i wish people would stop referring to these guys as 'ski patrol'... These guys are NOT ski patrol, they are 'Mountain Hosts' or 'safety patrol'... They don't have a tenth of the training ski patrol has... and truthfully, i don't think they have the authority to pull a pass... The trail was not marked closed at all ( no bamboo, no disc, no rope in sight), the kid was polite, and they were d-bag patrol wanna-be's who should be relieved of their duties. I hope you got this resolved.

I work lift in Tahoe every season and clown yellow jackets like this are nothing other than an annoyance.

Started watching skiing movies a few days ago, which are mostly from north america. WTF is going on over there? Poor ski lifts, tiny slopes which aren't prepared (well), no automatically scanned ski passes and those strange ski patrols which don't even exist in europe, though people are skiing more considerate over here.

Personally, I prefer to ski alone (: But, that might come from the fact that I love nature.

Glad I haven't witnessed this in Europe. Seems like everything is "At your own risk" which is pretty cool because it puts a lot of responsibility on that individual.

I ski at holiday Valley every year and there is no closed sign for happy glades and one time we got yelled at for going down it

Pretty much anywhere I have skied, if I see trees I think “off limits” unless I see a sign which says “comeback trail” which are established trails through trees usually for the purpose of toboggans avoiding the steep runs with moguls. If I have any doubts I check my trail map. It is true that at times and at some places the signs become buried in snowdrift, but the ski patrol usually checks these signs in the AM before the resort opens. One of the reasons why they open so late. At this resort it looked like they were operating a speed trap with safety peeps just waiting. Too many customers? These youngsters complied with instructions nicely. On that basis alone I would have just given them a warning. Maybe they have no way to track the number of warnings given, and this was the only way. Tree wells are common locations to find upside down skiers. Virgin snow is always a temptation so get to a resort early and be the first in line especially on a day after a bit of snowfall. Backcountry skiers need to wear an avalanche airbag and a PLB, not to mention a shovel and sometimes even snowshoes. I hate to say it, but if you see some skiers crossing the off limit tape, report them to ski patrol- it may save a life.

Both sides seem respective. you guys got to ski the rest of day and had to spend an extra 15mins the next day to pick up your passes. I blame the resort for not having a better system to regulate closed areas, blame the owners.

What's the point of taking their passes, giving them a temp to keep skiing and then giving them BACK their passes when they come back on Friday? That makes ZERO sense!!

The only time I see anything to do with American 'ski patrol' is negative and they always want to be punitive. Is it also true they have quotas and targets to hit in relation to taking away ski passes? You just don't get this is Europe.
