Journey to the Abandoned Past: Overnight Camping and The Diversion Dam
This week, we embark on a journey back to a familiar and awe-inspiring location-the abandoned Diversion Dam. Although it no longer serves its original purpose of generating power for Victoria, this hidden gem remains a captivating destination just a stone's throw away from home.
Venturing through the rugged terrain, we encountered a surprising obstacle-a road to the dam, once accessible from the main logging route, now unearthed and impassable for a regular vehicle. Despite the setback, the allure of this place, with its rich history and breathtaking landscapes, urged us to find alternative routes to explore its hidden wonders.

Просмотров 90Год назад
In a world where we have never been so connected why do we feel so disconnected? In this video i talk about the realization that social media and technology keep us from truly connecting to our real world. And the how thinking about this topic has made me realize that the “real world” has been there all along as it always has been. Hope you like it! Outlast Overland.

Abandoned Bridge, and a DARK History
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.Год назад
In 1925, A.B. Palmer Co was awarded the bridge substructure (including towers) contract. In 1926, day labor erected the steel superstructure and the crossing was completed. The new bridge passed over the eastern abutment of the first bridge but had a different orientation. The overall length is 84 meters and the width was 4.9 meters to the inside curbs. The bridge was an integral part of the re...

Great video dad! You're very talented with a camera and video editing!
Thanks! Can't wait to see you!!
@@OutlastOverland same!
I recently found that bridge myself, been meaning to go back and check it out more
@@christopherfaith yeah there are a few out there
Info it in an afternoon on my motorcycle and it’s a great loop.
@tylergray6184 yeah I wish I had an adventure bike to do this loop! Would be awsome
You didn't show the little tree growing out of the log in Fairy lake! And you missed a chance at Avatar.
That wouldn't happen to be Matt's van would it? small world!
Maybe..... 😆
This is dumb.
Why thank you! You seem like a nice person. Hope you have a great day!
@OutlastOverland weird that you are able to judge a person's whole character based on 3 words. Keep going with that! You have a great day as well!!
Fred now drives a Cybertruck - is he a pussy?
This video is awesome. I'm heading out there to camp and explore tomorrow night for some peace and quiet. I just connected the dots and recognized you, I believe you came into my store in sooke a year or two ago and we had a brief chat. Hope you're doing well ✌️
I grew up in sooke and am there all the time so it's entirely possible! There are tons of places out that way to explore. Unfortunately there are also a ton of gates and dug up logging roads blocking access to a lot of it. I'm glad you liked the video, I've been really busy with work and life so there hasn't been one in a bit. There are some big plans coming up in the near future with more things a little further out there. Hope you had a good relaxing time out there! Cheers.
Huh. I pass by here occasionally and have always wondered about the abandoned town. Now I know. Thanks.
For this place to be abandoned, why didn’t they do anything about it? .
Mostly abandoned, there are still people living there. BC hydro bought out the people in the "danger zone" it was needed for safety as far as I understand.
Awesome video, guys. We love exploring abandoned stuff.
Yeah there is not a ton around here, more on the Mainland (we are on Vancouver Island) we will get out that way and head north one day when life permits.
still strong though i drove my jeep across it few years back thats probably why there a huge rock in the way now
Oh yeah I'm sure it's crazy strong 💪 especially for a little vehicle..... the Fraser canyon is a cool spot. Can't wait to get back to the Mainland and explore dome cool history out that way.
This is a great video on this location, interesting history thanks for posting !
That is the way the deck was built. Following the flood of 1894 which destroyed the original 1863 bridge. This was so if the Fraser River ever flooded again. Which it did twice again. 1947 and 1974, the flood waters would not destroy the bridge.
Ah makes sense! I was wondering why the gaps..... thank you for pointing that out and commenting.
Your channel is a gem ❤
I made several trips over that bridge before the present one was built. That was the 2nd of three bridges.
Definitely would be a cool roadtrip to follow! Best of luck for the funding! 😊
Would be epic!
Good production, did not know people Surf in Canada, water must be cold, did see a nice point break in video.
Yeah, Tofino here on Vancouver Island is a very popular spot for it. It is also a popular spot for hiking and camping. It's really touristy nowadays but it's beautiful. The video on the ww2 plane crash we made was in Tofino. Jordan River is popular on the lower island. There's nothing like surfing in California, though 😃
I remember that feeling when walking down the trail and turning to see the bridge for my first time. Totally in awe
Camping near a lake never disappoints! Going back to work is the hardest part, for real! love this episode!
Haha yeah wish we could just build out the truck and travel full time for a year!
Too bad we didn't get the bear on camera. I worked in the bush for years and have probably come across hundreds of bears..... stay safe out there!
Promo`SM 🌹
Hope you liked this video, it's really cool to see this in person. If you have the chance to see it you definitely should. Who says their is no adventures to be had in the fall?
Just cam across you videos tonight, and I have to say that you did an awesome job on telling this story in a respectful fashion. As a retired Canadian solider I too find it tough as it hits home whenever we lose a sister or brother.
I'm currently serving on board HMCS Submarines, I'm glad you liked the video. I'm not the best at storytelling but I'm trying to improve. Yes it definitely hits home regardless of the time when you served. Thank you for your service brother.
awesome place for photo op!
For a bike? 100% I never thought of that when I owned my 600rr would have been sick
Basically you have shown us next to nothing.
Oh sorry, this was the first video I made ever. Never picked a camera up before this time. Fairly sure it talked about the history of the dam and the reason the low laying part of Jordan River was bought out and torn down. We all start somewhere, this was mine. What's yours? Here is a more up to date video on the power station hope it shows you "something": ruclips.net/video/b-JO9zFsZj0/видео.html
Those huge graffiti’s in the power station is pretty neat, and the place looks surprisingly clean for an abandoned building. Very cool
Yeah its a cool place Thinking about it. Your right it is strange that it's so clean. It's been abandoned for a long time..... it's a crazy building.
I need this as a reminder every day. Well done 🙌
WOW! This is such rad video, everything you said is absolutely true and exactly how we try to live our life... Looks like you have an awesome setup and you're getting out there and living life how its suppose to be lived! Incredible editing skills, it was a pleasure to watch this👏🏻 Keep it up!
Thanks guys! Can't wait for your next one too! Glad your living it to the fullest 🙌 🙏 tell Jay I say hi 👋 😊
Sad to think how much was lost, so little preserved. I’m working near Preston and started looking into its history. They cut down everything.
I love the wild beaches of Washington state👍
I dropped FB early in the day. Such a time waster, so many trolls. Censorship now of course. I post anything controversial on another platform. Used IG when I was taking care of my father because my brain was fried. I’m out and away from the internet more than half my time. I spent two months on a remote mountain with no electricity. Got rid of tv after it went digital. Definitely one must be disciplined about use of time. Great video👍
Yeah it is WAY to distracting from what's actually "real"
We can relate in so many ways. We are not built for social media. We tried fb, and we eventually deleted it, insta barely surviving. My obsession with storytelling and digital album is what keeps me in YT, and I hope to meet people like you on the trail one day. But other than that I couldn't stand it
Agree it eats up our lives and before you know it you blink and the world has passed you by. I love storytelling and video editing/shooting but I want to keep my love for it so I don't pressure myself anymore, I just make what I want and don't beat myself up if I don't hit once a week. Take care my friend and lots of love from my family to yours!
Great editing and music choice guys. Keep the videos coming and soon you’ll get to the first goal of 1000 subscribers in no time!
Thank you! Will do! Making videos that are a little more personal is risky business on the youtube 😂 gotta make a couple for me every once and a while....
I'm connected every day. How else will I know if people hate me?
Lol 😂 everyone loves you buds! We need to get together sometime I'm taking two weeks off work starting September 14th!

