Becoming a Navy SEAL - Prepare Your Mind for Action Part 4
The Navy SEALS are an elite military unit that stands apart from the rest of the military. They are highly trained to be able to endure any type of combat and warfare, no matter how unconventional it is. They are conditioned to be able to handle whatever gets thrown at them during their missions. The physical, mental, and emotional strength demanded from SEALS is far more than the vast majority of us could ever hope to achieve. But, believe it or not, SEAL training has a lot of similarities to our Christian training, and Peter tells us why!

What was the point of it? Could He ask the same of us today?

    I stumbled upon this video and want to ask if you are speaking only to reformed audience or christian audience in general? If you are talking to christian audience in general (I suppose with a topic like this) it seems very much like you are promoting the doctrines of the reformed camp like they are one and true. You are using phrases like substitutionary atonement or original sin, which are doctrines developed later (for example the doctrine of original sin is firstly presented by St. Augustine). What if someone believes that they are guilty of their own individual sin, not the sin of Adam? Is that wrong? How so? You say you are adhering to the Bible as your only authority, yet you present these doctrines. Which someone compiled - hence the tradition. Every denomination has its tradition and interpretation of the Bible. Then you are basically comparing other denominations to your way of interpretation and tradition and being the judge of "we can be in agreement with this, but you don't adhere to this and that or you do that differently,..." You are saying that no man is able to follow God out of their own will/decision, yet then you say that we need to repent, take that step and follow God. You say that we are saved by grace through faith yet then you oppose free grace movement and say that repentance and obedience are necessary. I find these contradictory. Why not just say that faith without works of repentance is dead? Why not say that the decision to follow God is on us (which is in no way contradiction to the Gods sovereignty). The last thing I would mention is that I didn't hear in this video what Christ summarized as His teaching "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." This is what all christians should strive for. Doctrines might be different in every denomination, but this is what Christ calls us to.

    • @saraoroszova7685
      @saraoroszova7685 Месяц назад

      Just a correction - I am not saying that we shouldn't adhere to any doctrine or tradition, that is not even possible, that is how we function. The doctrines are good. What I think is bad is to keep on saying "our doctrine is the true one" or "our church is true one" (I am not suggesting you are doing so)

    • @Proverbs910Ministries
      @Proverbs910Ministries Месяц назад

      First, as we said in the episode, all Christians have unity with one another because we are all one in Christ. The important aspects of the differences come into play when it comes to ‘linking arms’ with one another. Can those of different theological camps link arms to fight against abortion? Yes. To stand together on political matters of importance? Yes. But when it comes to matters where theological teaching is involved, the answer is no. For instance, you mentioned substitutionary atonement being a “reformed” doctrine. It’s not a Reformed doctrine; it’s a biblical truth. Christ took the punishment on Himself in our place-He substituted Himself for us and took the punishment we deserved. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” Another thing you mentioned as “Reformed” is that we all inherited Adam’s sin. That’s also a biblical truth. Romans 5:12 says, “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned;” David said in Psalm 51:5, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” These truths you mentioned (and others) have important ramifications for understanding God, ourselves, and the world. That’s why partnering with others has to be given much thought. As we said, we are all one in Christ. As we also said in the episode, a person does not have to get every aspect these doctrines correct or even understand them to be a Christian; but once we are saved, it is important that we learn more and more, and learn correctly. Also, you mention God’s sovereignty in salvation. Understanding His complete sovereignty in everything is life-changing. We suggest watching or listening to our first episode of 2024, “ What was God Doing Before Creation?” to understand this doctrine better. pod.link/1483454015/episode/daa205ae44e3efd9f76c649de50e14bf or ruclips.net/video/hCaJfIXThK8/видео.htmlfeature=shared Thank you for commenting. @@Proverbs910Ministries Thank you for your response and that you are being open to the discussion with people who don't have same opinions. To your points of substitutionary atonement and original sin being biblical truths, not reformed doctrines: I get that biblical truths do not always have the same name in the Bible and how we call them now (when the doctrine developes and later we put a name on something which is not named in the Bible), however the doctrine of substitutionary atonement is mainly held in the western church whereas not in the eastern church. The church fathers mostly held to the Ransom theory and/or Christus Victor (Jesus as the Victor over death, darkness, sin - mentioned in Matthew 28:18, Isaiah 53, Romans 3:21-25, Hebrews 10:12-18). The Ransom theory is actually the oldest theory on atonement and together with the theosis forms the theory of atonement in the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Churches. Some hints on theosis are also present in the works of C.S.Lewis. The doctrine of original sin wasn't known to the first and second century christians (doesn't suggest that it is not true, merely that they didn't talk about it). What I notice in the verse you mentioned from Romans 5:12 is that the death is the "main disease" not sin. Death is what keeps spreading and affects everyone and every creature. And I totally disagree that according to Psalms 51:5 we can derive that all humanity is under the Adams sin. Even Genesis 3 where there is the original story described we don't see there words such as sin, transgression, rebellion or guilt. Nor there is any correlation between sex and disobedience. The church fathers before St. Augustine just don't mention this doctrine of original sin, which is almost 3 whole centuries. They might suggest that human beings are biased towards sinning, not that they inherited some sin nature from Adam. But St. Augustine starts talking about the way how Adam and Eve by sexual reproduction created human nature (thus sinful). The reformation took it even further and notably John Calvin put the corner stone of the doctrine of total depravity. And according to that no human is even willing to search for God (many examples directly from the Bible suggest otherwise). In this doctrine there is also difference between eastern and western church - where the eastern churches from the beginning of teaching the doctrine of original sin were against it and to this day don't hold to the idea of inherited guilt. By pointing all these things out I am merely suggesting that other churches who also hold to the teachings of Bible, who believe Jesus is the Son of God, who believe in the Trinity... just have different doctrines and explain differently the things described in the same Bible we all have. I think Christ gave us the perfect example how to remain in unity which I described in my previous comment, I just want to add to that: (1.John 1:5-9) "This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." What I take from this is that if we remain in the light (which is the truth of Jesus Christ) and we keep confessing our sins that is when we have fellowship with one another and with God - thats when we have unity.

