    Fun and relaxing video as always, personally I have never played Resident Evil, I don't like that kind of horror games, the most horror I can deal with is games like Little Nightmares and that's it lol You should check out AC Mirage as it is available on iPad, and if you like it you'll probably like the entire series starting from Syndicate, sadly those are not available on Apple's platform but I remember you saying you own an Xbox so you can certainly play them there.

      I like the stories of Resident Evil, I find them compelling, but I am not a fan of the gameplay. I realize the gameplay is meant to be slow and methodical, it is a horror game after all, but it just isn’t something I enjoy. I say, remove all the puzzles, let me move fast like in Destiny or Halo, and send thousands of zombies at me and let me mow them all down 😅

    Good to see a video from you, they're pretty nice and calm and informative, I did not know Apple doesn't show if a game supports controller or not, and honestly it doesn't surprise me, Apple have no clue about the gaming world the same way console companies and PC does, anyone with the least bit of effort can do better than Apple. Also this game looks like Cocoon (game made by one of the developers of Playdead's studio) they are famous for LIMBO and INSIDE, if you haven't played any of them I highly highly recommend playing all 3 of them, starting from LIMBO then INSIDE then Cocoon.

      Yes, I have played both. You are correct, they do give off the same sort of vibes, being a bit more casual, but compelling. Unlike Limbo and Inside, which are more puzzle based, Death’s Door has that action-adventure feel though, which is great for people like me who prefer it to the puzzling 😅 I do enough thinking through out the day, so when I sit down to play a game, thinking my way through a puzzle is the last thing I want.

    You should try Asphalt 9, it is a lot more fast paced and competitive than Speedstorm while offering a huge selection of cars and tracks... We already have rumors detailing everything about the Switch 2, we're expecting RTX 3050 level of performance which would be enough to play all games at 720p30 at the very least, with most titles being able to run at 1080p60 with DLSS-Q, it should be more powerful than current iPhones and around the performance of M4 iPads, what makes them popular and unlikely to die as a business even if they don't change anything is the price point, the cheapest M4 iPad cost like $1000 meanwhile Switch consoles cost like $300, that and the fact you don't need anything to play the game aside from the Switch, meanwhile an iPad needs a third party controller and that would quickly become less portable, so basically Nintendo is pretty much safe even if they don't port their games to other platforms, they would certainly make more money doing so, but in the long run it is likely to make them lose money because games on mobile are easier to emulate on PC and Mac and there goes the need to have s Switch out the window, so they'll likely keep their games on the Switch only for max protection.

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest Месяц назад

      Yes. I have played the Asphalt series. There is that new one, or expansion, not sure what it is, called Unite and I want to give it a try. I don’t disagree with Nintendo consoles being more affordable, but the cheapest device is the device people already own, and damn near everyone already has a smart phone that is capable of playing these modern games. Sure an iPhone or iPad may be more expensive than a new Switch, but consumers likely already have those devices.

      No doubt. Young people today grow up playing with powerful hardware and displays capable of super high frame rates and resolutions, so that is the bar they have set for games now. When a game plays at only 60fps and 1080p, that is considered subpar. Certainly helps when you grew up playing games at much lower frame rates and resolutions in the 80s and 90s, which had no bearing on whether a game was fun or not.

      Should have no noticeable effect due to how efficient the M chips are. So, potentially, you will get better performance while not plugged in for extended periods, but your PC will also die at some point 😅

    8:08 I'm curious about this, because I don't see any way that this couldn't be used for anything involving typing. Do you email people for your work? If that's the case, you can simply send your drafts as an email and then revise it vy copy pasting to a new email on your pc or laptop. I can see how it wouldn't be useful for live tech support such as chat, but since you didn't mention what your work is(which is well within your rights to privacy) it's difficult to imagine any way that a tool designed for writing couldn't be integrated into a workflow involving typing words.

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest 2 месяца назад

      As I mentioned in my other comment, there are many types of writers and many types of writing professions. This device was created with novelists in mind, and that is who it caters too. Nothing wrong with that. As someone who does a lot of diverse writing activities, this device works for some and not others, and that was what I was trying to convey.

