Sometimes I stay home | Oak Mountain State Park
With the recent hurricane coming through the southeast, I decided to stay home this weekend and ride my local trails. It has been desperately dry here and the small amount of rain we received made for perfect conditions. My great friend Eugene talked me into doing a pretty long loop around the park and we got started early, like normal.

We recently went to the ONLY MTB training compound in Alabama and had a solid tour around the place. It has not been open long and I was super impressed with the level of commitment to build a great riding spot in an area not know for it! If you can, go and check it out yourself. They will be adding and tweaking as they go and I expect big things in the future. I already know for fact they're p...

I've been putting it off for a year because it's such a long drive, but I won't put it off again. Snowshoe Bike Park is worth the 10 hour drive! Unfortunately, I've just started back riding from a string of injuries including knee surgery just 3 weeks before this trip. Late Evening Lap With Brandon | RAW |

This footage was so dark I had to do a lot of work to make it watchable, but it's worth it to ride with @BrandonWMTB ! After doing some work on his bike he talked me into a late evening lap after I had already ridden 18 miles that day on my muscle bike, so I took the Eeb. As usual between the banter and riding, good times were had!

Nice video! I've still got to get out there soon.
Just tell me when!
@@shaneridesmtb will do!
Take the eeb to belcher 🙏
It’s on the list for sure
Eugene and I both had to cut out of a ride earlier one day so we were going to ride back together, it didn't take long to realize I wasn't going to be able to keep up with him. He's nice enough that he stopped for me a few times before I begged hime to go one so I could ease back and he could ride at his pace. Not sure the eBike would've even kept me close to him.
He goes well when he wants to, that’s for sure!
I kinda miss long xc rides. Kinda, lol!
Same. Exactly the same.
Need to get over to 'bama and try this one out. Rode Coldwater last weekend.
there is some good stuff in Bama, but all of it you have to earn hahaha Thanks for watching!
Another subscriber, your close to that 1k goal we all shoot for. Good video man!
Thank you sir! Coming right back at you too!
Dude!!! That is so awesome!! I'm glad you have the opportunity to test and be a part of what Niko's doing. So cool!
Thanks! I was just in the right place at the right time to get offered a test ride and I’m glad I was. Sweet ride!
Heck yea! Maybe you wont tear this one up! lol
Maybe. But I’m gonna find out for sure 😂
You just got a sub from here and from my personal account as well. Great content bro!
Thank you so much!
What a great opportunity glad you liked it.
Thanks! It was awesome!
Great review man! That looks like a solid bike!
Thanks! It’s solid for sure 👍
@@shaneridesmtb do you have any other videos coming out on this bike?
No sir. I just got to spin my laps on it yesterday.
Great video nice riding brother!!
Thank you!
Stellar video!
Thank you sir! It was fun
Amazing video as always! It seems like the video deserves more views
Thanks! I agree 😂
@@shaneridesmtb Loving these updates! 🔥

