In this channel i am starting of with some very common diy style items to help others remember to bear them in mind, or safety saving money and thereby success. as we move along I intend to get into the ideas that roll through my mind on the off duty hours of life, yes, drivers are people too outside the job and I'd like to show some projects and fun that come of that aswell, entertainment, learning and self improvement are the mission currently. follow if this sort of thing interests you, or ignore it completely, either way its all cool. If anyone has any ideas they would like to see my take of, leave it in a comment and ill see what i can do with it.
Portable battery jump start pack, do they actually work?
in this video i show a portable jump pack that was gifted to me to test out, and the be honest, i didnt expect much. However i can already see the advantages of the compact and lightweight nature, and it worked far better than i had anticipated. following this i used it to jump start an old 1992 chevy pickup with a v8, and then i jumped a case 2670 tractor and it worked great on all accounts and after doing 3 jumpstarts it still had about 74% left in it.

While sitting on my off time I got bored and decided to share my gross and miles, the intent is that anybody looking at trucking in Nov 2024 can see some real data to help see what is really going on money wise out here.
Changing an outer dual without removing rim from trailer
Просмотров 72 месяца назад
as operators of semis, we have almost all heard rumors that some tire guys will change an outer dual without removing the rim from the vehicle in question, today i tried that out. to be clear, it can definitely be done, but it took me way longer to do it this way and it was far more effort in my opinion.

Today we have a parts truck that is about out of parts, and needs to be cleared from our work area. Never fear, Captain RedBeard is here with a tractor to pull it away.

in this video i will demonstrate how simple it can be to make your own replacement part, for the project I chose the fuel damper cover as its pretty simple designed and it is the part that has been haunting me for a while, my metal i chose what a copper aluminum mix that was originally a ball of old trailer wire and aluminum cans. obviously it isn't perfect, but i'm not doing commercial product...

Is that for the Eaton Fuller 13 speed ultra shift main shaft speed sensor?
it is not to my knowledge an "ultrashift" but it is the main output shaft at the rear that we are focusing on there
End no way fix it !!
Thank God.
First and last time that trucks ever been towed.
Had a black 87 Eagle with a 444 Cummins and a 72" bunk . Was a nice big outfit at the time
i loved the 444, it was a very good motor to me
Did you try to put some diesel in it?😂😂😂😂😂
doesnt it always happen that things break right after you fill the tanks full?
That’s a good truck they don’t make them like they made that truck I’ll one of them any day
i agree, luckily i have a twin to it that the only difference is that it is blue
How is it done? The cab is on the frame and the frame is being held up by the suspension and wheels give her a new motor and she's back on the road.
Rest in peace. Well done
agreed :)
Its always wild to see the end of an awesome piece of equipment when its been used for so many years and its time to pull the plug
In my heart I love my older equipment, they were built different, they feel and operate different. I've had that purple truck for over 400,000 miles, its been good, and its had its bad moments. It will not be going to a scrap yard or sold atleast for now, im going to use what i can to bring life to a couple other projects ive got. the biggest issue is simply that the wear and tear on the motor and rear ends means that to actually make it a solid truck again its more than just a transmission, i would need to overhaul the motor and the rear ends. and that just isnt financially feasable for me, but i can use the frame on another build, and the cab is identical to another truck ive got that has some body damage from acts of nature. so parts will live on, but that unit as itself just has hit the point of being sacrificed
@Pirateshiplabs it's a tough decision for sure! You will always remember the last mile you drove it! I worked on a horizontal boring mill for years with a fanuc 15m control, and the day came that we pulled the plug on it. It still ran good but the company replaced it. I still remember moving the Y axis down to a certain point so the riggers could pick it up. My dad was a trucker for many years . His last truck he bought was a new 1998 kw T600 with a 425 cat, he ordered it with drivers side hand crank and passenger side electric window because he figured he'd wear out the electric motor on drivers side, and passenger side, a little hard to roll the window down if not electric. He put over a million miles on it and got a million mile hat from the cat dealer. One time he had a warranty issue that was out of warranty by one day and they wouldn't cover it . They said the warranty is 5 years, not 5 years and one day. I know it's tough right now to make money trucking, hopefully with our new president, everything will turn around. We are slow at the machine shop I'm at. But I think in January February we will be going bonkers as everyone will have new 2025 budgets. Take care, and stay strong!
Thanks man it helps to know in case happens to anyone appreciate it
Your welcome!
Is that the ultra shift 13 speed main shaft speed sensor?
The size of the prize makes no difference What matters is you've taken the day!!!
loving that energy!
I had the porcelain core of a spark plug seperate from the metal threads once, so this was literally the only tool that allowed me to remove it from the head of my pontiac grand prix
Then you know well the feeling I was talking about 🙃

