Instead of chasing that dragon I went looking for different RPGs. D&D's strength and appeal is its nostalgia, not itd mechanics. We're close to the same age, and I loved both the Metzer books and AD&D. I dabbled in AD&D 2nd edition before leaving the game in '96 or so. But since then I've discovered all of the RPGs from the same Golden Age of RPGs that aren't just D&D clones. I am talking games for a myriad of genres, horror, supers, sci-fi, modern, in addition to fantasy, and every publisher had a magazine that just wasn't a house organ for their own games. The games didn't insult the players' intelligence or insist they adopt the publishers' politics. Games like Call of Cthulhu 5E, Champions 4E, Chaosium's BRP/Runequest, Cyberpunk 2020, Traveller, Twilight 2000, and GURPS 3E. So if you're looking for an experience beyond basic fantasy give them a look.

I really wish Disney would make any of the "Muppets" Characters as Meet-and-Greet Characters in any of their Theme Parks!
