1985 SAR Kenworth WB Hunter
1985 Australian-Built Kenworth SAR, powered by a 400 Cummins, 13-speed RR, riding on Torsion bar suspension. I don't remember the diff ratio but I can tell you it was one quick truck. Out of all my working career in transport, this was one of my favorite trucks to drive. I mainly did local work in Melbourne and country Victoria with a trip to South Australia and on occasion, Sydney NSW. I did mostly general freight which meant I was often swapping trailers.
Here I am arriving at a premises in Laverton's industrial area, then we head to Hunter's Melbourne depot on the corner of Holmwood and Somerville Road, West Footscray.
We then head to Salta Drive and pick up a load of packaged beer from...

    I’m just wondering is that milk in the crates? Also why use a curtain side trailer? No fridge motor either. I’m guessing it had to be loaded on a dock from the rear at the dairy or manufacturer. Seems like a lot of extra work for nothing!

    • @raygrimaoldschooltrucking3100
      @raygrimaoldschooltrucking3100 22 дня назад

      Yes it is milk in those crates , the reason why it was loaded in a curtain side trailer was because I was going to get a load of general freight from our Melbourne depot . The milk was loaded from a rear loading dock and the reason for not having a fridge motor on this trip was that it was a cold miserable cold morning in Shepparton when loaded and going to cold and wet Ballarat in the Winter time. Also the milk was not for human consumption.

    1956 model, WA & in my last few days. I was there, & I remember. I remember all of it. Back in the mid/late 70s I had a White 9000, GM, I think it was a 471. Started with a Bedford J petrol at 14, carting wool bales. Slept in a swag under the trailer. My last was the KW T904 Cat C16 on 6 rod. Mostly pulling triple flat tops out to the mines, mostly East Pilbara, bit of other stuff. Thank you for this upload, I only stumbled on it by chance. What have the bastards done to our country?

    Semi trucks are normally tough but they cant protect the driver and other motorist around them from injury or death all the time. That's why truckers do a pretrip inspection of their trucks. Everyone is responsible for their own actions even when driving.

    I’m just wondering if that’s the same Autocar I had a steer of at the Windarra open cut nickel mine in WA back in about 1977. I believe Thiess were the Autocar importers, and they had a brand new one at the mine painted yellow. It had a 8V71T and 13 speed Roadranger. The air cleaners were angled forward like in the video and it had a chrome plated Luberfiner on one side and chrome plated power steering reservoir on the other side, just like in the video. It went from the mine to a customer. I’ve got a photo of it at the mine. They didn’t bring many into Australia.
