I just tried the process on a VM, and resized my root volume group, as long as you make all the partition changes before you use the w command in fdisk, you won’t lose any data. Just make sure you delete the partition in fdisk, and then immediately create the new partition with the same starting block, and the new extended block, then use w to write the changes, and reboot.
