I really don't think that this is worst call ever.

Most likely, payback from the ump for what he thought that she popped off at him when he told her to get in the box. It was a bad call, but I’ve seen worst.

Before the "incident" I was thinking "Is there no concept of a batter's box in softball?". Guess I know the answer now...sort of.

The rule in baseball, and I assume also for softball, is the batter’s foot needs to be COMPLETELY OUTSIDE THE BATTERS BOX!

He's a baseball umpire. A softball umpire can tell. Mechanics are all baseball. He should not have been put in this situation. Bad on him and bad on the organization. Don't put a guy in a position that he has very little experience doing. But here's the thing, the little league umpire association does not look themselves in the mirror. They think they are the very best and they are not. Are they bad? No. Are they great? No. They need to get proper training before they are put into this kind of exposure. This one call may have ruined this umpire. Probably not. He probably still thinks he got the call right and his colleagues have his back, and that is the saddest part. Don't try to improve. Instead, deny it until your buddies believe it.

you make that call as umpire be sure theres irreputable evidence there out of the box. other wise give the batter that benefit of a doubt we all know as umpires those lines get skewed as games progress.

If the girl would not have been a female dog and take 45 seconds to step into the box before each pitch. He might not have called her out. And when does a 12 year old go show up an adult and point at the dirt. Then she curses at him. I bet her father can’t wait to meet his 3rd son in law. Because it’s going to take at three for this one.

Wrong. Worst umpire call ever happened in Oklahoma, 1974. I was called out stealing second base - I was safe by a mile.

Both feet barely in but to me this looks like an illegal hitting stance, she's halfway to first before making contact with her swing. Swing batter batter swing.

I get that he has to make the call in real time. Did he miss it? Yep. But he made it. My bigger problem is his reaction after the call was made. If you are going to make that call, in that spot in the game, you have to take at least a little heat.

It's a judgment call. Only on slow motion and freeze replay can you see it clearly, and the umpire must make his call immediately. This isn't in the same ballpark as the worst call ever.

Is it common to be running when you hit the ball in softball? Should be called out.

Running and hitting the ball sure seems like it would be more difficult than standing in and driving the ball? But then I don't play girls softball. Ha.