    • @RebeccaLoran
      @RebeccaLoran 2 месяца назад

      @@ScholarsRest Sure, but I mean you can use it to write essays/articles/blog posts. I am fine with your personal choice, but I just fail to see why it couldn't be used for literally anything involving writing. You can do blog posts with a manual typewriter or handwriting as part of the drafting process. Not every tool has to include 100% of the tools to edit and publish. You can do that later and it's been a natural part of writers' process from draft to publish since people had to manually handwrite books.

  • @RebeccaLoran
    @RebeccaLoran 2 месяца назад

    To people worrying aboutut technical issues with the software, there are periodic software updates that fix problems. The 1.20.0 patch just came out and at least for the Alpha it is a SIGNIFICANT improvement, reducing lag, making the font much easier to read, and I bet reducing the issues that I and others hwve had with drafts randomly getting deleted if you don't explicitly hit the 'send' button. Honestly I think it's a good habit to frequently make backups, and I don't think putting thousands upon thousands of words into a single page is ever a good idea, as it is jst too much text to work on when editing. So I have found myself developing good work habita by frequently archiving past work when backed up to multiple platforms including email, splitting sections of a work into multiple pages of drafts so if anything were to be somehow completely lost despite my frequent backups, the most I would lose would be 200~1000 words rather than 10,000 or more as some people were complaining about. While the patch updates can potentially resolve these issues, it is ultimately up to the writer to develop strong work habits, and you will thank yourself for this, as it will carry over to any other input devices you may use such as handwritten work with pen and paper as well as typewritten work with a manual typewriter. Just make it work.

  • @RebeccaLoran
    @RebeccaLoran 2 месяца назад

    1:50 I don't agree with that at all. It is designed as a drafting tool, period. It isn't designed to edit. The designers explicitly state that. It backs up your work to postbox and can connect to google drive, and I email a copy iteratively for each draft. Then you can boot up your pc or laptop and work on edits, possibly going back to draft rewrites of sections or the entire work in the same way that I would use my manual typewtiter to draft. You NEED to retype or 'transcribe' the physical drafts(or use OCR software if it is extremely high volume and you procrastinated or have an extremely short time constraint) to then be edited for publishing in word processing software. This idea that any single device should be an all-in-one solution is the reason Astrohaus developed these devices. It is ONLY for drafting.

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest 2 месяца назад

      I am a researcher and I cannot use this device to write a research paper. Every line I write for a research paper involves constant referencing and rewording to ensure what I am saying is supported by the literature and is conveyed in the best possible way. So a device like this does not work for those purposes. Could I use this device to free write personal thoughts on the research? Sure. But drafting a research paper itself is not done that way, it is done meticulously, line-by-line, sometimes word-by-word, and involves a significant amount of rewording and rephrasing. I suspect there are many such writing situations where this device would not be an effective tool. Another example is technical writing. I am a technical writer and I often need to draft technical manuals and engineering documents, which involves working closely with subject matter experts and best trying to convey their knowledge to lay audiences. Again, this device cannot be used for that type of drafting as it involves significant back-and-forth and rewording and rephrasing. So what I said at 1:50 stands, “the limitations of the hardware … would present some difficulties.”

    • @RebeccaLoran
      @RebeccaLoran 2 месяца назад

      @@ScholarsRest Sounds like you have a good system for yourself. But I challenge you to try to separate the drafting process from the editing process. Draft something up, the rewrite several times. Rewriting is a huge part of writing, so you might end up getting better quality work despite having to work harder. But don't put that on anyone else. Just because you have your own workflow doesm't mean everyone else works that way. People have been drafting and re-drafing since well before the typewriter was invented. It sounds like your current workflow is very set in stone, and it isn't worth it for you to change it. That's perfectly fine. But I'm sure there are plenty of researchers who work very differently than you who would love to use this device and improve their productivity. It would have been better in the video it you had explained it that way, but I was just bothered by someone claiming a tool specifically designed for drafting text was accused of being only targeted at novelists, when the creators of the products explicitly market it as a drafting tool to eliminate distractions with writing. It's kind of unfair to Astrohaus and also misses the entire point of what it's made for. It isn't meant to replace your wordprocessing software on a PC/laptop. It's not designed for editing. It's a shift in mindset that people today have a difficult time making.

