To the other commenters< The Newman family brought this on themselves. The Newmans as a family unit were clout hungry and delusional. They created a whole T.V show, made fake college announcement videos, created/hijacked schools to get their son more playing time all while letting him play the worst basketball ever, just so he could pad his stats. If the Newmans had just accepted their 15 minutes of fame and then moved on then Julian would have faded into irrelevancy like every other "Prodigy" of the 2010s. But they're greedy, stubborn, cocky, and it doesn't help that Julian has (or had) anger issues on the court. All of these traits made the Newmans hateable. Julian would have never made it to the NBA. He has no height and is an average athlete. But he could have been a much better basketball player if either him or his dad humbled themselves and actually tried to learn how to play functional, efficient basketball. But thats not what they want. They don't want good basketball, they want highlight plays and big numbers so they can fuel their media business. It is kinda sad because I do think Julian legitimately has hoop dreams. It'd be smarter for him at this point to just pivot full time into an influencer role. The fact that he's still trying says something. That being said, the fact that hes still playing terrible basketball at a bad school just shows that he's hasn't and is unwilling to learn much. Like I said, every other prodigy from the 2010s faded into irrelevance. Only reason Newman hasn't is because they dont want too. edi: actually I'll say, while the chances are slim, it is possible for smaller guards to make it to the nba if they have the IQ. Mavs are great with an amazing backcourt, but they aren't that great this year. Especially with the injuries Luka is facing. Adding Klay was not much. They are winning, but even with Luka they couldn't. There are teams better. Their run was amazing, but making a run back to the championship is not easy for them anymore. This isn't the Curry-Bron era. Its not guaranteed to see the same teams getting to the finals.

The problem with russ is simply that he's so terrible shooting the ball outside 3ft that teams just put centers on him and sag bag. Dallas put lively and gafford on him last year and he proceeded to shoot 20% on layups. This creates a huge spacing issue. With jokic, teams have to put their centers on jokic or else he's gonna shoot 90% instead of 60% on the post. Russ have a better chance at finishing at the rim cause of this and he actually becomes a threat. Another key thing is that russ is a terrible PnR ball handler cause again. He can't shoot and teams simply go under. But cause jokic have such a huge gravity they simply can't do that cause jokic will seal the guard going under and allow for a wide open lane for russ.
