HOW TO CATCH FISH on the BEACH - SURF FISHING PADRE ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE in SOUTH TEXAS
Weather got right for a couple days so we made a day trip down to PINS one of the most remote beaches on the Gulf of Mexico shores. Water was crystal clear! Trout bite was on fire and managed to catch a little bonus fish later in the Day. Another successful surf fishing trip!!

That time of the year for the Family Beach Trip. This year we were blessed with calm winds but an updwelling really made the surf a challenging place to fish. Threw live bait in the brown murky water and we were able to catch some good trout and redfish. August and September are right around the corner and we will be hitting the BEACH hard!! FISHING TEXAS BEACHES - HUGE fish feeding FRENZY!! - EP. 3 - DRAFT WEEKEND - PINS
You keep go to the left n there's nothing You catch a small trout n you can't stop cussing YOUR PATHETIC GTFOH DONT QUIT YOUR DAY JOB
Do you look for certain places before you stop to fish?
So down on PINS 1st thing I look for is deeper first gut right off the beach. 2nd thing is a point or a pinch (Horseshoe gut) creates more current pulling bait fish to the predator fish. 3rd is bait (but I’ve pulled up to spots that looked good couldn’t see bait and caught fish there). Drains on the beach are typically good spots to fish around as well. In the early morning these structure features can be tough to identify but if you stop and watch the waves for a bit you will notice some break differently than others and you can tell where the deeper cuts are through the sandbars. I’m normally not stationary. When you pull up to a spot and catch a few trout real quick and then it stops move down the beach a little they are smart you have to follow them.
Also if tide is falling fish will be on backsides of sandbars. If it’s rising they will be on front sides. Predatory Species use the currents to set up and ambush. Hope this info helps! Good luck!
Noice fish😮
Ok. Thanks for the reply and equipment tips!
Blacktips
Monster!
Tre needs an 8’ Kardiac custom rod!
@@KardiacOutdoors would have been nice if I had one that day because I got half my line tore off and broke right before he got slammed lol but I have one now so that’s what matters
Your rod guides don't look like they are lined up?
On my bigger custom surf rod "The Beach Bomber" with the camo handle they aren't. It's called an "acid wrap" got Kardiac Custom Rods down in Flour Bluff to make it for me. Specialized to add more strength but keep rod an action light so I can use it to throwbigger top water but not lose ability to fight bigger fish as I have been broke off by monsters that I couldnt land with my lighter tackle.
Are you interested in a collaboration the next time you are down?
IM ALWAYS INTERESTED TO RIP LIPS
When was this filmed?
Was Early June. Have not been back down since the high tides from Tropical Storm Alberto. Tides were up to the high road lots of Debris and Trees
Intro made me sub but good ass video💪🏾
Thanks Brotha! Will have some more videos from this summer as long as the Hurricanes stay away
Dang ive never seen the water that clear there. good stuff bro!
Nice catch, how far down do you need to go? Never been…
I normally drive down the beach 15-20miles then work my way back depending on driving conditions but you can catch them anywhere you can find good movement in the sandbars. Deeper first guys right off the beach start around 11-12. Start really getting away from people around 10. 4x4 is recommended but there are days you don’t need it. If you go past 22-23miles you will need it for sure
Right on, thanks for the info and keep up the great videos. Tight lines buddy!
Too much cussing can't have my kids watching this.
Sorry get to excited sometimes. Try and cut most of it it out. Don't show them my video. Take them out and let them see it through their eyes!! Take them to the beach easiest place to fish early morning when the fish are up shallow! Good Luck!
i lost three big fish yesterday 6-3 wind was bad couldnt take my kayak out
Hell yeah! Forecast for this weekend is looking real good. Hopefully it holds up so I can run down and hammer them on topwaters!
@@scalesntrails im heading back friday
How long does beach season last in TX? I'm heading to Galveston in July.
Typically runs through late April-early May until mid September when the water begins to cool down! July and August are great months but as it gets hotter the time window in the AM for fish to be shallow will begin to shorten so get out there early!
@@scalesntrails Thanks! I've enjoyed watching the video btw.
Jesus loves you. Nice video man
No Doubt!! Thanks
Great job man!
When was this? What mile marker? Can I have some croaker?
Delete this right now.
Bout damn time you uploaded this! Reminding me how much I suck at soakin croaker
Definitely sandbagged it lol gave you a solid shoutout and screen time doe!!
Democrat city boy. Or a nonbinary liberal 🙄. Probably watches CNN all day long and drives a prius. Really pisses me off these woke fools trying to ruin the sport of fishing for us country folk. We need Trump back
Wht area were you fishing. In Rockport
Was Actually North of Rockport Mesquite Bay, St. Charles Bay
where did you get that gray rod? how was it! looks excellent!
I had it built by @KardiacOutdoors He specializes in surf and jetty rods. Had it designed to throw a 2 & 3oz spoon, swimbaits and big top waters and plugs. 8' medium heavy with a fast tip. the eyes are acid wrapped to make the rod a little lighter but not lose strength. Hit him up he does great work!
And thats why u never get over waist deep thats butthole check time when u cant touch bottom..
