Grandma's Cookbook - Crazy Chocolate Squares
LOL, looks delish
Nish Census again
Thank you for this recipe, i gave you your 2nd 👍
This was my absolute favorite desert when I was a kid. My mom made it with pecans, and we often had it with butter pecan ice cream. Man, that brings back some great memories.
I can see you must be a joy to be with.
I had to laugh listening to HobbyFist struggling with the pronunciation of Brer, and he never did get it right. It's an old Southern term and was used in an old Disney movie "Song of the South". It is properly said as Brear or bear with an extra r. The original recipe from B'rer Rabbit molasses used hot water I think. I will be looking it up soon to make for Thanksgiving. I think the molasses company has changed the recipe from the one my Mom made.
I know this recipe was from two years ago but I wanted to thank you for sharing it with us. I’ll be trying this today😋
After mixing everything, my batter was a little thick like yours in your video but it came out delish. Ovens vary so I had to leave mine for an extra 10 minutes. Thanks so very much for this gift 🙏🏽
Guys you will fall in love with these lol lol. You don’t know lol
Thank you. Just loved biting down on my first bite of French breakfast puffs my mom had just made. Betty Crocker my fav cook book lol. ♥️♥️🇨🇦
My mom makes this but she uses pecans and fills the crust with a pudding & whipped cream mix.
This looks really yummy. I'm going to have to give this a try. Yes I've seem coconut in a few recipes I've looked at.
Love ur honesty
thats interesting how it makrs its own crust as it bakes. or didni miss somethig?
Hands down best recipe video i have ever seen. Full recipe at the start. Right away. Now we are cooking. Cook it until it looks like this If you dont have this just use what you got. No worries. Honest assesment and no expectations from us at the end. This is what top tier instructional videos look like. Its like, this is the energy a normal person is bringing to wednesdays hamburger macaroni casserole night. Everything always tastes better between bread.
You over crushed the crackers and the entire pie is topped with whipping cream
You've go to put whipped cream on it (must be whipped cream and not cool whip or ready-whip, they won't work) spread a thick layer of cream over the top of the whole pie. Then refrigerate it for at least 8 hours. The cream will soak into the pie, turning the center into soft filling-like consistency, but the crust will stay firm on the bottom. This makes the pie seem like is has three layers, a bottom crust, a filling and the cream layer on top. Then put chocolate shaving on top. This is the way my grandma always made it and it taste like Heaven. It is my favorite dessert of all time.
White Majority States are So Beautiful.
This looked really good! Thank you for sharing!
All you need for custards are 2 eggs max. If you had added nutmeg, particularly, and a little cinnamon you might have come off much better. And you needed some butter for taste and non-stick. When you bake custards like these, you need to stir every so often so that your pudding doesn't come out looking like a spotted *WELCOME* mat. I've thoroughly enjoyed a delicious Grapenut pudding several times in New England.
Sadly, and I have experienced this myself, it might have been gummy due to over-mixing.
You cooked it wrong you have to put it in a pan with a water bath
Can I use canned apples
where is mamma Gina?
If it's so shitty, why bother?
This is a fabulous dessert, traditionally uses chopped pecans, not walnuts. And topped with whipped cream which you put on a few hours before serving so it makes the pie moister.
Perfect response. This is how my granny made it and she always recommended putting the whipped cream on at least several hours before serving. A quote from my granny's cookbook, "This is the recipe I'd like to take with me, in case God lets me cook."
Looks delicious 🤤
Glad you shared what you question about your technique - a learning experience for us all. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! September and beginning of October have been...interesting but it seems to be clearing up. Hope to get something up in a few weeks.
Cindy thank you for sharing enjoy your weekend
Thank you! You too!
Thank you for sharing these amazing recipes, just made it, it’s smells heavenly, We don’t buy snacks from stores, so I always try to find some grandmas old fashioned recipes to make, my kids will appreciate you :))
Glad you like them!
What kind of oats do you use?
It did not say in the recipe so I just went that Quaker oatmeal cylinder tube kind.