  • @RebeccaLoran
    @RebeccaLoran 2 месяца назад

    There is an interesting phenomenon I noticed about starting to use a new device for writing that's not necessarily tied to the device itself. When I started using my manual typewriter(1948 Royal Quite De Luxe portable manual) I noticed that for awhile I would end up writing ABOUT how it feels so refreshing to use it, how it felt, how it could free me from distraction, etc. It feels funny because it's like I can write more but it's as if I'm cursed to ONLY write about how much it'll help me write! I felt the same way when I got my fountain pen and dotted line bullet journals, and it feels the same now that I got my Freewrite Alpha, which I refer to as my digital typewriter. I think it's just how it starts. It's up to us to push through that and eventually we become 'seasoned' or 'attuned' to the writing method, and then we get to the meat and potatoes of our work as writers, unlocking our 'true' writing.

    • @ScholarsRest

Lighter roasts can get almost tea like with gentler, more floral or fruity flavors and much less bitterness. To down the bitterness tho, you can also try lowering the temp by like 4C or so. Darker roasts don’t need very high temps, around 90C is fine. Lighter roasts can stand higher temps up to 100C for very light roasts. Best of luck!

      I live in a relatively small town, but I did locate a nearby coffee roaster, so I am going to give them a try next. I am quite confident that whatever I get will end up being better than my first experience with a store-bought dark roast 😅

    • @EusebiusAT
      @EusebiusAT 2 месяца назад

      @@ScholarsRest yeah, pretty much anything will be. The reason why I think quality matters more if you want a light roast is because of exactly the same thing you mentioned in your video. Light roasts are lighter and more delicate, like some teas, and so if the raw coffee isn't very good or fresh, or if the roasting is mishandled, that lightness and delicacy won't put a spot light on any interesting or unique flavors, it'll just be bland or have off flavors. The roasting profile doesn't intrinsically give you any specific type or quality of coffee, it can only dull or highlight the flavors that are already in the bean. That's why the quality of the raw product is the most important. Specialty roasters are not really good because of the roasting, it's mostly because of the sourcing of the raw product.

    Keyboards and controllers are a thing of the older generation. All the kids growing up get a touch phone. You mostly stick with what your first was and its had to break that. It's cheaper for a kid to have a phone then a PC or console. Just look at the market.

    • @ScholarsRest

      The video is not about games not supporting controllers, it is about games not clearly indicating controller support. There are many games with controller support on the App Store, but the developers are not indicating this. Also, young people today do use controllers and keyboards to play games on console and PC. So those peripherals are not going anywhere.

    Like yourself I have an Xbox Series X|S controller which works flawlessly with GRID Legends. However a game like Rise of the Tomb Raider released in and never updated since 2018 (before the release of the Xbox Series X|S) has no Out-of-the-box support for the controller. I had to manually copy the relevant .plist file from GRID Legends into Rise of the Tomb Raider. At this point the controller works flawlessly. At present time, the only way to know what gamepads are supported is to visit each games support website. Having a section of each game's page on the Mac App Store dedicated to showing what gamepads are supported would be very beneficial to the customer.

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest 2 месяца назад

      It baffles me why this isn’t a standard in the App Store. Apple provides developers with a way to indicate controller support and the developers are opting not to use it. I would be curious to see the interface developers have when submitting applications to the App Store. Is the option to indicate of controller support hidden somewhere? And many of these developers are probably use to submitting to other platforms where indication of controller support is not required, such as on console.

    • @AlexanderLindo
      @AlexanderLindo 2 месяца назад

      @@ScholarsRest Apple can easily enforce it but due to the lack in abundance of native AAA games on Mac App Store I assume that is why they have been more lax in ensuring that developers explicitly display gamepad support when publishing their game on the Mac App Store. All games on Steam with controller support explicitly state which gamepads are supported on game by game basis. But Steam has another issue and that is a bloated website and an app optimized for Windows, providing no "proper" way to hide Windows-only titles from being displayed on Mac.

    Is it just me or Apple Arcade no longer works with any controllers in macOS 14? I am currently on macOS 14.5, with M3. My switch pro, ps4, and Xbox One S controllers are all synced and recognized by macOS, but none of the inputs are recognized in any of the Apple Arcade games. Ironically, the games do recognize the controller connected, in so much the buttons layout change correctly to currently active controller, but again no button press is recognized. I then opened Steam, and everything works perfectly with Steam menus, button mapping, and gaming inputs work perfect, then on Apple Arcade still nothing... Glad I didn't pay for the service, and may not even use all 3 months trial...
