The best place to start is to Not get in to this game. Far to costly for a game in the current economy. Find a cheaper game made by a smaller company. There are so many other out there. Game Workshop is a greedy corporate monster who is not here to support the players, they are here for PROFIT !

I agree with everything said in this video and I want to expand and emphasize some points as well as add my own. When choosing an army it really is imperative that you start from a place of love for their lore or their models, NOT how they play in the tabletop. I think at best that should be a secondary concern, for two reasons. Firstly, the rules change often, and though the feel of an army may be consistent across editions, it is very common for the rules to change (more common than lore changes or models going out of print) such that specific combos you liked are invalidated or the way an army works is changed and makes your preferred playstyle difficult or impossible. Secondly, and this may be a controversial opinion, but 40k isn't a very good game system. I'm not saying it's bad, but there are tighter rulesets out there that have more elements of strategy, such as Infinity. In my decade of playing mainstream 40k and Horus Heresy it is plainly obvious how easy it is to break these rulesets. You don't HAVE to play like that of course, but the game is still a game, there is a competitive aspect to it, and unless you are the most limp fish fluff bunny player, there is an innate draw towards that competitive aspect. 40k is meant to chill and relax and roll dice, getting into it for it's rules is folly. I know this personally because when I moved away from my friends and tried playing Horus Heresy 2e on Tabletop Simulator online, and all joy rapidly escaped the game as I moved these finnicky little low poly models around a virtual table. The life of the game comes from the modelling, lore, and camaraderie between you and your fellow players. If you draw your inspiration for the game from the game itself, you will be frustrated more often than not. That second point was the main thing I wanted to express to newbies. Thin your paints!

Tip #1: Never buy from games workshop directly, buy from hobby stores, this way you support local buisness. And it's few pounds cheaper this way

I know it’s fashionable to bash GW (for many reasons rightfully so) for their lack of support at times and pricing but with that said, the lore and context for their models is outstanding. Yes it’s an expensive, sometimes unreasonable hobby by also can be very rewarding.

Best beginner tip is to dump Games Workshop rules. Dump them as fast as you can. Pick up a core ruleset from onepagerules, and your stat sheets for your army. Then adapt and simplify. You'll be more likely to stick with the hobby that way and your friends and family may even give it a try once you've got a couple spare armies. Games Workshop rules suck. Leave them to the try-hard meta obsessed tournament guys.

The music is absolutly missplaced. Put in some "two steps from hell" music into it!

Tbh this is your main channel if you ask me 😅 I hope you enjoy AoS 4.0, its 3rd edition was my absolute favourite game until 40k 10th came around and everyone started playing that in my group

I discovered 3d printing 5 years ago and printed out 11 titans in various sizes causing GW a total loss of around $18k. I will print larger models in the future causing more and more loss to that fucking woke DEI cocksucker GW. ;)

Yo good to see people talking about aos lore! The grand alliances are good for giving overall motivations for the factions. The Aos books are great too, especially the soulblight and bonereaper novels.

Melee ranges, to be clear. Ranged weapons still have their own range characteristics, but units within 3” of an enemy can make attack roles with their melee weapons

Now, as a hobbying interest, assembling and painting models is fun! It has entertained alot of people for 30 odd years. I remember a picture of a young Owen Rees (who went to work for GW) in a White Dwarf magazine, lining up in the Nottingham GW to pay for his figures. Hobbying is a fun thing. Sad GW shot everyone in BACK!

Ebay and Etsy have armies at 1/4 the price of GW

I got back into the game in 10th edition. Went to my LGS and showed off my Ultramarines. Didn't get to play, but I got to talk to a lot of good people. A week later my LGS manager texts me and says, "hey you play Ultramarines, right? I got a bunch of units and a Guilliman someone dropped off for you." I said, "oh, how much does he want for 'em?" He said "nah, it's free." I've never had anyone ever do anything so nice for me in my entire life.

Great video! For Space Marines I play Dark Angels and Black Templar, World Eaters and Thousand Sons. For Xenos I play Orks and Leagues of Votann. I also have 2K points of Imperial Knights and Chaos Knights. Though I don't play them often, They were fun to model and customize.