That one jump on Skyline where your buddy Zack went deep is a getter for real! The Shoe is gold though.
It’s soooo good, I can’t wait to go back!
Not sure why I've not been here yet, it looks ripping fast! Nice riding🤙
Thanks! Yeah go if you can, it’s a great place to ride !
Surely you hit Air Supply too?
I didn’t. I badly need to work my way thru it.
Hey Shane, I’m 6’3” 230. I spent about a year getting my suspension feeing good. Fox 36 on my YT Jeffsy. Max volume spacers and sub 90psi, 1 click on rebound and open compression. The biggest improvement was going to a coil shock. The coil provided massive improvement. Mark at Truly Spokin in Milton is a wizard, he may have helpful input. Hope you get it dialed
Thanks! I’m getting it pretty good now! I’m waiting on a custom coil shock build and that should be the final piece!
So glad to see you getting the suspension dialed. Nothing is better than finally getting to where you want to be when it comes to suspension. The Zeb did the sama thing for me on my ebike. And hey, we great to run into you at Jarrod's yesterday. I really appreciated the advice and the demo you did on the gap before the whoops. Now that I've got that in my head, I'll hit it myself soon. Thanks brother!
Ripping! You were slapping the piss out of some of those Simple Green turns
I was trying! That faster rebound changed the game up!
Dude, nice! You had good speed and were clearing most everything. I have to get back out there this weekend.
Thanks! I had a really good time and was happy to have working suspension haha
@mattpoe9391 It was great to meet you yesterday!
That bike sound is ASMR to my ears! Great riding Shane!!!
Thank you sir!
Glad I’m not the only one getting in trouble for pedaling on armuchee 😂
You silly fit people are killing me! 😂
I can finally "I recognize that trail"
It’s a good time
Great video 📹! Back in March I crashed out in the mud on my very first run down the Drop Out trail at the 2:45 point of this video. When I get a chance, I'll be going back for my redemption 😅!
I’ll be going often this fall and winter
@shaneridesmtb From this month until March of next year, I'm going to be all over the place! I think I'm going to start taking Monday off for the rest of this year.
@@ridingwithreggie that sounds amazing!
@@shaneridesmtb I might sprinkle a Monday and a Friday combo in there. It's time to ride!
Anyone want to plan a ride weekend somewhere?? Let's do it this fall when the temps are nice!
I’m down in October. What weekend and where at?
Also I’m going to Jarrod’s on September 27th!
Is that my invite???
@@shaneridesmtb if you’re free and able to go then it is 😂
@@offdaystv I'm down with October. It would be really cool to go somewhere new, but I'm good with whatever honestly
I'm glad you're sorted. My rear shock was dying and finally blew a few weeks ago. Lost some confidence in my tech ability because it took me too long to realize it was my shock not me. Now with a new coil set up on the rear of my ebike it's been an absolute game changer. So glad to see this new video.
It’s crazy how much it can ding your confidence. Glad your sorted
Jordan is the man! Always helpful.
He’s been so awesome to me!
Very jealous…that looked like a lot of fun.
Don't be jealous. Heal up and let's go, I've been asking you to go...
For the record, if you change your fork out in the bike park parking lot it will creak hahaha and yes, I think the dust got to me and I'm talking funny. I'm not sick I don't think, but I am a little stuffed up. Thanks for watching!
Video on a Sunday?? Sweet 👌
yeah I needed to make a video and some people have asked me where I've been. I do enjoy the editing too.
Looks like an awesome ride and you did a great job with it... I hope I can still be rising like that when I get older!!
Thanks man! I appreciate that
Haaa I have used “ I’m not skinny and I don’t ride skinnies” more than once thanks for highlighting this will check it out this fall
Maybe my buddy Darren can talk you into coming in September!
Thanks for coming out and filming man! Doing the best we can with what we've got! The place is only about 80 acres. Was originally hunting land, that was cut for timber a few years ago. We didn't realize the elevation change was as good as it was, and eventually ended up talking to Jody and decided to do something with the property. I've been driving up pretty frequently to help maintain some fields with the bushhog, and occasionally when it's needed I'll cut in a new trail or move some dirt around. It's come a long way, I need to get back on my rig and ride again.
It's a beautiful piece of property and I can't wait to see how it continues to develop! And yes, get on your bike!!!
Well done Shane. I need to check that place out.
Thanks! It’s a good time and not too far from home
