John 2:13-17 | Why did Jesus clear the Temple?

Daniel 1:1-2 | Introduction and looking at the results of Great Grandfathers sin
This passage is so rich in meaning. When you mentioned the merchants making it so much harder to access God, it also brought to mind how some preach a gospel of works, thereby blockading the way to the Savior. I'm sure that also angers God!
I totally hadn't thought of that passage that way. But I totally agree.
Interesting that Jesus would promote the drinking of wine when numerous studies rank alcohol as the most harmful drug overall (even worse that crystal meth or heroin) due to the harm it causes both to individuals and to society. Excessive alcohol consumption was also a problem in Roman times (Emperor Domitian ended up passing laws limiting wine production). I had heard that wine was preferred to water in ancient times because the alcohol kills the germs. This is not true, evidently. Wine usually has no more than 17% alcohol, but you need at least 60% alcohol for any significant sterilisation to occur. There is a Polish vodka that has 96% alcohol, but I would suggest that you wouldn't last long drinking too much of that stuff. I have to admire your persistence, even though you mostly get less than 100 views on your videos. If you'd rather I didn't post these (I will confess) somewhat cynical comments, then just say so and I'll leave you alone.
When God puts something on your heart to do. The current view count really doesn't matter. It is my job to do my part, and that includes research on how to do it better. The rest I leave in God's hands. I also have another channel that one day I will have the health and strength to get back to, but what I am learning here will help on that channel so much. Like this style only needs light editting. But that other one is a 'cooking with injuries' and any editting I learn here will make the cooking so much more interesting. I read all the comments, I truely believe that when I post the video I am putting out my opinion. And the comment section gives the right to respond. But I also thing there is a big difference between in person where it can be a conversation that everyone watching can see it is both sides respecting each other. As oppose to online once there is a few back and forths it can read as a 'trying to win the arguement.' So I figure if my main response is just a long the lines of what I said in the video, it feels like I am 'trying to win the arguement.' Instead of the video is my opinion and interpretation of the passage. And your response is your opinion of the passage and of what I said.
@@DailyDevotionwithBelinda When I left the Christian faith (many years ago), I started wondering if events from the past that I had assumed were supernatural, in fact were not supernatural, then what really happened? That led me into getting really interested in history, archaeology and Biblical scholarship. (Previously I was purely a science and maths nerd). I am interested in going where the evidence leads. One of the things that "led me astray" was attempting to write my own harmonised gospel (not realising, at the time, that numerous scholars and theologians had previously attempted the task and invariably failed). Sure, I like to win an argument, but I'm more interested in getting to the truth (in terms of having solid evidence to back it up) and in looking for solutions that are good for humanity, both individually and collectively (also backed up with good evidence). Most of your videos, I'm not really interested in commenting on (and I have no idea why RUclips started putting your videos in my feed), but, I must confess, I do have a bit of a "bee in my bonnet" when it comes to alcohol consumption. The evidence overwhelming points to it being really harmful, so if anyone is promoting alcohol consumption (including Jesus), I'm not going to stay silent. I am really sorry to hear that you are having physical difficulties. I wish you all the best in getting over them soon. Your video production quality looks good to me. I probably won't be hassling you with the cooking channel, it's not really my thing. (Also I have diabetes and have to be really careful about what I eat). All the best with it anyway.
@@DailyDevotionwithBelinda One other thing: I think that if you elaborate on what's in your video, it would not necessarily be construed as "just trying to win the argument". Commenters who are just trying to win, will typically start getting angry and hurling insults at the other person (if they thing they are losing). If there is anything in my comments that you perceive as "just trying to win the argument", please point it out and I'll try and avoid it. You probably have a similar state of mind to mine before my faith started to slip. Then I discovered a lot of things that I was previously unaware of. I had a fairly sheltered upbringing (I was a missionaries' kid). (Although if we did start getting angry with each other and hurling insults in the comments under your videos, it might help your view count).
Belinda! So nice to see you back here. Thanks for this message, it is very timely in my case and I will definitely be pondering it carefully!
