I have fond memories of playing this as a kid on Atari St. Oh boy, has it not aged well, though - it really controls terribly, like most Amiga/Atari St era platformers 😂

Clearly the franchaise goes on with some level of success. But the games really tried too hard to break the myth that these machines "couldnt do Sonic" at those breakneck speeds (also Zool) . Its clear to see from the footage that this was easily disproved. What is also clear from the issues and faults with them described that , what couldnt be matched was Segas level of QA control and larger development might, those machines were techically capable of greatness.

My Dream be like:

Castle of Illusion is great! But the whole Illusion series is amazing, my favorite being World of Illusion. But the Master System/Game Gear also had Land of Illusion and the not so much talked Legend of Illusion which is also great!

It was my favorite game on gameboy. Played it like crazy back then.

I use to sit in class in 98 with my big old Gameboy playing this game all day. It was one of those classes you really just had to be there to pass. loved this game

I saw an ad from Instagram about your channel. This game was an important part of my childhood and is one of the best Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games that I have ever played. The soundtrack is also fantastic. Now that it has been re-relased as part of the Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked collection, I highly recommend that everyone should play it.

Great review! I remember picking this one up on release as a 12-year-old, and believe it or not, it didn’t get much press, and it was priced relatively cheap at $34.99, so my expectations were tempered, but thankfully blown away! Very nice editing and presentation, man!
