Our first trip! Chapter Three: The end of the beginning!
Nice videos! I'm in the market for this exact RV Grey Wolf 18RR Black Label. What did you end up paying if you don't mind me asking? Prices are so hard to nail down from dealers. I'm guessing about $30k Thanks
We bought it 3 years ago, so take that into consideration. We paid $26k then.
What brand motorycle wheel chock is that and Mat?
It looks like it is unavailable on Amazon but here is the link. EGO Bike Wheel Chock - www.amazon.com/EGO-BIKE-Motorcycle-Adjustable-Capacity/dp/B01MFZZ4VF The key is to find one that has attachment points for your tie-downs.
love the video, but please remove the music while you are talking. Hard to focus on what you are talking about. The other thing is my 18rrbl has an on-demand heater, but I believe I have it figured out.
Sorry about the music! Denise was wearing a microphone and forgot to turn it off while she was vacuuming inside the RV so the audio was already wrecked! How do you like the on-demand water heater? Is it propane or electric, or both?
Great idea! What is that mat and where can I find it?
It is a rug pad. Not sure where I got it, but I'm sure you can get them lots of places.
Is there enough room for a fatboy and a sportster? Or is it limited to one bike
You can see in the video that there isn't a lot of space to move inside with only one bike, so even if you could manage to fit the sportster up forward, you wouldn't really be able to live in it without unloading at every stop. If you only plan on traveling within a day's drive, that would be fine, I suppose, but for a longer trip, loading and unloading every day would get old very quickly.
Can you get 2 motorcycles in it just not enough room. I have a fatboy and my wife has an 883xl sportster. I saw someone get 2 sport bikes in one on toutube but not sure about the harleys
I don't think there is enough room in this model for two bikes, comfortably. You might be able to squeeze them in if you moved the sportster all the way forward (there are tie-downs in the floor next to the bed), but you would not be able to access anything inside (including the bathroom and the bed) unless you unload first.
Coat the ramp with non skid style paint
It actually already is.
Thanks 👍 I'm going to do the same. But going to use the dipping suggestion. Thanks again
No problem 👍
I appreciate everything you do so I know what to do and not to do 😂😂😂
Glad I could help!🥴👍
uh uh what color is your truck?
Orange!
Do you tow your 18RR whit colorado v6
Yes, it tows great, even with my motorcycle inside.
Did you paint the toy hauler cabinets or did you wrap them black?
Nope, that is the color they came from the factory!
That's the black label Edison I believe
Correct!
@@doubledinanrv I see. They changed the color to light brown on the newer models.
Your back round music is so loud I can understand what you are saying.
Sorry about that, I was trying something new for a short video. Basically the output hose was leaking at the fitting and if I hadn't tested the setup with fresh water first, I would have had sewage everywhere!
This is a GREAT and simple solution. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!

I found some steep ramps, uneven camp sites, wet conditions, slippery ramps, ets. This is my solution…works amazing. Loading & Unloading of motorcycles from Toy Hauler ruclips.net/video/ssoZpPpqm0Y/видео.html
I have an 18rr that I use for atvs. I was wondering about loading my street glide, that’s a steep ramp!!! Thank you for your videos and the comments, I now have a plan👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad to help
There is no need to go that fast. When you go to fast, you have to hit the break too hard and you will lose control. Slow and steady is the way. I've loaded my Ultra Classic dozen's of times without any problems. If you have to use a winch to load and unload, maybe you should think twice about riding a motorcycle.
If I go too slow, the rear tire sometimes loses traction on the ramp and it was hard to get over the rocker on the chock. Too fast and I bottom out and lose control. It is definitely a fine line. I wouldn't even think of using a winch to load. I have since removed the rocker piece from the chock, which was a large part of the problem.
I have a different toy hauler (Cruiser RV MPG 2700TH ... 32' tongue-to-bumper), but it looks very similar. The floor of my trailer may be a little higher than yours (I'm not sure though). I was very uneasy with the steep slope of the ramp; so, I opted to extend my ramp. I drop the ramp halfway, resting it on two jack stands. I then put a wide aluminum ramp from the toy hauler ramp to the ground. It is MUCH less of a pucker riding the bike (I have Harley Road Glide and a Harley Heritage... but only take one or the other) into the trailer and backing it out. It's more equipment to have, and to take on trips, but it's worth it to me. I use a Bolt-it-on portable tire chock, which I really like.
I considered that method, but I am concerned about the weight of the bike on the ramp when it is supported like that. It is designed to be on the ground and I worry that it could buckle or warp when lifted. How does yours hold up?
