Ski-Doo Adventure and Wild Game Lunch: Big Lake, Alaska
We took two machines out on this adventure, a Ski-Doo Skandic and Expedition. Both are super capable machines for backcountry adventures in the winter. We started in Big Lake, Alaska and made it just shy of Susitna River. Low snow at this time of year prevented us from making it all the way to the river... Next time! We stopped for lunch and had an awesome time cooking up some blacktail deer meat. I harvested this deer just a week before this adventure in Kodiak, Alaska. Videos of that trip are soon to come!

We finally have a bedroom finished and ready for a bed! The upstairs of the cabin has come so far. It looks awesome! It was a cold one at the cabin this weekend, seeing temps at and below 0°F. That didn't stop us though, we got what we came to get done finished. The snowmobile ride up to the ridgeline was the icing on the cake. The trail we used is a hidden gem as far as I'm concerned. We had a wonderful trip to the Amalfi Coast. We filled an evening with the path of lemons, which is a short scenic walk between Maiori and Minori. I at a wurstel pizza, which is a pizza with hotdogs and french-fries. It was way better than it sounds. We spent a full day adventuring the path of the gods. That was a really awesome hike. Well worth doing if you are looking for an active activity. ...

Darian's birthday weekend adventure was a really fun trip. Good food, good company, and fun adventure. Matt ran the camera the whole weekend and did a great job capturing the journey. The Dale Clemons cabin is just outside of Seward Alaska. It's roughly 2-3 miles to hike on the winter trail. Once there you have awesome views of resurrection Bay and mountains that surround you.

