This is the first of many videos that I made documenting the restoration of my 1963 Impala SS. Here we get as far as pulling the car in after sitting since 2008, getting it running, and stripping the car down to the frame and powertrain.

This is my Blade Chroma with the new Rakon Heli upgrade kit. All Carbon fiber and aluminum. Good design for the most part but a few flaws with this kit. This is a quick review of both, the Blade Chroma 4K and the Rakon Heli upgrade kit.
Hope all is well
That opening in the tunnel if for the 4 speed shift handle cover thats a factory original 4 speed dr. 409 sells that cover dr.409 is cazwell 63 409 parts
Hey brother, good work on the 63.. Got a question, I got a 63 convertible Impala and I was wondering if it was ok to separate the body from the frame without welding some structure braces in the interior box. I see some ppl do it and some not. I am not putting it on a rotisserie, just want to get to the underbody to spray it with Rino and weld stress points on the frame. Basically just raise the body enough to work and then roll the frame back under when I'm ready to rejoin the two.
I would definitely brace a convertible. They will flex a lot more than a hard top.
Why you stop posting man
I've got a 63 as also about to do type samething
Re edit the video with a lil background music and your views will go up a lil only reason I watched the whole thing is because I love cars n I was smoking when I was watching it
i would enjoy your video very much, but not with that background music.....sorry
Hey like your build, any updates? How’s it coming along? Hope all is well
Wow. Just bought one yesterday and will probably start the build this winter. Im sure you probably finished with this one by now. Hopefully went well
Hello my husband is looking for 62 chevy impala Chases please give us a telephone number if you have any we are in irvington nj
Hey Rick, I am restoring a '63 as well. (Not an SS). I was wondering if you had pictures of how the gas line runs in the area of the front A-Arm? It runs under it, that I know but I'm looking for the fastener and clip locations. Did you happen to take any pictures of the gas line in this area? Also, are you in the great state of Wyoming? I saw a license on a Jeep in your first vid that was Wyo. I'm in CO and get to Cheyenne on a regular basis. Hope you got over your health issues.
Who did you chrome work
Hi Rick. Hope you are doing well. I’m doing a 1965 Buick Riveria frame off restoration. Can’t wait to see no 5 video and more. You have inspired me with your videos. Get well my friend. On with 60s power 😎
Waiting for number 5...
Hi Rick, sick '63 mate! How's it going finishing up? Good luck with the project, it's always a push :) Sebastian / Finland
How much did you pay for all the chromeing?
I want to say around -3k for the chroming of the differential, lower trailing arms hood and door hinges. Upper, lower control arms. Motor mounts. All 4 backing plates. Steering knuckles and spindles.
@@ricoflo nice nice is that California price? Or you out in a different state?
Good luck with your recovery, glad to see your back on your feet I’m enjoying your build but your health comes first.
You put rear disk brakes on this ride
When is video 5 coming
Dam bro, you do some amazing work. Just started tearing apart my 62, plan to do it myself so your videos motivate the hell out of me.
Thanks, 62 is one of my favorite cars....im sure it'll turn out sick....Take your time, do it once....
Too much time and money doing your own restoration. I pick up a 64 ss black on red high optioned that has even has power vent windows. Has 327 with ac, power seats, windows, tilt, cruise and vacuum power trunk.. i paid 27k from a second owner in Alabama with maintenance records through out its entire life. Its now at my place in sunny southern California.. but I've seen 63 ss impala's for no more than 25k in our southern states. People need to stop paying those rip off prices at Barrett Jackson etc.
I agree...its definitely a labor of love....😆
Nice bro , looking forward to the next video
Good to see you back. Keep up the good work. Cant wait to see it finished.
Thanks Dude....glad to be back....
Use truck bedliner on the bottom. It's durable and tintable to any color. Cool video. Hope to see more.
Hi I love these cars.wish all the best
Thank you sir....this is my 8th 63, I love these cars as well..
I used chassis black from summit racing, it's an epoxy with a semi-gloss.
Just ran across your video. Hope your health is restored and you are back wrenching on that 63
That's a bad ass garage you have. At first I thought you were in a commercial shop until I saw the house. Was that a custom addition?
Thank you... I actually built it myself. I demolished the original 2 car and replaced it with this monstrosity... 😂.. I love it..
The 327 250 hp was the base motor in the SS. Did you mean 327? Nice build btw. I have a 63 Sport coupe hard top with the 327 300hp glide combo.
I was told that it was a 327, then I found out that the car was available with a optional 283. Major disappointment....... But I'm OK with, that because the numbers all match. The casting number show that is a 283....unfortunately
That's crazy, but the numbers match and it should be a lower production car because of the odd combo. My grandfather ordered mine with the 300 hp motor.