@@doubledinanrv, I have a limited data set to give a good answer to the longevity question. With a dozen or so uses, I have not seen any bending or warping of the ramp. Qualitatively, I don't think that the door will warp with two jack stands. If that were a concern, a third jack stand could be added to the center of the ramp, and that should certainly support the center of the ramp. The steep angle of the door (without the add-on ramp extension) is too great for me to be comfortable riding a 950-lb touring Harley up, especially with my 30"-in-seam legs (that distance to the ground for me feet when the bike is halfway up the ramp would be too much for my short legs to touch). The extended ramp is the right choice for my situation. With that said, though, I will consider adding a jackstand to the center of the ramp. Adding a third jackstand is a good idea, and am glad that you have mentioned it. The real key to making the extended ramp system work is to make damn sure that the add-on ramp is ratchet-strapped VERY well to the RV structure (I connect to the tie-down connections on the aft end of the RV garage).
You should post a video of you backing your bike down the ramp
Hi, thanks for watching. If you check out the Loading Fail and Traveling with the motorcycle video from last fall we show unloading the bike.
This is a very valuable series for people who just want to take a single motorcycle along while not getting involved with a large toy hauler. The choices in a small toy hauler that can be towed with a half ton pickup are few. I don't have a Grey Wolf 18RR, but I'm considering it or the larger 22RR. My tow vehicle is an F-150 with Max Tow package. That you are towing this trailer with a Chevy Colorado is interesting and I look forward to hearing more about your tow vehicle and this trailer. I will work my way through the entire series.
I'm glad we could help you explore your options! This trailer should be no problem for your truck, as the Colorado tows it just fine. I hope you're enjoying the rest of the videos. Be sure to let us know what you like and want to see more of! Thanks for watching!
Show how to unwinterize. Thanks
There is a dewinterize video up there from this past spring!
Hi Liking all the Video's. Question what are you towing the 18rr with ? Looks k\like a Colorado? What engine do you have?
Hi Scott, you are correct, it's a 2021 Colorado with the V6. We use an Andersen hitch. It tows great! Haven't had any issues so far and we get about 9-12 mpg.
Strange that wire broke like that. Hows that colorado doing on mpg hauling that rig?
Yes it was strange. I think it was just routed wrong and got pinched. The Colorado does pretty well. I get 9-12 mpg typically. It actually does better on the country roads than on the highway. I've been pretty happy with the performance overall.
I have an 18RR. It was cool seeing you load a bike in "my" camper :)
Glad to help! How do you like the 18RR? How do you use it?
@@doubledinanrv I love my little 18RR toy hauler. I have a KTM 390 Adventure that I haul, as well as my kayak.
Hi, I have the 2020 Grey Wolf 19RR and I never put RV antifreeze into the water lines i just put RV antifreeze in the drains and Gray & Black tanks. I use an air compressor to blow out the water lines at 8 - 10 psi to get all the water lines cleared of moister. I was told that if you put RV antifreeze in your water lines it takes forever to get clear water once you want to reopen the camper for the next season. I have done it this way for the past 3 years and have had no issues with cracked pipes. Its just a suggestion of saving you some time and water trying to get the antifreeze out of your fresh water system. I hook up the air compressor up to your City Water Inlet with a special attachment that threads in where your water hose goes....
Thanks for the suggestion. I don't find that it takes much to flush the system since I do it while I'm at home but I see your point. I've considered getting the compressor attachment, but haven't yet. Perhaps I'll reconsider! Thanks for the tip! P.s. How have you liked your Grey Wolf?
AWESOME VIDEO!! I really didn't want to drill into the floor. I might be selling next year. :)
We didn't drill anything into the floor. We are using the factory installed D rings in our toy hauler.
3 words... buy a winch. im in the same situ and thats too stressfull for me.
Can't say I haven't thought about that. But, I am not sure how I would even mount that. And I think I like the adventure of loading it and not knowing if it will be a smooth evolution or all go wrong! It keeps things interesting!
I might suggest moving the chock off center away from the fridge. Might balance the load and give you better access to the fridge without off loading the bike. All in all, it’s a great idea.
I agree, I do plan to try moving the chock over a bit. I'll have to drill a new hole, but it should be fine. Thanks for watching.
is the AC quieter?
It doesn't change the noise level of the AC. It just lets the compressor spin up slightly slower in order to draw less current when you turn it on. Otherwise, it operates the same! Thanks for watching!
This is is the video I've been waiting to see (commented on one of your first big trip videos)! Thank you so much. The 18RR is nap, crap and snack fantastic (from Josh the RV Nerd, lol). I'm thinking more on the 22RR now, gives a bit more space and bigger bedroom, otherwise it's really the same camper. I just bought an F150 with the max tow package so I can handle the size. I have a buddy that bought the 18RR and loves it. He uses a loading ramp in addition to the trailer's ramp to smooth that out. He also uses a chock. Cheers!
Glad I was able to provide some perspective! I agree the 22RR would be roomier when traveling with the bike. I just didn't feel comfortable pulling that with my Colorado!
@@doubledinanrv Totally understand. My buddy that has an 18RR first tried pulling with his older Tacoma, and ended up getting a half ton truck. He and his wife just got back from taking their Roadmaster in the camper from Tennessee to Wisconsin and had nothing but good things to say about their trip and the camper. That's what we are looking for. Want to take some extended trips, bringing one big bike or 2 smaller bikes, having space for me to work while on the road.