    • @Proverbs910Ministries

      @@saraoroszova7685 To think that we did not inherit the sin of Adam is to realm into heresies. 1 Corinthians 15:22 says that in Adam all died. Adam was our federal head. We need(ed) a new federal head - Jesus! Penal substitutionary atonement is also, indeed, a biblical doctrine. For more on it, we did an episode, number 239, mostly about that subject. Please take time to study and pray about the Scriptures we've mentioned earlier and these doctrines.

    A loving God wouldn't condemn someone based on their sexual orientation. I disagree that we cant cherry pick the Bible because we wouldnt be able to have it fit our values. We dont have to agree with everything the authors of the Bible say because their opinions are based on limited knowledge and world view. The idea that someone is evil because of their sexual preferences is a trashy perspective. And to try to throw a good God under the bus to hide the fact that it's your opinion is even trashier. I'm sensing a spirit of trash here.

    Having a love one in this sin, THANK YOU for holding fast to the truth of God's Word. I struggle with anger of "churches "/"Christians " who approve of this sin. It is never loving to lie and deceive people. The agenda is from Hell.

      Thank you, Lois! It seems we all have family and / or friends that are involved in one of these things. I think that’s why so many just want to stay quiet about it and ignore it - or worse yet, like you said, approve of it! You’re right, the agenda is from hell and is pure evil. “Woe to those who call darkness light and light darkness." Thanks for the comment!

    There isn't any way on earth that you can tell someone they are inherently sinful and condemned to hell while NOT being "awkward". At all. Ever. It's an utterly vile and traumatizing worldview. And you can either hear that as "persecution" or you can re-evaluate your life choices. But going through life thinking everyone is tainted and should be assigned to everlasting conscious torment is grotesque.

      We are so thrilled you are enjoying it! We do not have the study on DVD. However, besides the book, study guide, and podcast episodes, we do have extra teaching videos on RUclips on the different chapters of the book. We take a theme of the chapter and dig a little deeper into it.

    Ladies I’m keen to hear more about you being kicked out of a church for being reformed do you have a separate testimony video on that? I’d love to know your story

      Thanks! We will probably go into it in detail in a future episode. Long story short, we were in a church that wasn't Reformed but the Pastor said it was very accepting of Reformed Theology. Only took a few women making a stink about it for him and the church leadership to change their mind.
