Education is in crisis. Children are losing out because there aren't enough teachers The Government missed its target for new secondary school teachers by 41 per cent this year. The gaps between teachers needed and trainees recruited are alarming - the Government missed its physics target by 83 per cent, modern foreign languages by 66 per cent and computing by 70 per cent. This means many children are taught by staff who are not qualified in the subject they are teaching. One in eight maths lessons is taught by a teacher not qualified in the subject. One in four teachers leaves the profession within three years of qualification - a third within five. Nearly one third of teachers who qualified in the last decade have quit. Special needs support assistants are leaving schools for jobs with higher pay, less hours and less stress. A teacher who started working in 2010 and made normal progress up the pay scale has lost over £64,000 in real terms. Teachers work more unpaid overtime than any other profession. Working weeks of 55-60 hours are commonplace. Primary class sizes are the highest in Europe. And secondary class sizes the highest since records began This crisis will only get worse if nothing is done to pay teachers properly for the essential workthey do. If ministers really do care about children's education, they should make time to negotiate a settlement on a fully funded pay rise. Teachers and support staff help build the nation's future and its most precious resource- our children. We don't want to be on strike. We want to be in the classroom, doing what we do best - teaching your children.

1 Union is the largest teacher union which has more than the majority of teachers of a union in it. Irrelevant point. Salaries are designed to attract but not to retain long term. Hence teachers train and work for a year or two then leave. Recruitment targets haven't been met for years, it's not pandemic related. In previous pandemic affected years, adjustments to exams have come very late making it difficult to deal with and adjustments have been made to grades after grades have been released, all under conservative watch. Giving formulas doesn't replace learning, and only accounts for a tiny amount of marks in non maths subjects, no marks in Humanities and English. Why the focus on formula sheets? If a clause is in the contract or bill, it's intended to be used. Schools stayed open during pandemic for students who needed to come in with a skeleton crew, less than 10, no need for the clause other than some other intent. Would you not want teachers like Mr Ashcroft to have a decent wage, not worry about the state of their finances and provide outlets and options for students?

"Hopin" "beginnin" there are more but as a construction worker with basically no education I'm obviously no where near as clever as the education secutary. I have dyspraxia and dyslexia but I can still pronounce words properly. Why can't you?

There are no competing rights between a biological male identifying as a woman claiming the right to use women's lavatories or changing rooms and the rights of biological females to deny them entry. None. The latter take precedence every time. It's not a complicated issue at all. Those who have complicated it are responsible for an assault upon the identity of women, exemplified by the fact that they're incapable of deciding whether or not they can have penises, and for the actual physical assaults by biological men against women that have indeed taken place in women's changing rooms and prisons. Anyone confused by that question has no business whatsoever in politics.