Thanks, really lovely to be chatting with you again as well. Unfortunatly it was a bad winter of sickness here in Melbourne, Australia, In which I unintentional played pokemon with. (Try to catch them all). Love when these random ones are timely.
It's clear that the early Israelites were polytheistic. For example, the first of the 10 commandments is, "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me", not "I am the only god". There are plenty of similar examples from the earlier parts of the Hebrew Bible. (There is also plenty of archaeological evidence to back this up). The divinity of Jesus is an interesting one. One of the earliest passages we have on that is Romans 1v4. It seems to indicate that Jesus acquired his divinity at his resurrection. The gospel of Mark, according to the vast majority of scholars, was written some time shortly after AD 70 (or around 40 years after Jesus was executed). Mark 1v9-11 indicates that Jesus acquired his divinity at his baptism. Scholars also generally agree that Matthew was written 10 or so years after Mark. Matthew 1v18-24 indicates Jesus acquired his divinity at conception (by the Holy Spirit, without Mary's consent). When Luke was written is a matter of debate. Some scholars argue that it was written at a similar time to Matthew, others that it was written around the turn of the century. However the first two chapters of Luke tell a similar story to Matthew (as far as Jesus's divinity goes) in that Jesus acquired his divinity with his conception. (With Luke, at least the angel gives Mary some warning about it, if not exactly asking for her consent). It is generally agreed that John was written last and, as you stated, he has Jesus being divine from the "beginning". This all sounds like the proverbial fisherman's tale. It gets more extreme with each retelling. One last point, we certainly do not know that the gospel of John was written by John the disciple of Jesus. He would have been long dead by the time it was written. In fact we have no idea who wrote any of the gospels. They were all anonymous. The names Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were dreamt up by Irenaeus, an early church father, some time in the mid-second century. His reasoning for assigning those names was dubious.
Paul's eye condition was not The Thorn in the flesh. The Bible clearly reveals what the thorn in the flesh is it was a messenger of Satan not a disease.
Nice analysis ✌
Thanks :)
The main thing that strikes me about the beginning of John 1 is how different it is to the other gospels. In Mark, Jesus seems to obtain His divinity at His baptism. In the other two, He seems to gain His divinity at conception. In John, we have the "Word" being divine from the "beginning". Presumably the Word is Jesus, although John (the gospel or the Baptist) doesn't explicitly say that (although I will grant it is strongly implied). There are a couple of things I can agree with you on. One is that the "Ring of Steele" in Melbourne was rough. I was not (and am not) concerned about any quiver in anyone's voice, but I was (and am) concerned about infection rates. If Victoria's were a lot lower than any other state, then I would have thought it was all fair enough (I didn't want Covid). The trouble is that is wasn't. It seems there was no gain from our Ring of Steele. The other thing I can agree with you on is that it is hard to understand that God is both all-powerful and all-loving. If that is true, why does He allow so much suffering? The "Problem of Evil" has been a major factor in many people abandoning religion. Sorry to get technical on you, but at 5:40 you talk about positive and negative atoms. Atoms don't have a charge. If something atom-like has a charge, it is called an ion. You also don't have positive and negative magnets. Magnets have north and south poles, and poles that are the same will repel (so you were kind of close). I think the force that "holds it all together" you were looking for is the strong nuclear force (it holds the nucleus of atoms together). Sorry, I'm going to classify you "hearing the voice of God" with Muslims hearing the voice of Muhammad or Elvis fans seeing Elvis walking around, after he had died. (A little word of advice, with that sort of declaration, I'd stay well away from the 1st of April, unless it really was an April Fool's Day joke). As for the love of God/Jesus, it comes across to me like Jesus is a stalker. In John 3v16 (sorry, I know you haven't gotten to there yet), it seems that if I don't "believeth in Him", then I'll "perish". I take that to mean Jesus is saying, "I love you, but if you don't love me back, I torture you forever". Clearly I think your understanding of these things is way off-the-mark, but you seem like a decent person and I wish you well. Enjoy your eternity in Heaven (or should it be the New Earth? I get confused). Anyway, it seems I'll be spending eternity in the Sixth Circle of Hell, in terrible pain amongst burning tombs (according to Dante anyway).
