Noam Chomsky on The Ezra Klein Show | April 23 2021
Просмотров 11 тыс.3 года назад
Noam Chomsky on human nature, anarchism, Joe Biden, China, automation, the limits of class, the advertising industry, libertarianism, the degrowth movement, nuclear war, technological innovators, why he's a "conservative" on social change. How do you introduce Noam Chomsky? Perhaps you start here: In 1979, The New York Times called him “arguably the most important intellectual alive today.” Mor...

Noam Chomsky is fulfilling a duty to the future when he will not be with us. His views will be of interest and relevance forever.
This video is from 2007 rofl
where can i watch this??
This was great - really needs more people (everyone!) to hear it.
So let's tax the rich!!!
I am agree so much with the idea of the workers taking charge and other notions of equity and justice.. But I am totally disappointed with Chomsky view of Israel and the Palestinians, especially when he compares Gaza to other real/horrific human rights abuse in the context of a list of other REAL abuses in this world like by China.. When he said this, Ezra simply said he agrees with "most" of what he said. Chomsky viewpoint is par for the course for the many left progressives. BUT history and context matters which unfortunately is not an axiom practiced by the most of progressive activists. Lets look at some history. From 1948-1967, Gaza and the West Bank were under the control of the Egyptians/Syrians/Jordanians. Not a word of trying to create a Palestinian state here in the exact same area that now the Palestinians want for their state (which I am very sympathetic to) and in which they can justly determine their own destiny. From 1967 to 1994 Israel did have 'rule' over Gaza. However in 1994, they pulled out entirely from Gaza giving Gaza self-determination. There were no blockades -- just an amazing opportunity to show the world and Israel what an independent Palestinian country can accomplish. But no, They first destroyed all the massive agricultural infrastructure that the Israelis left behind for them to use and thrive. Secondly they begin indiscriminately firing rockets into the civilian population of Israel. Since 1994, there have thousands of of these random missiles fired from Gaza into Israel. (just wondering what would happen if e.g.; Mexico fired even one missile into the USA?). As a result of these massive/indiscriminate bombing's, Israel imposed a blockade in Gaza to try to reduce this civilian terror rockets (..please remember why there is a blockade). Hamas has spent most of its international funding on terror rockets and underground terror tunnels with little interest in helping the Gaza population with schools and hospitals. (just a side note, Hamas kills its LGBTQ community...so much for being loved by the 'enlightened' progressives who promote Hamas and think of them as the 'good guys' here). Hamas cares more of destroying Israel than taking care of its own people. Just totally amazed by the pure (hopefully not willful) ignorance of Chomsky and the many progressives with him. Before you all send me your 'hateful' comments, please read LOTS OF REAL history and with nuance. This is a complex situation in which I urge everyone to get more knowledgeable and then react to my comments. Thanks.

