What size is the bolts on them please
Did you have any symptoms that made you change it?
No symptoms mate. Just went and checked it after reading online about common issue.
Thanks mate 👍 had mine done under recall not convinced it was done
@@OMBR8 oh ok. Think recall in uk is to check and replace only if needed. I know some people had issue with dealers claiming it’s fine and they left it.
What did you do? Cut out the mufflers?
Modified original backbox.
@@neo61uk how Mate? sounds brilliant
Neosbeemers magic 🥱😉😉
@@neo61uk shame its such a secret to share, What Im asking is, did you open up the second valve permanently or did you cut open the backbox and done works in it ?
It’s not a secret mate. It’s a mod. I learned and performed it now on many cars. Not sure how could I explain it. I cut it open and modify backbox internally then weld it back.
that is diesel?
My man,has this mod done anything to your fuel economy? Also, did you have the stock restricted downpipe when you missed the back box?
No fuel economy difference mate. This one had opf filter I believe. Not sure now. We can do backbox and one res delete on any and those before opf we can do two res delete. Mint sound and all legal and no fuel diference.
@@neo61uk how much do you charge for back box mod and where are you based?

do you offer the backbox mod as a service? if so how much??

Broo pls can you give me the pipe name you bought?? I can’t find it on ebay

Normal
@@neo61uk thanks for fast answering
Could u send a link for the exhaust please ?
Spoke to this fella on Facebook about having my 1 series done, very informative and responsive with messages. And looking at his work he's a beemer magician 👍 I bet he's rushed off his feet with jobs.
Very nice !
very good video - thanks for showing all the stages, keep up the good work
hi i want to do this to my 435i , did you take all the sound deadening out of this ? and the valve system plug was taken out ?
All sound deadening can be removed yes , perforations on left and right chambers blanked , leave the middle section. Valve was left in place just unplugged so it remain open and can be plugged back anytime for longer runs.
@@neo61uk oh so you take the corners mufflers out and leave the middle ? that saves the whole drone thing right ? i have a res delete atm it’s done nothing been looking online backbox delete sounds amazing but i’m hearing it drones but i don’t mind if it isn’t crazy … is there any more vids of this mod done but on throttle or flyby ?
@@marnzx1206 I don’t have more videos mate as all this done for customers. I only modify left and right side. Used to modify middle section too but marginal gain and drone. So if you leave middle section it won’t drone and it sounds amazing. Left side perforation must be blanked mind. It’s quite a big section.
@@neo61uk oh sweeeeet bro i thought this a hobby or something , so this a service you offer ? where are you based , that sound is perfect man , so left and right gets taken out and middle section stays ? what’s ur opinion on backbox delete , i wana have presence but i don’t wana be ugly
@@marnzx1206 nah mate. I don’t recommend Backbox delete as it sounds cheap. With this mod we gain PE sound and not a cheap drony noise. Would never recommend Backbox delete. It never sounds right. You need anti drone section there. And yes look for Neo’s Beemers on FB or Insta
Any rasp ?
Hey , i have a 116i , does 135i rear muffler fit on stock 116i exhaust ?
No mate. It’s not straight swap. Pipe diameter is 80mm on m135i and yours is around 50-60mm(not sure exactly). You need pipe reducer to fit. Backbox fittings are same.
I've found your video rather useful. Where did you source your drive shaft from? I'm looking at getting an LCI E70 and would rather just find the part and get my local garage to fit it rather than deal with BMW. Been loitering on all the forums to see the horror stories, so it makes sense to do a precautionary replacement even if the quality enhancement was sanctioned for an inspection.
I got mine from those guys. desshelleyshafts.com/
EBay easy got mine from there
Hi there, did you remove anything else to get the shaft out of the car? Thanks
No , maybe some covers that’s all.
@@neo61uk thanks for the reply. Looks like theres not enough room to move 4 bolt flange up or down to pull spline out of transfer case. I will have a go tomorrow
@@MR33 defo is mate. Just play about. Think you must drop other end first. Don’t remember now as done couple years ago now.
@@neo61uk other end is the spline into transfer case so that cant move. Have to move 4 bolt flange and then slide towards front of car. But i gave up early when it didnt really want to budge lol. On a f85, same 4 bolt shaft as whats in this video though.
Hi new so you have the video after installing new one? I’ve similar problems in my x6 f16 (2018) but not sure if it’s under normal tolerance.. I’ve even a video to share..
No mate. Don’t have video after it was done. There is small margin for play there but nothing significant mate. After I fitted brand new one it was nice tight and solid.