Exploring Alaska on Four-Wheelers: Petersville, Alaska
Great video! We saw the Northern Lights here in Oregon twice this year. Once in May, a spectacular show, and once in October, a ho hum show. The awesome thing, is my wife and I flew to Juneau in October and saw the Northern Lights there too. We went up to the Mendenhall Glacier and it was a show! To see the Northern Lights in Oregon and Alaska the same month was a lifetime experience! We were not expecting them in Juneau, it was cloudy and rainy the whole time, except for a break in the clouds that night! Great video! Our July fishing trip to Alaska can't come soon enough!
I love how pumped you are about your trip. That's what it's all about! Thanks for sharing your stories. I love hearing from people like you that are engaged and have a similar passion for the outdoors.
Hello again from Oregon. Still researching where to fish for our July trip. We don't fly fish, we use bait casters. What are the best lures would you suggest for pinks and chum? I know we will do the Kenai floss fishing thing for sockeye.
You can floss with your bait casters as well. Same thing that you do for sockeye. I'll put out a video that shows this in the spring to get you dialed in for the season. If you are casting and retrieving, any spinner/blue fox/ pixie/ vibrax can work. You can also use kwik fish or mag lips. I've seen people catch them on nearly any color, but I personally would only fish hues of pink/orange/red as it best looks like eggs being released. Salmon love eating eggs. It's an instinctual thing for fish to eat eggs that have been kicked out of the redd. It is very popular to float eggs on a drift under a slip bobber or weight a spin and glow with eggs for bait as well. In my experience, if you are coming up late July, using eggs in bird creek gives you the best chance of finding a silver.
@wickedalaska Can't wait for your video! We use slip bobber here for salmon as well. Last part of outgoing tide and the last part of incoming tide is best. For some reason, slack tide low and high, the bite dies here. I troll the tidewater sections of the Nestucca and Siletz, and the freshwater near Portland on the Columbia River. Although the Columbia gets the largest king salmon run, they are hard to get to bite because the river is so wide, and you have to find them, they don't follow the bank like sockeye. And when they arrive, water temp is typically 68 to 70 degrees, hard to get them to bite in bath water.
New subscriber here from Oregon. Great channel and video! Coming up July 2025 to fish reds on the Kenai. Planning on hitting either Bird Creek or Resurrection Creek on the way over from Anchorage. We have never fished them before. Do you know the salmon limit on Resurrection Creek in Hope? Plane lands at noon, so trying to catch a few before we get to Soldotna to check it out. I wouldn't mind catching some chrome pink or chum to try eating or get an early silver. We get kings, coho, and, steelhead where I am in Oregon, although not near the numbers of fish. Hours between bites here. A couple times a year, the stars align just right and you get your limit of 2 in a day. But way less salmon numbers here. The Columbia Ruver has good numbers, but the fish are spread out, tough to catch.
Greetings! I hope you have an awesome trip when you come up. I'm sure you will. July is a great time to be in Alaska, especially if you are looking for fishing opportunities. For reds, look at previous years fish counter data on the kenai river. You'll notice a gap between the first and second run of fish. You never know when the second run of reds is going to push up into the river, but looking at previous years data can give you an idea of what to expect. Salmon limits change daily depending on how healthy a run is. It's fairly common to have a limit of 3 fish per day per person. Sometimes, it can be 12 per day per person, if the run has come through strong and AF&G decides to bump the limit up. You can always call fish and game for these daily updates, or you'll see the daily limits posted on any river access signs. They will be everywhere surrounding where you'd park. If you are going to be throwing spoons/vibrax/pixies/blue fox type lures, you'll want to target the incoming and outgoing tides. Look for where the tide meets the river current, you'll see where the tide has slowed the river current down because it has filled in. That line will move up river as the tide comes in and will be where the highest density of salmon are. They "ride the wave" in. If you are flossing, 3' deep or less and walking to running pace water is your ticket. Don't bother trying to floss in deep water. The shallow water allows you to sight fish for them sometimes when the sun is out. That can be a lot of fun too. I'm going to put up a how to salmon fish video this year. Hopefully I'll have it up before your trip. Be on the lookout come spring time.
@wickedalaska Great info, thank you! I have some 3.5 size spinners that I want to try, that work here on kings and cohos in tidewater areas like you describe. Also, I want to try a 3.0 size Spinfish. Not sure if you have heard of them. You can open them, and put bait inside of them. We use canned tuna. They work trolled or casting. You put a small 1 or 1.5 ounce banana weight, or mooching weight for casting. About 3 years ago, I would get 2 or 3 coho a day casting for kings. That year the limit was 1 coho for the season, so I threw back a good 8 to 10 that vacation week. My last fish of my vacation was a king finally casting the Spinfish
😁❤️🦆 🪿🪿🦆
The duck is the best!
Pretty awesome area to fish. is it pretty standard to pull fish up that tend to be smaller?
There are all sizes in the bay, but most charters will drive a handful of hours out in the morning to get to the better spots. The fish I caught in this video were pretty small. There are chicken holes throughout the bay filled with 20-30 pounders that the larger boats access. The key to it all is chumming. Halibut hunt with their nose. Some charters even set up bait stations over night before bringing groups out in the morning to ensure they get on the fish.
great video, Ill be in the area for a week in July 2025 so I feel like I have a bunch of questions on fishing this creek. You ever take guys out on a little shore fishing guide?!?
I do have my guide license, but hardly use it because I have a 9-5 M-F. I'm very responsive on here, so ask away with every and any questions. Also, if time works out when you are in town, I'd be happy to meet you down there to give you a couple pointers.

It was a good day! I'm hopeful to get to flat horn lake or susitna station one day. Maybe next time I can make it all the way.
You need a wood stove
I hear that a lot. Once the cabin is heated the propane keeps up and regulates temperature great. It's just the initial heat up that takes a while. I might add a space heater or something hooked up to a generator to hit it when we first get there.
Beautiful video shots beautiful discovery to your channel thank you for the sharing 👍 👍
Thank you so much! So kind. Cheers!

Fun times. Sweet sleds are those expeditions or Skandics?
It was a great day! Wish we had more snow this time of year! We had both out. My machine is a Skandic. My friend's is an Expedition. Both are awesome machines. They are basically identical from behind the ski base and suspension and back. The Skandic is a little narrower and tippy, but that works well in powder. The expedition is wider, more stable, a little nicer on trail, but is still perfectly capable off trail. The biggest difference is the suspension. The A arms on the expedition vs. the pogos on the skandic. Great machines!
Your trailer parking skills are outstanding! Can you give us a lesson?!
Hah! Practice, practice, practice! My top advice is to use side mirrors over anything else and the move or adjustment you need happens "before" you think you need it.
May i ask what type of drone that is? Im lookkng for one that can hook up too my phone or a screen, without requiring cell phone service or wifi... Cool video, Cheers
I use a DJI mini 4 pro. I drive it with the provided screen. It's pretty easy to fly after following the tutorial it comes with. The battery doesn't last long at all, I still only have one battery, but I'll probably get another if I plan to use it for more than 20-30 minutes at a time. Cheers!