One of the best movies of all time! Sorry Clint Eastwood but this one is epic.
Appreciate this interview, even if I have strong disagreements with Ezra Klein.
damn it, can't find this movie anywhere. someone please tell me where can I watch it
Hey, have you found it 😭?
@@ramamubarak6740 still nothing, it's a bummer, i really wanted to watch it so bad 😞
@@nathaliazerves9961 same 😣. In fact I’m finding it hard to find any of Louis Garrel movies on the internet specially the old ones and that’s so sad ):
Excellent questions, excellent discussion. Thank you, Ezra and Noam.
Matador should be included in the 10 best movies in Cinema history. Genius movie. Beyond its Time, intelligent and Raw as life.
Yes, a superb film, and lots of fun.
Great movie 👍
Fantastic interview. Thanks.
The South China Sea ! That sounds like China's Manifest Destiny. That is China's Monroe Doctrine.
"American Values" ? Did the Roman Empire have "Roman Values" ? Has any Empire ever had Values ? If an Empire does have / has had Values, it's more & more Acquisition of other Peoples' resources ; and in the end, that's not a "value" ; in the end, Empires have never had values ; values are founded on Ethics & Morals, not World-Dominance of one Country, over many ... over all ... Only Ethics & Morals = Values. Even I can do that Math !
Lincoln shouldn't be on that list of "Classical Liberals". It didn't include Slaves & especially Ex-Slaves which he wanted to ethnically cleanse from the United States.
What a fantastic interview. And great questions by Ezra
Ezra's questions elicit pretty much the same answers that Noam gives in 95% of his other interviews. There are two things different about this interview: - Ezra's imperial lenses get exposed during the last 15 minutes or so. - Noam mentions three books that have had a significant impact on him: "The Last of the Just" by André Schwarz-Bart, "All God's Dangers: The Life of Nate Shaw," and writings in Hebrew that I couldn't quite understand.
It says "Selected essays by Ahad Ha'am" in the video description. Maybe what you're refering to?
@@Muthaphuckka Thanks!
Great interview with Noam Chomsky.
I found: At the Crossroads: Essays on Ahad Ha’am, is this what is mentioned at the end?
92 years old, one of my heros. Enjoy while he is with us.
this is like listening to a toddler speak to…incredibly prolific linguistics professor noam chomsky
Better than Ezra? Ezra with Chomsky!
@48:00 I don't know if he is correct about that. When viruses mutate, they typically become less dangerous. And the mRNA vaccines seem to provide pretty good protection against many variants already.
Ezra and Chomsky!! Can't wait to listen. I have been enjoying all the various interviewers Chomsky has been allowing lately, although some don't deserve the opportunity to speak to this exceptional man. Glad to see Ezra who will do a good job, I'm sure.
how does he know so much? he reads a lot
Photographic memory in a moral human. That’s Chomsky- he’s a National treasure
Much credit to EzraChomsky
I think Biden, coincidentally, also experienced the most humbling moments in life: death, a parent burying a child, & a loved one facing addiction.... His age & these very specific life experiences as well as accepting that Trumps election was somewhat a response to Obama’s mild approach to change after using it as a campaign promise, all have had a serious effect on the personal beliefs guiding his actions. Basically, Biden from 20 years ago would not b the same president he is today. His ego & limited view of conflict as well as the vanilla back & forth politics between the 2 standard parties would all hinder his urgency if we had ‘past’ Biden, pre-life changing experienced Biden as president today.
You're spewing nonsense. How could you possibly know what Biden thinks or feels, or how it will affect his actions as president? You sound like a propagandist for the "democratic" party...
Emerson Addison Ha! R u a lunatic? Lol Its called ‘opinion’. 🤔
friedricengravy :: There were / are millions of people who have had those same life-changing forces. Biden feels those changes from a position of power through political influence. For people who are w / o power & influence, who have experienced drug-addiction, etc., he Instituted & Racialized The Crime Bill, Incarcerating Millions.
I would like to ask Chomsky what he thinks about the notion that intelligence dictates what people should do for society.
I think one should decide what they mean by intelligence, and also consider what leads to different levels of intelligence within groups of people.
@@titaniumjacques13 --- Excellent point ! "The Educated Gentlemen in Society, should run the Society". "Those who own the Country, should run the Country". "Those who have Property should guard against those w / o Property" ( The Mob / The Masses ). _That last one was a favorite of The Founders._
The beauty is you can send this guy an email and he'll actually respond
Please condemn Israel for its bombardment of Palestinian civilians.
Much credit to Ezra; he did his homework and prepared very well; one of the best interviews with Noam I've heard in a long time (and I've heard many hundreds). Hoping for another before too much time passes...
Agreed, Klein got original answers. This should be the duty of every chomsky interviewer over the next years..
that's exactly what I thought when i first listened to this. He asked really good questions. You could tell he actually cares about the answers.

Ezra-I found this interview with an audio text attached as well as the full text which I followed avidly. How can I get back to that one?
Tombstone and 3:10 To Yuma...my go to western movies!
Where i can watch it?
Did you find it?
How is this movie so old already
They legitimately put all the best scenes in the trailer Why
No way some evil looking dude goes wandering around Texas without getting shot.
perfect movie
Thank you GTA V for making a pop culture reference of this movie's epic battle scene in one of its spinoff mission, needless to say I was really impressed.
so none of you lots are commenting about the connection that GTA V have with this movie huh... shame
me best movie
I really think the Coen brothers should take on Blood Meridian while McCarthy is able to advise. After seeing this, I think they're the ones who could do it.