@@joseignaciob.4548 ruclips.net/user/shortstJKBHao5gA4 this youtube video shows my new shaft. Could you advice, please.
Have you deleted the secondary resonator since doing these mods?
I did delete both if needed on cars pre PPF.
Any drone in eco mode? Cause I do like coasting but I’ve heard it’s worst driving mode for drone.
PE mod sounds so much better 👌
Does a back box mod as opposed to a res delete give a deeper tone?
hi, what is the diameter of the pipe that you use for the little resonator ?
Stock exhaust is 80mm ,
All these diesels nowadays sounding like shitty fake wannabe-V8s, sorry.
🤣🤣 Dreamer
Keen to know if you had this installed from factory or if it was a retrofit? If retrofit - can you give some guidance on what it entailed? I see there is mention of a control unit - did you need to add that extra or can the harness just tie/plug in to the existing amp if you have the hi-fi or HK sound systems?
It’s a genuine bmw part. It’s called m performance active sound exhaust. Fitted by bmw as retrofit and came with additional module to be fitted in a boot.
@@neo61uk Thanks for the feedback. I've found the exhaust but don't think the seller has the module - however I've read that the hi-fi and HK sound systems come with the ASD items supported. So not sure if I have the hi-fi sound system in if I still need the control unit that goes in the boot. Did you have the hi-fi or HK sound system in? Any chance you have a picture of what the set up in the boot under the floor panel looked like after the install? Will help me to understand that I will need :)
@@salt1093 Hi mate. You are confusing the modules. ASD is Active Sound Design. This is the module that make sporty sound inside through the speakers. But you can’t hear nothing outside. All new bmw have this. Even M5. This exhaust is Active Sound Exhaust and comes with additional module fitted in a boot and connected to the exhaust speaker. And it sounds outside not through the speakers.
@@neo61uk So that little round box on the exhaust - there is a speaker in there?! LOL
@@salt1093 yes mate. This is active sound exhaust with special water shock proof speaker to make the sound. It’s designed and invented originally by Audi and is used on every twin turbo Audi car , purpose is to use them for electric cars mate so they can be still sporty and heard , bmw i8 have this too as well as all new electric Porsche and other sport super cars
How much is this?
Please message me via Fb page. @neosbeemers
I want a exhaust for my 118i I don't want it to lound do you recommend back box delete or cat back system
What’s it original pipe size? And the new pipe size once upgrade?
Would you recommend deleting resonator + muffler on this 116i ? Pse address fuel economy issues
It won't fix your fuel economy issues I'm afraid.
@@neo61uk Thanks. For clarity I meant does a res+muffler delete affect fuel consumption adversely? Thanks again
@@carltondouglas4997 no mate it wont affect it, unless you rev it high daily because it sound so good 😜😜
Nice to see a local. I been thinking about removing the res on my 116i. I have a custom back box but that res is holding me back. Is this a service you offer?
Yes I do offer this and much more. Message me on FB @NEOSBEEMERS
@@neo61uk wicked found you and sent a PM
Just about to get this done on mine, could you rate out of 10 what the drone is like? This is the only thing holding me back. Curious to know if the exhaust is still slightly quieter in comfort and eco despite having valve removed. Thanks in advance
Hi mate. I never noticed any drone tbh. If its done right should be no drone. And I always run with valves open. It is just about quieter on comfort as throttle is mapped differently but obviously not much as valve always open.
@@neo61uk Thanks for the reply. oh okay so yours has been mapped too? the shop I'm going to have said the valve control will be removed with the muffler delete so was curios what drone would be like.
@@zinxproductions9335 oh so you are going for muffler delete? I wouldn't mate. It will drone really bad. I don't delete muffler mate. I modify your oem muffler so it sounds like Performance one. But antidrone stay and valve is only unplugged so can be back to working if needed.
Is it OK with MOT this way?
Sure it is. I'm not touching cat converters at all.
@@neo61uk thanks a lot
What is the size (in inches) for the replacement piping?
Stock exhaust size is 80mm. So new resonator delete must be 80mm interior dia.
@@neo61uk Thanks brother
@@carltondouglas4997 sorry mate, missed the bit about inches 🙈🙈
Mad! I was searching for someone and this came up.
U got a guide how to the BB mod?
No guide mate, sorry
@@neo61uk no worries ,,thanks
cut it off replace the internal with straight piping to the exhaust tips and close it back up.
Hi I also have a 116i with the Remus twin tail pipe cat back exhaust system. The exhaust sounds better but I really want to hear some pops, does removing the mid silencer help this?
With your engine, yes any restriction should be removed and yes this will release some pops but more likely on higher revs.
@@neo61uk Is this the N13 engine standard on all 116i's pre-lci (2013?)
Sick!
Hey pal, I'm thinking of get mine done. Does the exhaust drone now?
I can ask my customer and let you know. I would assume in comfort mode with one side flap closed it shouldn't drone.
No drone whatsoever
great diagnosis.
Hi there mate just wondering what backbox was put on this 116i and would u say it is crazy loud or not too bad
Oem m135i backbox was fitted first. It was not loud at all. Barely louder than stock. I had to delete middle silencer and do PE mod on backbox to get where it is now. Sounds great now.
@@neo61uk whats a pe mod ? I’m wanting to put a m135i backbox on my 116i too 😅
@@ryanthomas1882 Performance Exhaust Mod, open up and modify interior.
@@neo61uk I was planning on getting a m135i backbox and then a single resonator delete ? Would that sound nice ?
What exactly is the back box mod?
I remove it, cut open from top, delete the perforations and sound deadening to achieve same effect as MPE.
@@neo61uk got a step by step guide ,pics?
@@neo61uk to be honest this does not sound the same as the m.p.e I would say it's the same loudness but m.p.e is a more deeper sound as the pipes inside the box are bigger.
@@schnookieshullHull I'm modifying stock backbox working in whats in it already to achieve same "effect" internally - not perfectly same sound. I won't be able to make it sound the same. But it's very close to mpe for fraction of the price and still look stock 👌🏻
@@neo61uk You had any difference with exhaust flap on/off after backbox mod? Or flap is not making any difference anymore?
Do you have MPE or standard BB?
MPE fitted already and decided to add some depth to it.
Is that turbo noise ok, or need to repair turbo?
That is perfectly normal engine/turbo sound on 40d model.
definitely no drone on motorway cruising at steady speeds?
Jovan Korica definitely no drone.
What tires? You have size
275 fronts, 315 rears