Hah! How that video got more than a dozen views is beyond me. Who could've known!?
When I added carpet to my camp it really helped warm things up. Not sure if there is really any insulation value with it, but it did help. I used a large remnant and it was not as easy to work with as these tiles. Great job!
Thanks! This is the first time I've worked with carpet beyond removal. It was a fast way to success! We're happy with the outcome.

Wow that sunshine looks nice right about now! Wonderful video for those who love cycle touring, exploring new place, and fabulous food.
It was an awesome trip. Glad I took my camera along.
I just watched your carpet tile installation video, and it brought back memories from my own project! I tackled 150 square feet of carpet tiles in my basement last year, using a similar product from Lowe's. One thing I struggled with was ensuring the adhesive strips were perfectly aligned; I learned the hard way that even a slight misalignment can create noticeable seams later on. I found that vacuuming the floor before laying the tiles made a significant difference in adhesion. Your tip about rubbing the seams to blend the fibers is spot on! I did that as well, and it really helped make everything look seamless. Another challenge I faced was cutting tiles around corners; I often ended up with curled edges. Like you mentioned, letting the tiles flatten out before installation is crucial. I also used a carpet comb to blend those edges, which made a big difference in the overall look. Thanks for sharing your journey and tips! It’s always nice to see others tackling similar projects. Looking forward to more of your cabin build videos!
I'm in my "try everything and learn" phase. So much more cabin build videos to come! Promise!
Thank you so much Cyle, Tristan and friends for this amazing, professional and funny video! Antonio, Puglia Cycle Tours. (Your briefing man in Alberobello)
Hey, Antonio! It was such a great adventure. Your brief was detailed and simple to follow along. It started us off on a good foot. Thanks for the whole experience!
@wickedalaska 🙂
Brilliant! So much better and easier than large layers of carpet!
For a cabin application this is a great product. For someone's fancy living room, I need experience in another install before I could say it's an adequate substitute for a professional carpet job. I'm guessing that if I was critical of each piece I used and I followed the pyramid pattern that the product of the install would have been better. I didn't half ass this though, so it might have limitations. The real catch is how dang easy this was!
That seems like a great product for a remote building. Thanks for sharing!
I have installed many types of flooring before, but never these. It was SUPER easy. Next time I use these I'm going to do the pyramid pattern. The pattern I used is totally great for my current application, but I think the pyramid design might be a better end product.
Greenling !
Correct! Super cool looking fish!
When I was a teen we built a wood splitter that we mounted to an old truck axle. We bought the hoses, couplings, lever, etc. from a now long gone store called Central Tractor but we didn't use a small engine to power it, we quick connected the hoses to the hydraulics on our old John Deere tractor. I have no idea how many "tons" it produced but it'd split anything we put on it, even green knotty sweet gum logs!
That a really cool project and memory. Thanks for sharing.
How long did you have to keep your insulation dry in your floor before you were dried in?
It took us 3-4 days of working super long days to get to putting the tarps over the rafters. After that I did the roofing on non raining days. The floor seemed to dry out very quickly. I checked by popping a board underneath to inspect. Interior Alaska has a pretty dry climate, so things bounce back fast once you keep them out of the rain.
Feel free to ask any question(s) you might have about this machine. I'll be using it extensively in the harshest conditions, the Alaskan winter.
Thanks for the unboxing and review! I will have to get one for the cabin next time we are in Alaska! I hate splitting wood the old fashion way, too hard on my back and shoulders! Great price in my opinion.
The thing I like most about this is how much smaller it is compared to the other options. One mod that I'll want to make is elevating it. I'll probably build a table of some sort to lift it up near my wood pile so I can work ergonomically.
They are soooooo sweet 😩😍
I've never been this close to a wild duck before. They were super cool. Lots of fun little noises as well.