Great video! That's a cool spot to check out. Lil Ricky looked interesting!
Thanks Reggie! Lil Ricky was fun, I can’t wait to hit it again
Hey great video, fun place, glad you made it out. Also, that shiny stuff is not any fun if you fall over and slide so stay up on two wheels. 😂😂😂
Thank you and good to know!
Dude what a great recap of that place!! Awesome!
Thanks! I guess I'll see y'all in Sept
I need to get back down there, havent been since they made that first jump line.
It’s gonna be a great place to ride this winter!
Looks like a pretty cool compound! Great recap of the place. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
The shinny stuff is a quartz called specular hematite.
That’s good to know! I had no idea but it looks cool!
@@shaneridesmtb back in the day people thought it was an indicator for gold. But it’s usually a very fine almost powder quartz. Silvery/ gold. In the early mornings or sunsets it’ll shine and looks like there’s a gold path. Pretty cool stuff.
@bullit4x I wondered how it would look on a night ride with lights
A lot of there area has that in the dirt. It’s mostly from the impact crater. The town of Wetumpka has info about it in the downtown square. It’s everywhere at Swayback Bridge trails
Have you considered buying a Quarq Shockwiz? Some bike shops even rent them out?
I have one. It’s not consistent at all. Since posting this, I have talked with some very knowledgeable people and I believe we’ve found a solution. Thanks!
Y'all are fun to watch, as usual. The "tabletop" at 4:20 😅. I finally see it! 🤦♀️
That’s what Rick was talking about 😆
Awesome video as always! It was good to see you and your crew at the park. Snowshoe is a different animal with the number of trails and some of them being so very long. I completely agree it's worth the long trip out.
It was awesome to see you guys! I really hate we didn’t get to ride together more, but I was on the struggle bus 😆 I’ll be up your way soon and I’ll let you know ahead of time
Love me some SnowShoe.... Great video Shane
Thanks Shawn! hey, and good job yesterday! I looked thru results last night after I heard what happened, sadly...
Just how big are you Shane? I'm 6 foot 240 pounds. My Salsa trail bike has FOX DPS shock and FOX 34 fork. Suspension sucked until I installed an MRP ramp control cartridge in the fork and put a Vorsprung suspension volume spacer in the DPS shock. With those I was able to dramatically drop initial pressure and restore small bump sensitivity that was unfound with the pressures needed to get sag right at my weight. My Fezzari LaSal Peak has the Rockshox Zeb 170 and Rockshox Ultimate Deluxe shock. Interestingly, it's the first air suspension that felt good after just setting sag by air pressure. No volume spacers needed unless Fezzari figured that out and set it up from the factory. Besides being heavy, I also ride heavy with a lot of weighting/unweighting and pumping rollers and berms. Doubt I shared anything you don't know already; but I hope you get it figured out to your satisfaction.
I'm 240lbs as well and ride heavy on the bike. Funny, I have a Timp Peak with the same Rockshox setup, basically the same bike as the La Sal but with a motor, and I can get it to work pretty good. AFTER adding some spacers and running was less sag on the shock than recommended. I just put my full Rockshox set up back on this frame with the exact settings as my ebike plus a progressive air can and rode it for the first time this morning. I think I'm going to get it in a decent spot. We'll see when I get to try it out on some rowdy faster trails.
you need a tuner with a shock dyno bec they put your frame kinematics into the dyno and see what settings and valving that will suit you best for the type of riding.. Trail labs or suspension syndicate can help you..
Thank you! This is what I'm looking for
Call up Craig at Avalanche and tell him what’s going on. Chances are he could hook you up or at least get you going in the right direction.
Awesome, that's what I'm looking for! Thank you!
Thanks, I just spent over 30 minutes on the phone with Craig! He described all my issues and we're finding a solution now.
@@shaneridesmtb Good news! As a 6’2” 240lb guy I have experienced the issues with mtb suspension. I know the trouble.
That trail looks sick! Also right there with you on hands hurting at snowshoe. Mine were dying after day 1
Mine were hurting after about 30 seconds. I've since found something wrong with the fork. I've got it off and am going to send it for a full rebuild/service.
I don't think you're out of the size at all brother but I do think you ride heavier than most people I've ridden with. I have a terrible time with setting mine up, and still don't have KSL right after almost two years...
I am heavy and I ride heavy. That’s a fact. I need a guru to help me 😂