People can send you nasty postcards😆
Love this! 👏🏻🙌🏻😃
Awesome thanks
do you need oversized tickets for the ferry? Cellphone reception on the circle route any good? Thank you 🙏🏻 beautiful video
So for us we are over hight, yes. It costs a little more but we are almost always able to get on the ferry. Cellphone reception is good from Sooke to Port Renfrew however from Port Renfrew to Cowichan Lake there is none. Would recommend a 4x4 or SUV if you intend on visiting the red creek fir, or if you decide to visit any of the old growth groves and big lonely Doug. (We made a video on lonely Doug) carry a spare tire! There is active logging during the week so be mindful driving logging roads. Also go slow (potholes are big out there) there is a book on this route that outlines stops and points of interest (pacific marine circle route I believe) Lots of places to camp along the river out that way too you should have no problems finding somewhere private with no one around. Maybe one day I will throw together a book with all the interesting places we go and make it available for download. Hope you have a great adventure out there. You can also look up our " Outlast Overland" Facebook group and I would be happy to point you in the right direction there as well!
Good stuff man! Great message and some really good shots in there.
Appreciate it!
I thought I had notifications turned on for your uploads, I do now! This was very well put together and looked like an amazing trip.
Thanks man, you should check out "you don't want to see the world" my latest video. (It's my first stab at a short film thing?) It's the latest one on the channel.
@@OutlastOverland stoked, I’m gonna watch it today!
Loved making this one, please check out Sam Newtons work (way better than mine) Cheers!
It's even better when you bikepack it like I did.
That's a long ride! Especially with weight on your bike. Did you ride into the red creek fir as well?
bes t-🤩
Thanks for the positive feedback!
💯 on point!
Thanks man I'm glad you liked it. It was new for me to just create something into a short film.
Nice video. You have a great “radio voice”!
Lol thanks, my family tells me the same thing. It's funny because I just talk into the mic with zero manipulation of the audio..... It's always funny hearing yourself on a radio recording 😂