Amen! I was honestly a bit afraid I'd hear something resembling "the male needs to (unilaterally) lead, the female needs to (unilaterally) follow." I can say I don't like it one bit, whether it's dancing or a relationship, when my partner just stands there like a bump on a log, and I basically have to drag her around. By the way, Australian ballroom sounds very exhausting compared to American! 😓 We have a few of those crazy dances, but we also have slower ones like foxtrot and non-Viennese waltz, plus a slow spot dance called (nightclub) 2-step. Those are about all I'm in shape to do these days :P
haha, Yer it is the sturggle that I am having with the titles to go. ummm how to not make people scaried about what they might here. Ohh I totally agree with you. God gave us women a brain, so lets use it and not stand there like a log. hahaha, well I might of talked it up just a little bit for the sack of story telling. We also have a balance between those crazy ones and slower ones like the foxtrot. I just offen sat the foxtrot out. And I might of explained the Viennese Waltz, because I have had many people try and tell me that ballroom dancing isn't a sport. To which I always respond. How is running backwards, in heals, while spinning and attached to other person (to all dancers aka Viennese Waltz) not a sport. Also sorry for the delayed reponse again, I ended up getting a bad cold again.
Congrats on 100 subs! And thanks for sharing about what you've been going through in terms of video timing and motives and so on. We all have those times of wrestling. Over here I took the week off, was able to spend some good time with God and recognize some of my fears in making social connections. I am finally feeling ready to get back into the swing of things. Thanks for being part of that, with your insights and guidance!
Thanks!!! Thank you for sharing what your going through. Over the last few years I have been meeting a lot of people that are stuggling with fears around social connections. It really is more common than people think. Glad to hear that your ready to get back into the swing of things. My only encourgement is to remember that each little step forward is progress and no need to get upset with yourself if the progress isn't as fast as you think it could be. Pushing yourself a little bit into the uncomfortable zone each time is amazing.
Thanks Belinda for your studies ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words ❤
Belinda, it's so good to have you back! Like the first commenter, I have had struggles here too. Lately I have been "leaning on my own understanding" and it has led to complete chaos. I'm getting vibes from both this video and another one, that I need to deliberately set aside time to pray and sort things out. Thanks for posting.
Thanks :), so glad that I have finally found a work around for the sound issue I had. Now time to catch up on doing the light edits on the videos that where already recorded. Ohh I so understand that place of leaning on ones own understanding. That's what was happening to me which lead to this video, I just really wasn't as peace working through the book of Daniel at this point in time. The video that hopefully I am organised to edit today and release tomorrow will explain what was going through my mind. And that I am going to finish up chapter 2 of Daniel, then switch over to John. So excited that your getting vibes to deliberately set time aside to sort it out with God.
This hit me real deep, this what I've been praying about recently and has been causing me trouble. Thank you for this video Belinda.

Hi Belinda! It's been a while, just wanted you to know you're not forgotten. Hope you're doing ok!
Hey :) Hope your doing well as well. I have a few videos recorded. The only reason why there not up is because I've been fighting with the computer (and losing). The editing software was crashing every 2 seconds. Actually every 2 seconds. :s I only do light editting more on the sound because in the raw video my mic picks up a lot of background static. When praying about it, the thoughts that just kept coming to mind is, there is more than one way to reach your goal, so if one way doesn't work try another.

I'm embarrassed to say, I completely missed the fact that God was the one guiding Daniel. It was good that you had time to meditate on the verse and point that out. Keep playing those board games :)

Excellent and balanced study. Context, Conditions and Promises. Good stuff
Thanks, I like that way of summing it up. Context, Condition and Promise. That sounds like a title right there.