I am looking at an 18RR. The ramp looks kind off steep compared to my current enclosed cargo trailer. Do you have the bike running when you back it out so you can use the clutch as a sort of brake for the rear tire when backing out? I have a Road Glide, but also have some smaller bikes.
The ramp is steep. If you lift the tongue to its max it helps a lot. I sometimes do start it, but not always. Out isn't the hard part. I have another video coming that shows more about traveling with the bike.
Saw you almost scratch the fridge. I would recommend rounding off the ends of the bar and dipping them in liquid rubber. I am considering the 18RR but have more than one bike so I would have to come up with a way to secure multiple bikes.
Yes, I did almost scratch the fridge. That's a good idea. If you managed to get two bikes in there, you likely wouldn't have any room to move inside. You would have to unload every time you stopped. I'm editing a video now that shows how we travel with the bike loaded.
@@doubledinanrv , as long as I can crawl into bed I would be OK. It is only me. I like to set up at state parks and do loop rides for 3 or 4 days. I am currently using a 6x12 cargo trailer I converted into a toy hauler. I have everything except water and can carry either the Harley or two of my smaller bikes. The 18RR would allow me to carry one small bike and my canoe if I was camping on a lake. I am also looking at carrying one RV sized swivel recliner and might just leave the rear bed out if traveling alone.
I have the same unit. Love what you did with the floor.
Awesome! Thank you!
First time over the weekend loading. Learned the hard way, once you hit the ramp, don’t pussyfoot around. Just go. Dropped it.
Oh no! This is a fact. On the ramp is the place where you are least stable. You have to pick your line and commit. It's easier to back out and try again than to stop midway. Hope there were no injuries!
@@doubledinanrv just my pride. Thank goodness for crash bars
Thought you might feel better about yourself knowing I fell over loading last weekend. I'll be posting a video soon. It's definitely a dangerous evolution!
@@doubledinanrv on the bright side, had no issues loading it back up for way home from Sturgis
So true! Go slow but go steady and don't stop.
Lovely
Thanks for sharing. It was fun.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a great trip!
I like the idea. Were looking at a 18RR and it is nice to see how others load their bike. What is the distance from the tire in the mount to the back wall? I need a full 9" for my Indian Chieftain Classic. Also great idea to use the mat.
Hi Scott, I am not sure what the distance is. I will have to put the chock back in and measure. My bike is ~96" long and there is about 6-10" behind the rear tire when it is in. I'll let you know when I have a chance to mount it again.
Right on Double D. I believe I watched the gentleman’s video who came up with the idea of using angle iron with a wheel chock. Pretty cool setup for sure. Thanks for sharing!
Wait I wanted to see how the wheel chock was secured to the floor! ✌🏽
OK, I guess I need to make another video showing the chock in more detail.
@2wheelskenobi New video on the wheel chock has been posted!
When we start using rv each year we always change the smoke alarm battery
That's sounds like a smart idea. I did check it (didn't make the video) but didn't replace it. Maybe I'll add that to our list.
Nice video. Hope y'all have a nice travel season!
Thank-you!
I've enjoyed your videos. How did your Colorado do overall with towing? I've been researching the 18RR and have kind of assumed that with it's weight and that of a 900lb motorcycle that we should be using a full sized truck.
The Colorado is a great little truck and it tows great. With the bike in the back, we still come in under the max tow weight (estimated, I haven't weighed it, yet) and tongue weight. With the bike loaded we can't fill the water tank, though, or we'd be over. It handles very well, though sometimes when it's windy or getting passed by a big truck, you can feel it pull you sideways a bit. Never enough to be worried about it, though. I use the Anderson hitch and it does a wonderful job at sway control. I am sure a full size truck would likely be a little better, but the Colorado does just fine. (And we average 10-12 mpg when fully loaded, depending on traffic).
Nice series! Couple of questions. Did you unload the bike at every stop or just work around it on the stops on the way down or the way back up? Also, Does the 18RR not have a heater or furnace? You said in the first video that you used a buddy propane heater and that you had a small electric heater. Or is it that the heater on the 18RR uses to much power or gas?
Thank you! We do not unload at every stop. There is just enough room to squeeze between the bike and the sink and we can open the refrigerator also. It is tight, but definitely doable. The 18RR has a furnace, but this was our first trip and we were worried about draining the battery using the furnace (blower takes a lot of juice!). Looking back, we likely would have been fine. We have since upgraded the battery and solar, so no worries anymore!
@@doubledinanrv Good to know! I could probably work that out just on the dimensions/floor plan, but I hadn't really thought about it until I watched you two travel in it. We're probably into next year before we have truck and trailer, but it would be our first camper. I have a midsize truck that could pull it, but it's older and high mileage so would be worried about longer trips.
You guys are living my dream! I want to take my wife out west on some extended trip and bring our motorcycle and our pup. I ran across your channel because of the 18RR, which is my favorite toy hauler that I've found so far.
Thanks for watching! We're having a blast so far!