Nice video bud! How long ago was this video made? I work in Ingleside. I’ve been wanting to go fish the surf. The winds haven’t been too bad lately. Might go Saturday or Sunday after work. Keep up the good work bro. 🤙
This was actually a few days before the tropical storm. Went back a few days after the storm (future video) was on fire water really cleaned up. Went this morning and caught a bunch again just nothing big! This weekend is a great weekend for it water was clean this morning
I foul hooked a 5-6 foot stingray on a medium/light trout rod in the surf a couple weekends ago. I was thinking the same thing as you that it was a huge red or black drum, then it started sticking to the bottom and I couldn't budge it lol. Fun fight but wasted me about 25 or 30 minutes lol
Haha man I was so pumped then saw it and was like damn that sucks lol took me about same amount of time! Supposed to have good water this weekend on the beach!
Nice fishing OG...I need to make my way down there ...from Victoria Here.
Have been down there since Thursday just got back today. Water cleaned up a little was pristine this morning. Caught a bunch new video will be posted soon
This took off! May start listening to you for once....
Enjoyed the video. Subscribed to your channel. Keep it coming !
Thanks for posting, your video got me pumped for our upcoming trip to Port A. First time fishing as an adult and have a whole week right off the beach to figure it out.
Thats what its all about!! Figuring it out! What makes us keep coming back for more! Good Luck!
i`m assuming u were free lining croaker what it looked like....
Had a barrel weight on it to get it a little further out there on the cast and to keep the smaller ones from getting pulled in the current so fast. Small adjustments like that make a big difference sometimes.
Great video, great music. Had to hit that upvote and subscribed. Keep up the good work
Thanks Brotha!
Do you do guides? Looked like you were near Seagull condos and I’ll be there next week.
Yes those 2 big towers are the Sandpiper and seagull condos. Around marker 93 I think it is (just north of Towers) There is always a pretty good drain off the beach which means there is a cut in one of the sandbars somewhere nearby which creates stronger currents. Predatory fish use those currents to feed as smaller bait fish get pulled through. If tide is falling fish will position on the back side of sand bar. If tide is rising they will typically be on the front side of the bar. Thats also near the center of beach access 1 and 2 so less people on the beach. If water is clear you can throw lures/spoons/topwaters if its dirty live bait is almost a must. Caught fish right in front of towers with people all around mid day. Right in between the 2 towers there is a spot where the green water would slide into the 2nd gut midday everyday we were there. You set up in front of that with some croaker I'm willing to bet you catch some fish. Croaker works best especially bigger ones. No I don't do any guided trips just an avid beach angler this time of the year. More than happy to share what I know. Let me know how you do!
Also if you do get croaker a few tips to keep them alive. Use the bait shop water the croaker came from. Bubblers work for a little bit but eventually they will need oxygen. I have the oxygen tank on top of the cooler so I can keep them alive for days. dont stick your hand in water after applying sunscreen use net. will kill them all. If you dont have oxygen the next best thing is to walk out a little deeper with a bucket and get them some fresh water from time to time. without the oxygen tank and larger ice chest I would not get more than 1-2 dozen at a time.
dont leave direct sunlight water temp will also kill them. very sensitive bait fish
Hey brother, I’m going on a work trip to Corpus Christi and I wanna do some surf fishing. Probably gonna be throwing lures. Would you recommend I use a steel leader ? Or will my line be fine
It really depends on the water. if Its cleaned up I always use Flouro so the fish cant see it as well. This time of the year fish with teeth begin to show in the surf. Would definitely take some light steel leader with you maybe 20-30lb just in case. I was using 30lb flouro tied with a Alberto knot to the 20lb braid. I caught a 30" blacktip that I didnt get on camera and landed it no problem. Have another video of a feeding frenzy where I really wish I had steel leader tied on that day lol
Nice fish were you using a lure or live bait
This time live bait. Water was brown low visibility live bait is almost a must in conditions like that. My preferred tactic would be a top water. Works great with clean water.
@@scalesntrails thanks for the advice I'll try some live bait love fishing from the beach
What date were you guys fishing?
JULY 18TH-22ND
right on
nice vid man!
Great job 👍 new sub here tight lines
Thanks Man! Wish the wind would lay and surf would clean up to get some topwater action for some big trout. This Friday and Saturday winds looking good! Tight Lines Brotha!
Yeah this one got me hyped up!
Rockport was one of my favorite places to fish for decades. I miss it sometimes.
Havnt fished that area in years. Always nice fishing different waters from time to time.
We should collaborate one of these days, I’ll teach you how to catch the big fish.
Most under rated channel on youtube. Nice work brother thanks for all the info
I'm a Corky Nut! If there's a Spec in the water, they'll smoke it. We hit West Bay Galveston this morning. Super clear & full of Bait. Limited out on Tournament Reds this morning.. 2 Man limit in 15min. Then headed back home.
Nothing better than the THUMP!!
How deep was that area, looks you had a Corky Floater on and waiting for it to sink?
Most of the water we fished that day was thigh to waist deep. Was throwing a variety of fatboy custom corkies early. Switched to the floater when I got a little shallower with more grass. Id let it sink for 5seconds or so, work it like a top water for a few seconds, then pause for 4-5seconds. They would thump it on the first twitch after the pause every time. Rod tip 12 to 6. Makes all the difference. If you are getting grass on the hooks that means you are doing it right. - TIGHT LINES!
Good stuff
You were swimming with sharks. Probably blacktips and spinners everywhere in that.
About the 3rd time we got out you had bait hitting you in the legs trying to get to the shallows and it crossed my mind that there was probably sharks in the chaos as well. Right about that time I had a 3-4’ black tip come right in front of me. Lol was Awesome! I’ve seen some bigger ones cruise in front of me in the past but none feeding like that so close to the beach