Wonderful study! Most of the explanations I've heard have been at one extreme or another. Either "100% yes, let's name it and claim it," or "you are not the exiles, stop sticking your nose where it doesn't belong." I really like this balanced way of seeing God's truth in context. I totally get that, by the time these video's go up I've watched them through about 3 times. I even convicted/encouraged myself with this one. For the same reason. The almighty power that controls all our lives here on RUclips, namely The Algorithm, thinks your videos would be of interest to me. So, for what it's worth, here is my commentary on this video. Firstly let me say that being a member of that half of the population that could potentially get the snip, I fully endorse the notion that circumcision is unnecessary and should be discouraged (if not banned outright). The group that Paul was having a swipe at was probably the Ebionites or the Nazarenes (or both). These Jewish Christian groups ended up being part of the Jewish diaspora that resulted from the various Jewish-Roman wars. They were eventually absorbed or suppressed by Gentile Christianity and, of course, it was Gentile Christianity that chose the New Testament canon, so we know who's side they were on. (I can also understand the Gentile Christians who didn't want to get the snip). I would point out that Jesus said to be saved we need to follow the commandments (at least according to the synoptics: Mat 19v16-30, Mrk 10v17-31 and Luk 18v18-30). Also, at 5:34 when you quote Jesus as saying "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind", this is in response to the question, "Which commandment in the law is the greatest?" Here Jesus seems to be quoting Deuteronomy 6v4-5, which is a commandment from the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible/Old Testament). So we do need to follow that commandment, but not the one about circumcision. The problem is we are not given any criteria for deciding which ones we need to follow and which ones we don't. This lack of clarity has resulted in a lot of human misery (like justifying slavery or the jailing of homosexuals). An aside about Deuteronomy is that some scholars (Charles Freeman being one, from memory) think that Jeremiah wrote Deuteronomy. I know it's completely irrelevant, but I find it fascinating.
lol, the RUclips algorithms can def be interesting. I actually have a few different youtube accounts so that I am suggested a wide range of different content. In those passage you pointed out, I don't think that was Jesus saying that you are saved through the law. I think Jesus is pointing out that they have heard the way to be saved is through the law. Then Jesus goes on to point out what they need to be to be saved is follow Him. But He (Jesus) first points out an area where there not following the law, so that they don't think that they are upholding the law like they throught they where. To show that they cannot be saved through there own actions. Yes you are completly right when I am quoting Jesus saying the greatest commandment is to Lord the Lord your God.... it is a response that Jesus gives in answering what is the greatest Jewish law for them to follow.
Well, I'm just going by a literal interpretation of what Jesus apparently said. He does go on to say, "Sell all that you own and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me". That seems, to me anyway, what you do to get a bonus (i.e. treasure in heaven) on top of receiving eternal life. There is also a bit of an apparent discrepancy between Jesus explicitly picking out "honour your father and mother" as a commandment that should be followed, then talking about leaving family to follow Him. (It's especially stark in passages like Luke 14v26).
My memory did fail me. Richard Elliott Friedman is the scholar I was trying to think of who is keen on the idea of Jerimiah (and/or his scribe Baruch) being the Deuteronomist. Charles Freeman is a historian who tends to cover more recent (post-classical) history.
Actually the Deuteronomic writings (Deuteronomy through to Kings as well as Jeremiah) and how they came to be written is not completely irrelevant. The Davidic covenant in 2 Samuel 7 is the only Tanakh covenant that doesn't have a qualifier. (Well, there is the Noahic covenant, but there is not much danger that God won't stick to that one). God promises David that his line will last forever and the Israelites will be "disturbed no more" by their enemies. The overthought of Zedekiah and the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians around 586 BC left the Deuteronomist(s) with a bit of a problem. Some scholars (Richard Elliott Friedman included) have suggested that this inspired the Deuteronomist(s) to move towards the idea of a messiah in the line of David to get over this problem (e.g. Jeremiah 33v14-26 is regarded as being post-exilic).
