If you read the story world forger mentions the rest of his multiverse was collapsing. Meaning that superman didn't actually one shot the thing. It was the page when they returned to reality. Not only was his family slaughtered, but the monsters who did it "Those Who Slither In the Dark or The Agarthans" played a game called "Scapegoat the Blacks" by tricking the Kingdom to thinking they were the culprits, which caused people to attack the Duscur people Game of Thrones style and Dimitri (as a kid) with all of chaos going on knowing who really did it was secretly hiding and protecting many Duscur people from persecution. They even help him in major ways later on in the story. So not only is he trying to avenge his family, but also the Duscur people who passed away during the skirmish.