@@hobbyfist4655 thank you
This recipe was published many many years ago.
Yeah if I remember when looking this up apparently this was a thing first ladies used to do. But I could be misremembering that now. Comparing this with the other fudge i tried making this was definitely easier to accomplish.
I love that you have your Grandmother's handwritten recipe! This looked like the least gooey & simple cake. Great job!!
Yeah, going through this there are quite a number of apple and walnut cakes, she was quite the fan of that combo.
Old Fashioned Oats or Quick Oats ?!
The recipe did not specify so I went with that I had which was that cylinder tube Quaker instant oatmeal oats.
Maybe instead of sprinkling the coconut on top you could actually mix it in ?! I only just recently started learning to cook and cooking myself ..so.. I'm definitely not an expert.. lol
It's been a minute since I made this but I think I might have tried in both attempts, its just a real funky combo thats maybe an acquired taste.
I wish I had my grandmother's cook book.. I'm watching a marathon of your cooking videos.. I'm probably gonna try out a couple of these recipes.. so.. thanks for sharing
Thanks, There is a very large amount of index cards still to go through once this book is done. I just need that graphics card which I am still waiting to be delivered to me to arrive. I am hoping it is soon, looking forward to making more of these.
Hmm.. this does look delicious.. that was a strong southern pronunciation of PUDDIN' at the start of the video.. lol
It's a fun word.
This recipe looks really delicious.
Flavor was good, just super dry, id advise putting in the fridge like I did.
@@hobbyfist4655 Hi. You probably didn't see the comment before I edited it. I made it with 'normal' coffee, prepared with the milk in the recipe (means less dry ingredients) and it absolutely had the taste of that coffee-cake my granny used to make. 👍
"Cursive deficient" 😂 Brilliant!
Its a combo of that and not so great scan copy. Wow I take a bit of a break and these seemed to have got some views. I got some good news for PC parts and I should at least have the final piece shipping by August and then barring anything happening between now and then I should be back making some more of these.
Your so funny...I haven't laughed before while watching a recipe on youtube, LOL 🤣🤣🤣...and yes am gonna try your recipe...except I'll half it and that will cut the calories in half 😉
If I was to make this again I would cut in half at least as well. Took me forever to pawn them off on friends. Thanks for stopping by, I should be back soon with more from the cookbook!
It’s in the oven now . 😊 This recipe was popular with my grandmas mom ,from Poland./ Ukrainian . So it’s definitely an old recipe. I believe she put 5 eggs in but 4 is plenty. It’s a heavy dough,so it’s going to be good . Thanks for sharing. ❤️🇨🇦
It definitely was a dense slice, there are quite a few more recipes left to go and I should be starting up again soon so stay tuned!
Ok thank you so much! ❤️🇨🇦
Buoni
Verygood 😀
Thank you! Cheers!
My favorite
Wow I did not expect this one to get so popular compared to the other videos I have made, thanks for stopping by. I should be back soon with some more recipes!
@@hobbyfist4655 thanks
15:30 i found this channel when i was binge watching random Geoguessr videos. I was going from video to video, channel to channel and i found this channel. And i stuck around both thanks to that soothing monotone voice and the overall relaxing feeling of your videos wich was a nice change of pace from the other channels i watch and/or watched
Well, farwell Geoguessr... you will be missed. I look forward to see what the next big series is going to be
Thanks for the kind words and all the facts you dropped in the episodes, was always a highlight for me reading those. Until we meet again.
Dont vorry about it, dude! I’m just glad that your back and doing alright. Some people need a bit of time to recouperate (i dont know how to spell that word) after getting the vaccin so it’s completely understandable that you took a break
When you run out of titles for your episodes😄
This sounds yummy- like the concept of this playlist 😄😄
Thank you, there are quite a few more to go, and with the new PC parts coming soon I should be back up soon with more from the cookbook!
Haven’t had an oatmeal pie in years- yum
I love tomato soup cake- vintage recipes are the best!!!!