When it comes to truth, I would argue that in modern Western societies there have been two spectacularly successful ways of determining the truth. One is our court system (in the most part deriving from English common law) and the other is the scientific method. Another second-tier method is the techniques developed by historians and literary scholars to determine historical truth. This more of a probabilistic determination of truth (i.e. what most likely happened). Most secular scholars do not think Ephesians was written by Paul. At least the "Paul" who wrote Ephesians wasn't the Paul who wrote the uncontested epistles of Paul (Rom, 1 Cor, 2 Cor, Gal, Php, 1 Ths, Phm). One reason they give is the length of sentences. Ephesians uses long sentences compared to the uncontested epistles (although I will grant that 6v14 is not a particularly long one). If Ephesians is in fact a forgery (in that the author is pretending to be someone they are not), it would indicate they didn't have much respect for the truth. I'm not sure that your analogy with the Roman soldier's belt really works. The cingulum militare, as they called it, was more of a decorative item. It seems to have been of little practical value, but may have been used to indicate rank. The roman soldier's short sword (the gladuis) was usually suspended using a strap that went over the shoulder (they called it a balteus, but it has been known as a baldric in more recent times). One thing you did get right was indicating a soldier drawing their sword with their right had from their righthand side. Because soldiers carried a huge shield (a scutum) having the sword on their left side would have been difficult. Roman officers wore their swords on the left side (officers didn't carry shields).
The thing that strikes me about this passage is the way the author seems to be sneering at the gentiles. This, to me, does not sound like the Paul of the 7 uncontested epistles of Paul (Rom, 1 Cor, 2 Cor, Gal, Php, 1 Ths, Phm), particularly the way Paul talks about gentiles in the first two chapters of Galatians. I've got to admire your persistence in making these videos despite not getting much response. Your video quality is quite good. I had no problem understanding the audio, but, in this video anyway, you had a strange flickering in the lighting that I did find a bit distracting. Anyhow, if you're not interested in responses from non-believers, just let me know and I'll leave this channel alone.
Hi Bob, I love having a response from someone that is a non-believer. I truely think that as a society we need to get back to a place where we can have a health different of opinion. Where we can listern to each other and hear why we believe what we believe. At the moment the only comments I am deleting is when the comments requires an argumentative response. Or where I feel like a comment will most likely spark an argumentative arguement. Interesting perpective on seeing it as the author sneering at the gentiles. I'll have to go back and re-read Ephesians to see what my thoughts are around that. Agree the strange light flicker does bother me as well. I have been trying to google have to fix it. I finally think I found the answer yesterday and how to turn of the auto focus off on the camera, which I think will resolve the light flicker issue. The setting was in a werid location. But I found this after fliping to the rear camera and the rear camera flickers zooming in and out as an zuto focus each time I move my arms. And this was found out after I recorded the next three videos. So today is now going to be spent tring to google how to fix up those records. That you for the feed back on the sound. I do appreciate hearing that you had no problems understanding the audio.
@@DailyDevotionwithBelinda I notice that you are a fellow Aussie. I must confess I didn't pick that up when listening to you the first time (although it may have helped in understanding you). I found that in the US, they often had trouble understanding my accent (not so much in the UK or NZ). I think that, here in Australia, we are pretty good at not letting religion or politics divide us (not so much in the US). All the best in sorting out the flickering.
@@BobHutton , lol I am the same. When someone is Aussie it takes me a moment to pick up the accent. Or more pick up that I'm not hearing an acccent. There is also a chance I am toning my accent down, as at different times I have spent a lot of time around people who had recently arrived in Oz. So when I start recording I am actively thinking that I am normally a fast talker and people tell me they have no idea what I just said. And how I have adjusted my accent when talking to someone who has just arrived in Oz. I'm unable to comment on how other countries manage the divide in opinions as I have only see what social media tells me. The individual people I have met from different cuturals have been respectful to not let politics divide Thanks, re flickering
@@DailyDevotionwithBelindaI think it's pretty clear that the US has some serious issues when it comes to social division. Some of it seems to be rubbing off on Australia a bit, which is disappointing. One big advantage we have though, is our voting system. Our preferential voting system allows for subtleties and for minor parties to have some influence. This is unlike the US system that is completely binary, in that you have to be a Democrat or a Republican and that's it. There are, no doubt, many reasons why us Aussies are, in the most part, pretty relaxed, however I would argue that our voting system has helped (a lot). Sorry I'm probably getting a bit off-topic for you here.
