Established in 1879, McBean’s has been at the forefront of British orchid cultivation from our nursery just outside Lewes ever since. Here we cultivate, grow and nurture some of the worlds most spectacular varieties of orchids. McBean’s has won over 70 gold awards at Chelsea Flower Show; we are known for producing a diverse range of outstanding quality orchids.
We specialise in Cymbidium and Oncidium orchids, however we do have occasional unusual orchids. We will be posting helpful videos on how to look after orchids such as repotting, about the conditions needed and showing our spectacular collection.

It's time to start re-potting Cymbidiums and Phalaenopsis orchids! Today Jim talks about how we re-pot our Cymbidiums orchids at McBean's, the medium we use an how to treat them after re-potting. It's autumn so it is time to start repotting Oncidium orchids. Jim Durrant, head nurseryman at McBean's orchid gives us a step to step guide on how to repot Oncidiums with some interesting facts and history on the Oncidium collection at McBean's.
Che meraviglia davvero bravo top.. vorrei chiederle cortesemente.. un po' la cura e il trattamento ideale per avere delle cymbidium spettacolari dal rinvaso da che tipo di concime usare da che tipo di materiali ideale per il trapianto io attualmente uso mix per orchidee e vaso di terracotta leggermente più grande... E durante il travaso aggiungo del concime alle intercessione e ogni 20 giorni nel periodo primavera estate aggiungo anche del concime liquido alle innaffiature.. lasciandoli i miei cibi che ne ho bensì 10 sempre all'esterno riparati sotto il balcone e in inverno riparati dal tessuto non tessuto
Buongiorno amò pazzescamente le orchidee.. cymbidium e phalenopsis... Ma la passione per le cymbidium è bellissima .. non c'è giorno che non le guardo che non le tocco mi fanno stare bene.. più ne ho di cymbidium più ne voglio sempre alla ricerca di nuovi colori.. grazie per eventuali vostri insegnamenti di coltura casalinga😊❤

Amazing orchids. Where is the nursery
Hello!! I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you. Could you tell me why some buds of my cymbidiums die before opening the little flowers. I opened a bud pocket because I saw it with some spots from the inside and when I opened it all the little flowers that were growing fell and inside there was something sticky and brown, also that in some areas of the floral stem when I removed the cover that they have. 😢😢 so I don't know if it's a bacteria or a plague. I hope you help me. Thank you 🎉❤

Hii! How long after reporting cymbidiums does it bloom?
If you are repotting right after flowering , it will bloom the same the next year.
For me 10-12 months - My Cymbidium orchids blooom in spring time .. Keep feeding them monthly .

You are a breath of fresh air Jim and not to mention how beautiful all of your cymbidiums are. Great to hear an expert explaining with ease considering the amount of knowledge one needs to learn to grow cymbidiums successfully. I am collecting heat-tolerant cymbidiums to grow here in Samoa and have quite a variety from Thailand and Australia. I would love to buy some flasks of your varieties if that is at all possible. These plants are heavenly and give so much serenity and pleasure!

We use a mix of peat, bark and pearlite.

Most of the orchids on our videos are not for sale - they make up our breeding collection.

Hi Peter, as long as your culture is of a decent quality no need for fungicide. We try and reduce the amount of chemicals we use at the nursery. 👍
