Mary O'Leary on Terror at Collinwood Podcast
He was much too good for Hollywood. He had a part in a very Grade B movie called "The Devil's Daughter" (not sure if it originally aired on the big screen) starring Shelley Winters. He played a deaf-mute butler with NO speaking lines. His true love was the stage, and it was so good that he went back to it.
Dark Shadows had a mix of good actors to poor actors. I would say Lara Parker was one of the best. Her large expressive eyes as she hatched out another diabolical plot was classic.
I can picture what the characters look like and the cellar….my goodness Jonathan Frid was so exceptionally talented. RIP
OH, the speaker here is almost unintelliglble due to ECHO, and much of what he is saying is jibberty jabberty.
No matter how many times they tried to redo DS and pick someone to play Angelique, LARA PARKER is the quintessential and ONLY Angelique.
WOW! He did Shakespeare so well! His Shakespeare voice sounds a lot like his Barnabas Collins voice. Did anyone else notice this? Thanks for sharing this! ~Janet in Canada
Beautiful tribute for a beautiful lady.
Very touching words, Donna Wandrey. Your kind words about Jonathan Frid brought tears of joy to my eyes Donna Wandrey’s role as Roxanne Drew (particularly during the 1970 Parallel Time storyline) was (aside from Kathryn Leigh Scott’s various characters) the greatest female role on Dark Shadows (beating Alexandra Moltke’s Victoria Winters and Grayson Hall & Nancy Barrett’s various roles). I enjoyed the chemistry between Roxanne and Barnabas (aside from Barnabas & Victoria and Maggie & Willie/Quentin)
She was a wonderful actress and she played a great character
My favorite show of all time. Still daydream (and the occasional nightmare) of Collinsport. 54 and still get to dream, thank you Barnabas and thank, you Roxanne.
Sad she’s gone I have to Admit though didn’t really care for her Role as Angelelic she was too mean to Barnabas and Josette
Barnabas shouldn't have done her and dumped her in Martinique.
Great story! I laughed when the water ghost froze! The heir of Harrowby Hall was very smart, indeed! Jonathan's voice is so lovely to listen to! I hope he gets to read stories in heaven! ~Janet in Canada
Lovely lady
Short, but great! He was a very exciting reader and put everything into his readings. He was wonderful! ~Janet in Canada
I enjoyed listening to John Frid read that creepy story! He was great at acting, and reading! TFS! ~Janet in Canada
I love the way he reads the story! He does different voices, and I love that! John Frid had a wonderful voice! ~Janet in Canada
Thank you, Donna, for that lovely tribute to Jonathan Frid! Yes, he was a very kind man, and he did have a great sense of humour. I love that about him. RIP Jonathan Frid, and if he were still alive, he'd be turning 100 years old this December 2nd! TFS! ~Janet in Canada
Donna looks beautiful, and I appreciate her kinds words about Jonathan.
Donna, you have a terrific personality and a genuine actress. ✨
I adore his voice. The Dark Shadows show walled up how many people over the years?
Loved you in the show
Very kind words! Many thanks for sharing.
I've heard many stories of his nurturing to younger actors. Thank you for sharing.
So ironic that you should mention going on to "the next thing" because I followed to straight to that thing, Somerset! I loved your portrayal of India Delaney, it was delicious! My friends and I laughed over the time India got hit on the head with the candlestick and the show moved so slowly, it seemed like she laid behind the couch unconscious for 2 weeks! When you started talking about playing Eleanor, I was wishing I could've seen it and then you do the monologue from it - talk about instant gratification! Seeing you over the years in videos realaed to Dark Shadows has let me know that you are a warm and wonderful person and I admire you greatly. I LOVED you in the Dark Shadows Christmas Carol, you were superb, as were all the others. I hope that you get to do something similar again soon. Watching the DS Christmas Carol has already become a holiday tradition for me and I treasure it, not only for it's greatness, but to get to see all my favorites doing what they do best and to see Mitchell and Lara one last time. God Bless You Marie, much love to you!
What a lovely tribute! I hope you see this Donna because I want you to know that I thought you were great from Day One on Dark Shadows. And you did a great job all through your stay with the show. Sad to hear that someone was mean to you but I'm sure the other great people on Dark Shadows, especially Jonathan, made up for it. I was SO sad when Dark Shadows went off the air but if I had known that someday it would be possible to own the entire series on DVD (and VHS tapes!) and that I'd get to see the people that I admired so much again later in life though videos like this, I know I would've been much less sad. All the best to you, it sounds like you have a good life and enjoy what you do. And you deserve that! Love to you!
I hope it was fun for you to play an evil vampire. I remember when Jonathan as Barnabas opened the coffin and you were ready to attack.
