer.
Mike I was hoping you could help me. My husband was killed in 2006. He was a coal miner in Brethitt co, Ky. He worked for Miller Brothers Coal. He and I were 23 and our daughter was almost 3 when he was killed. I remember speaking to one of the tv stations and a lawsuit was filed. I’ve found newspaper articles but have never found any videos of the case. Where should I look?
Also,do you have anymore news coverage from this day?
Everything I personally saved is on my RUclips channel. The station may have more.
Do you have any footage from December 23rd-25th of 2009. Looking for footage of when my grandfather Rev Roger Barkley Sr was killed in a crash on December 22nd
I watch mike brooks on his RUclips channel monkey wrench mike
Where is Dr Dwayne Harding at now? He lived in my neighborhood as a kid in Richmond before moving away to take a job in Baltimore I think.
YOUR TV'S WILL GO BLACK APRIL 03rd 1974 SUPEROUTBREAK AND A PLACE FOR US WHICH IS A SONG PLAYING IN MY HEAD ON MAY 28th 1996 DURING A BAD TORNADO WARNING!!!!
THIS WAS WORST THEN APRIL 03rd 1974!!!!
Hey Mike, great clips! Is it possible to access the full clip of the piece on reference librarians that starts around 7.37? ruclips.net/video/zTf4UE25SgU/видео.html
10:23 Wait another ten years
I’d love to know if WLEX tried to get a VHF allocation what channel it would be. Cool to see this.
You wouldn't happen to have any ABC Contemporary Network newscasts from this station, would you?
Mike... if you're still around RUclips to see this... had no idea this promo made it to RUclips. Had some laughs watching our old days at WLEX. I'm in New York, working as a writer/editior/fill-in producer in the NewsEdge division for affiliate content at Fox News here in Manhattan. Never dreamed I'd come back to the business decades later... but it's paid better than ministry! Hope you're well, let me know how you're doing.
Time machine!
This sucked.
There are those that opposed it, and there were those who encouraged it. 40 years later, Lexington has grown tremendously, and continues to grow - and so do the cost.
So much hair. ;)
Awesome look back! Webb has been a chode for a long time, turns out!

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
9:08 really there’s NO EXCUSE why they couldn’t complete NCRd as an Limited-access “freeway”! Especially back in the 50/60s when the government was paying 90% of the cost?? 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Do you have footage of NBC Nightly News from November 3, 1998?
That's my grand mother Mildred McCullough at 9 mins 42 seconds she fought with the city for many years for the city pushing people out of the neighborhood my family came from back 5 generations and after she passed away about 8 years later is when the city started the Newtown extension and it's been nothing but trouble for the small neighborhood along Manchester street
