Swetha's Birth Premonition
Midwives notes:
Swetha, during pregnancy, was concerned about the distance between her home and BV. Despite it being just 30 mins. But mama's have their intuition and we respect that.
And it so happened that she went into labour at 36+3 days! Almost that Swetha had a premonition!
In the medical system, she would have been considered 'small and frail' for natural birth. But with us, she roared her baby out.

Deep Sea. Deeper Faith.
Просмотров 82Месяц назад
Midwife's Notes: Maisha just knew how she wanted to birth her babies. More than theory, she was in touch with her inner self. She and her partner are deep sea divers. Being in water, with nature and absolutely intuitive about their own bodies, it was a delight to witness them bring their babies with so much awareness. Maisha also had really quick births. It takes a whole lot of commitment to no...
Gati: The Birth Trooper
Просмотров 962 месяца назад
Gati, an intuitive mama, had a really strong sense of how she wanted to birth her children. Her first baby was in a breech position and that got her to search for a care provider who wouldn't force her for a cesarean. She has a vaginal birth at BV. For her second baby, she had ruptured membranes, no signs of labour. She stood astute in her beliefs, despite her family's concerns. She spoke to he...

Sruti and Deepak were not just together as a couple, but they were together as parents as well. They both worked holding the other's hands, made choices that felt right and had a birth experience they deserved. Birth outcomes and experiences change, when families take charge of their care and their birth. More importantly when they ask questions from their care providers. #naturalbirth #birthce...
Free Spirited Birth

Midwife's Notes: This traveller couple had no fears or worries. Not bound by any convention, they easily surrendered to the process of birth. They created a beautiful altar, unlike we have ever seen, from which they seemed to draw strength as they navigated the unknown. The scan showed the baby was measuring small, but my hands said otherwise. And Asna had belief in her body and her birth team....
Couple. Committed. VBAC.

Midwives Notes: Being alone in labour the first time to being held with loving hands this time. Aparna worked hard for this birth. But as labour progressed, the intensity left her feeling overwhelmed. It was then her loving partner and her birth team, who encouraged her through each contraction with affirmations. She was reminded of her dream for a natural birth that helped her. Giving birth is...

This lovely couple, Priya and Karthik, knew exactly how they wanted to give birth. With a team that will trust them as much as they trusted themselves. They also realised that considering their age, a hospital will likely put them on a clock and will ultimately lead them to a cesarean. This drove them, literally and figuratively, to Kochi. Despite all resistance from their families, they packed...
Against Odds: Mai's VBAC
Просмотров 1919 месяцев назад
Midwife notes: Mai, originally from Japan, is now married and settled in Kolkata. Every culture has its own communal way to bring babies, ceremonies, rituals & celebrations. Giving birth away from one's home country does not consider traditional values & innate knowledge that a woman may have embodied as a young girl. And Mai was determined to not just birth her baby in India, but have a VBAC t...

Midwife notes: Keerthana took 4 hours to go from 5 to 7 cms, 6 hours from 7 to 8 cms, another 4 to reach 10 cms and then 4 hours to push the baby. This labour was long & asked more of everyone present in the room. Determination, grit, patience & faith. And Pranab made sure there was all of this in good measure. We experience the power of mothers & babies during birth when we stop viewing them f...

Know what’s lithotomy position? It’s lying on your back during birth, which limits space in pelvis, making it harder to give birth. Following are the known harms of lithotomy position: - Lower blood pressure, making contractions more painful - Makes it difficult to push - Increases need of episiotomy & perineal tears - Increase risk of caesarean or forceps - Risk of sphincter injury due to incr...
Unshaken: Pregnancy to birth
Просмотров 179Год назад
Midwife notes: A baby that wasn't growing well, had slight variations in heart rate, an anxious mother, membranes releasing with no contractions for 24 hours, natural induction. This birth had it all. And we gave it our all in return. And so did Sushmitha. This mama's only concern in pregnancy was- how would labour start. But once it kicked in, it was nothing for her. As a birthcenter, we live ...

Midwife’s notes: Anna had come for her regular follow-up. It wasn’t even her turn yet, but one look at her and I knew she was in active labour. I called her in. She was experiencing only mild discomfort but she was 6 cm. From there at 11:30 am, it took her 10 hours to reach 8 cm. And finally she gave birth at 1:15 am. A birth like this would be called Failure to Progress. But what defines ‘fail...
Embracing Birth's Faith

Trusting in birth and the body can indeed be a formidable challenge. However, it's crucial to remember that each birth is a unique journey, shaped by a multitude of factors, and it need not follow the same trajectory as those before. In these moments of uncertainty, placing trust in the body's innate wisdom, the birthing process, and a supportive birth team becomes paramount, which helps open t...

Some journeys inspire us to connect to our inner resilience, don't they? This is one such journey; Crossing the 40-week mark, battling fluctuating blood pressure levels, and navigating through meconium-stained amniotic fluid, all while staying determined to birth her baby. Time and again we are reminded that it's the web of support that a mamma gets which determines the nature of her birth expe...

Congratulations 🎉 ❤this is a beautiful family
Private hospitals do trick and cheat you. They cheated me. They did an unnecessary c section on me, which I came to realize after coming to BV. They told me I was fully dilated and took me to the labour room and asked me to push. What a fool I was, I pushed so hard EVEN WHEN I HAD NO SENSATION OF PAIN OR DISCOMFORT. Then they said baby has cord around his neck and c section to be done. But I am thankful to them in a way because it was because of that c section, for my second delivery I chose BV. I madly wanted to have a normal delivery. BV is out of the world. 😊😊😊😊I can't thank them enough.

VBAC available ano ma'am
There are also hospitals in kerala that conducts many VBACs.Santhi Hospital Omassery,Kozhikode has a very good maternity department with around 6000 deliveries per year and majority are normal and VBACs with a very low cs rate.(They allow the pregnancy get to reach 40 weeks in its natural way if there is not much complications. Most of the care providers today try to induce labour when the women just reaches term that is 37 weeks highlighting very minor complications, that is the reason for increased C- section in primies(first time pregnant women) I am a doctor studied in a govt college in kerala and worked in pvt n govt hospitls in Kerala and nw living n wrking in Germany..Here in Germany most of the deliveries are normal and when there is no complications induction may be done after 40 weeks.40weeks+3- 7 daysand most of them deliver naturally🙂. Midwives (Hebbamas)manages the labourroom along with obstetricians(doctors).there are specific Midwives to support the antenatal(pregnancy )and postpartum period (postpregncy) with frequent visits and advices .they are mandatory and covered under govt. insurance.. (in kerala we really need such saviours to save the pregnt n newbie mothers from the 'upadeshi relatives and neighbours ) also there are few places where midwives solely conduct deliveries without doctors.(Geburthaus is the term)but there are certain criteria they hv to fullfill in order to function legally.(it must be very near to a tertiary hospital with all emergency facilites and all)..concept of midwifery is good but what is equally important to positive birth experience is the availbity of medical doctors if any complications(like( impending) uterine rupture -most common complication of VBAC) happens ,in order to do the necessary emergency management which a midwife can not obviously handle.Because each pregnancy awaits unpredictable complications which costs a life. I have seen few videos about BV.I am not aware the the extend of their facilities..bt I hope they are fully occupied to also deal the emergency situations. All the best to the team.😊
Wish I too had a father like you