Wonderful memories! Thank you for sharing them with us. You look so beautiful.❤
Marie, you played three of the most diverse characters in the show.Eve was a wicked, horrible woman. She made Angelique look like June Cleaver.Magda was a sad woman who lost her mind.Megan Todd was at first a very likable character whose life turned tragically wrong. She bacame a part of the Leviathans then a vampire who was staked.
I remember seeing you olay a stewarde in that commercial for the coffee creamer after the end of your Dark Shadows run.I hated to see you leave the show, Roxanne was one of my favorite characters.
🙏 This is so wonderful, thank you Dr. Kattelman for accepting Jonathan Frid's Archieves -- and thank you Mary O'Leary for making this happen by reaching out to Dr. Beth Kattelman, Curator of the Lawrence & Lee Theatre Research Institute at The Ohio State University in Columbus !! 🙏
🙏 Beautiful and loving tribute, thank you so much, Marie! Jonathan lives on within our hearts. 💖🌟💖
Thank you for your memories, Donna. Here is one of mine: I was so thrilled that the new character on my favorite show had my name (Roxanne)!! I had never met another Roxanne in my short life and you were the first I had seen on TV. That is a very special memory to me. 🥰
Thank you for this. I still love Jonathan and Barnabas. It's wonderful to hear about some of your time with him. You were fantastic on the show.
Donna, Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories, and stories of Jonathan Frid.It makes my heart feel so good to know that Jonathan was a kind, loving man. I loved your story line as Roxanne. You had such a "Natural" glamour compared to the other female interests of Barnabas. I always admired your beautiful facial profile, and Hip hairstyle of the time ! You have a lovely voice too.Thank you for your great portrayal of Roxanne (That mean director was a bully),and Jonathan took you under his wing.I love that story, and how you were so impressed with Jonathan having a mini fridge in his dressing room. Oh, I agree with you whole heartily, Jonathan looked great in his "Period Costumes" ! Much Love, Cindy💕
Marie, You really moved me with your recollections of the great Jonathan Frid. I only wish I could have told him while he was here how I adored his performances on Dark Shadows,it was where most of us Americans had the chance to experience his amazing acting. Jonathan was able to convey his feelings, and moods without uttering a single word .His facial expressions, and those penetrating eyes of his said it all.His voice was able to convince those around him of anything.I truly regret that I never watched Dark Shadows until a few years ago,and Jonathan had already left us.I would've loved to let him know how his portrayal of Barnabas, and Bramwell made me an enamored Fan for life. I miss you Jonathan.Marie, thank you for sharing your memories, and kind words with us. Much Love, Cindy 💕
What a wonderful gem to have been given! Thanks for sharing!
Uma bela homenagem à Lara! Grato a todos que participaram. David é surpreendente!
I have been bingeing on Dark Shadows DVDs & had not looked online for awhile. I had no idea she had passed. Very sad today, RIP “Angelique”. You were my favorite character. With love, from a fan since my childhood.
Wonderful tribute! RIP Lara Parker.
Lara will always be in the hearts of Dark Shadows fans! Her eyes were the most expressive of I've seen! Very talented actress!
A very great actress-maybe the greatest horror actress in TV history and remember that includes people like Barbara Steele and Sara Michelle Geller. Having said that, I never bought her as a baby face-only as a villain. She was not the most interesting or nonderivative female villain-that was Laura Collins played perfectly by Diana Millay-she and not Barnabas was the original supernatural "baddie" in DS.
@@RobertPentangelo Ah, the Phoenix! but was she a villian or just not human and she wanted her kids. Angelique was not baby faced. She was gorgeous. I see Angelique as a tragic figure, only to have Barnabas REALIZE that he did love her all the while. Dark Shadows, if you watch all at once, is a very sad series!
@@tanl7756 When I say "baby face" that is an expression in pro wrestling for the "good guy" as opposed to the "heel" the bad guy. She was never punished fully for all the evil she did.
@@RobertPentangelo She was VICTIM, a tragic figure
Wonderful tribute to such a great actress, author and so much more than that. She was just a genuine person.❤❤❤😊😊😊
She did not like cops. In her book The Salem Branch -- she had police out to be goons who try to take people's constitutional rights away like right to assembly.
Thank you for sharing, very nice ❤
Absolutely loved her as Angelique! Charlize Theron bears a resemblance to Lara Parker. Such a classic beauty.
This was beautiful for a beautiful woman and actress. Thank you for posting this. She will be missed
Beautifully done! Thank you for sharing this momentous, special occasion.
Thank you for doing the video!
Thank You so much for this. D.S. always in my heart. Since I was 10 yo in 1966. I teared up several times. Thanks again so much.
Beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Very genuine and moving. We're all getting older together. Dark Shadows and these characters and these Very Talented Actors will Always be Most Special.