Any plans to continue this series? I am about to start restoring my grandfathers rust bucket 63
Kenny Wilson I am getting ready to start again. I will be posting another video soon.
Rick Flores just finished watching both of your videos on this build/restoration! I know very little about restoring or pretty much even where to start on something like this and yet I feel an extreme need to get ‘63 impala. The ones that are “affordable” require something like you’re doing 🤣
I'd powder coat the bottom of the car to
Working on a car with music in your own big space garage is like relaxing almost to us I think....I mean for me yeah it would haha.
It's in Chihuahua, I can get you the name of the shop if you want it but that's about 3-4 hours South of el paso. There is another company in Juarez I've heard is good too. I've never dealt worth them but they're closer. Here is there info. www.ccroni.com/
Where did you send them in mexico?
Why did you send the parts to Mexico to get plated is it that much cheaper?
Its actually a lot cheaper, my local chrome shop quoted me $478.00 to chrome 1 control arm. I was able to get the differential housing, lower trailing arms, all 4 backing plates, upper and lower control arms, spindles, steering arms, sway bar, hood and door hinges, and motor mounts chromed for $2280.00. I don't know that I would of went out of the way just for the price but my retired father came to help me out when I got sick, I was able to sent them with him without being an inconvenience to him. He then returned a couple of months later to for some business and was able to bring them to me. It just worked out....
God speed on your recovery. Can't wait to see the build progress.
nathan daniel, thank you. I appreciate that and I can't wait to get going again.
He's definitely helping. Thank you Nathan...
Keep pushing. Looking good. I'm 5 years in on mine. Slow progress but it will payoff soon.
Awesome job !! Time and space constraints are my road blocks . Stuck working The graveyard shift . Enjoy the work your doing
right on, keep up the good work, I'm 2 years in on my frame off restoration. Its a fun task. Me 1961 Cadillac.
That'll be a sick car when your done. Keep on, keep on.....
Is it possible to use another motor? my chroma broke, I made a modification with F450 frame. It was very good, but I wanted to change the brushless for an easier one to buy. would it be possible to use one of 800kv? thanks and hugs. Moises
Joe, just a heads up, they recommend calibrating the gps when ever you change geographic locations but I have been calibrating mine every time I take mine out, even if I'm still in the location and its seems to fly flawlessly. small price to pay to avoid it from flying away for no apparent reason.
very important information thanks
It really is a great flight, but why did you do your first flight over a river?
Rick, Good people renew your faith. I'm sure you were delighted when your Chroma was returned to you. Sorry to year about the flyaway. That has to be a sick feeling. Great job on the video. Kudos to you and Chroma #2. I enjoyed the scenery and the music. I am from Massachusetts and we have some pretty nice scenery here as well. Happy flying and I'll be looking for more videos from you soon. All the best ! SemperFiGuy
They had me send in my controller, and found nothing wrong with it. At that point they offered me a 50% discount on a new one. .. That went swell. ...After me blowing a gasket, they agreed on getting me a refurbished unit as a replacement. is been a month since then and nothing, yesterday they contacted me and decided to send me a brand new unit because of the time frame. They stepped up and did the right thing finally, but I'm out a couple hundred bucks for the rakon kit.. It is what it is I guess. ..
Rick Flores Well, you're lucky. Your warranty wasn't valid anymore, because you moded the quad. This carbon/aluminum frame could block or interfere with signals, so...
Yes sir it did indeed fly away. ..... so far I've sent the remote back to horizon hobby and they've verified that nothing is wrong with the controller. So far they are wanting to offer me a new one at half price and I let them know I think that its B.S. They should be replacing it free of charge being how it is still under warranty. Robert, the HH Rep I've been talking to concerning my case says he's gonna get back to me once he speaks to his manager. I expect to hear from him tomorrow or the next day.
+Rick Flores What did they say? :(
is this the newest model? Newer than the 3 pro?
Scoby, this is the one they're replacing the 350 with. it is a little bit larger than the 350.
Did you ever get a chance to take an in-flight video? Whats your battery flight time, did it increase or drop
Eric, my flight time actually stayed about the same. Not really a noticeable difference. ..
Flyaway drone alert. .... This my chroma just flew away and is now M.I.A. It's lost in the desert somewhere. ..
+Rick Flores Are you serious? Did your chroma flyaway? If so what caused it??
+Kyle Ortega , since I wasn't able to recover my chroma, they weren't able to come to a conclusion on what caused it. I sent the remote in and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They think it might have lost the gps signal, I disagree. I neversaw that on the remote. so it's inconclusive at this point.
Thx, great upload. Drifting problem, try Accelerometer Calibration.
Gobi, I've tried everything. I think it has some thing to do with landing gear. I replaced the aftermarket landing gear with original landing gear and it seemed to help.