hi Martin! great sound with the module, no doubt about that. i have the same model (e70 40d lci) and have a different question to you. in the first part of the video (w/o the sound module in action) you can hear a howling noise. i have the same behavior and i’m suspecting the turbo(s) and/or something in the periphery of them. Did you had any issues with the car? Did you ever analyze the origin of the noise? Is it “normal” with your car, i.e. was it always there? I’d appreciate some feedback. 😉 best regards, nenad
Nenad Mihajlovic Hi Mate. Thanks for your comment. This sound you are hearing is perfectly normal and should be there from factory. You dont have to worry about it. Never had a problem with my car and acctually enjoyed that sound as it does sound powerful 😜😜
Hey Martin, thanks for the quick response. This calms me down a little bit. Do you know which component is making this sound? Is it the intake? The intake side should be muffled from what i know. Is it simply put the combination oft the two turbos? Etc. any ideas?
Nenad Mihajlovic Its a twin turbo motor. Turbo will always produce hissing sound of diferent pitch. Also intake on those motors is placed on top of engine and only closed with engine cover. I do enjoy turbo sound on my cars. On evey petrol cars ive had I always open the intake to start hearing things. So I assume intake you have on 40d is not good with sound proofing , and two turbos on top of that is what you hear. Very enjoyable sound to me. Sounds powerfull and if yours sound same as mine then its all good.
Just for the sake of completeness, i’ve recorded a short clip from my car: ruclips.net/video/6lcSmZ90_eQ/видео.html
Ne Mi that sounds perfect mate. 👍🏻👍🏻Stop worrying and start enjoying it. Also if you look under the engine cover(air filter cover) toward the left where you holding your phone- you will notice there is a large cutout in a bottom body to allow some warm engine air into the filter housing. That will casue extra haul noise as well.
Did you only delete the Resonator or even the mid silencer? If i have the mpe and a hjs downpipe so far but rest is stock what would change if i delete the mid silencer/Resonator? Does it really get that much louder? Does it sound more "racy"? And do i get drone or anything like that?
Phil46 Hi mate. Mine was MPE and stock downpipe and yes I have removed just the mid resonator. If you have MPE and catless downpipe already i guess it's loud as is. If not loud enough for ya then yes mid resonator will make it sound deeper / more throaty. It wont be much louder mind.
Thanks for doing it, they’re no slouch as a stock car..I’ll maybe test mine now that it’s mapped with a gearbox flash....in the name of science of course