I thought you were making raised vegetable beds

It’s a pulsation dampener. The original purpose was to dampen the fuel flow as it leaves the gear pump. I am not an old timer. But I am having the exact problem on my 855 in my five ton military dump truck. Fuel comes in thru the small port in the front. And to the portion with the disk and o ring. Then exits thru the bottom I belive. From what I’m finding out is it’s a bear to find any parts guys to get those o rings, cause they are a flat machine seal. Not just a standard o ring. I am thinking I’m gonna look thru my local CAT dealer for size for size machine seals. BEST OF LUCK !
to thus point, if it helps you out, i have found i can make the O-rings out of the sidewalls of a tire using a dremil, and if you look at the video i released today (10-26-24) i found that it is not too difficult to cast the part from copper or brass, and to thus point i have not had any issue with the copper one cracking, havent tried the brass one yet, but i was thinking it would give me some cheap shiny things under the hood :)
I would be ashamed of the job of plowing you show.
you missed the point then, your first time doing something is never perfect.
Can you help me with my engine got a low power problem
what sort of engine? what type of vehicle is it in? how many miles/ hours are on it? i can certainly try to point you in the right direction, some generic answers without more knowledge would be fuel filters, air filters are always a good start for ideas
Looks great, I used to have a disk just like yours. Keep trying and you will succeed, life is a great teacher. Practice, practice and practice then when you have it right keep practicing.
Thank you, i will keep after it. not only was there an educational value, but it was fun. can't deny i love the way an old diesel sounds
Long story short, many years ago my neighbor lady sold me the disk I had in for 20years and I moved so I took it to her daughter, I gave it to her and said it was her dad's. I will never forget the look on her face😊.
Looks good to me ,everything is a learning experience
my thoughts exactly, and im always on the hunt for the next experience.
Good outlook on life. Keep hammering down you will get it lined out. Thanks for sharing.
thank you, i appreciate your energy. :)
If you haven't figured what went wrong I can't won't help you The mess is made will likely take 5 or 6 years to to repair damage done
nah, just took a little extra time to level out, but i have already sorted that out, the damage took about one week to fix. not nearly as bad as one would have expected.
Good on you for a good attitude and working on getting the field looking the way you need it.
Its a life goal of mine to be more of the optimistic mindset, after more than a decade of looking at the glass half empty it was pointed out to me how miserable it felt. It wasnt easy or overnight, but i found little joys, even if many would consider this "work", watching things grow with your hand involved is very therapeutic.
You need at least a 7 bottom plow behind that tractor or you're just gonna have a mess.
a 7 or bigger would be fantastic, i just havent managed to get my hands on one yet, the entire "field project" is more of a hobby than a career so it is very budget focused and a 4 bottom was readily and cheaply available, upgrades will have to be slowly aquired over time.
That starter issue would be a priority fix for me vs standing in front of that big fat tire.
its a priority for myself aswell, i have since this posting addressed that, behind the dash/gauge panel was a big ole rats nest (literally). and that was why a handful of gauges aswell as the ignition did not work at the time of filming. however, i did get the tractor for free, so I was not about to complain to much about the lack of maintenance or the broken things of the last 15 years of it not being used. that story will be in the next clip of tractor play.
you can put a country boy in the city, but you cant put a city boy in the country,
that would be hilarious, however call it hobby. never lived near a city, just also never had the opportunity before to do "country things"
I'm at your mom's house and she told you to stop trolling and get your own ass back home to the city

Your plow bottoms are too narrow for the width of the tires , you could try and offset your plow but you need 18's or better for those wide tires . You are compacting your ground and that ain't good. Harrow in the direction that you plow ,go diagonal last with a drag then plant, never herd a disc harrow called a finish harrow ,that's all we used, 90%of the time, we had a spring tooth ,hard to transport
Thanks for the tips!
6:20 Your plows are out of adjustment…they need to be shifted more over to the right side of the tractor so the first furrow covers the rut left by the last furrow…
in a humorous way, since the time of this posting, ive learned everything is out of adjustment.
Disc in the same direction you plowed on the first pass that chops it up a lot better and it is so much smoother riding
at this point ive disced about every direction lol
Yeah looks like a rough plowing but like they say 100 years from now nobody will know😆
freely i will admit i had absolutely no idea what i was doing, however, I feel I've learned a whole bunch really quickly
Remember if you learned something it was a teaching lesson if you keep doing it over and over then it becomes a mistake😆 nobody wakes up and knows how to do everything.
Love the color that's cool
thank you!!! we plan to freshen it up during the build over winter, had a little trouble getting the right paint but we may have it sorted out now. :)

I’m glad to see that piece of history running today!
It is not the only piece of history being saved either, i like equipment that is simple and easy to work on, as a result, around the "farmyard" there are a handful of other older units i am working on, but "running" is not a word i can use for many of them as of yet
@@Pirateshiplabsyea not many of em are runnin as I could tell but at least some are
You nutbird. 🤭
Oh and when my phone was stolen outside a grocery store, there was cameras. And he used my card at a gas station where there was cameras and the cops had all that and still did nothing... so cameras only kind of help the situation
agreed, cameras really dont actually solve too many issues
I couldn't agree more. Again not a trucker, but as a person who has had my phone stolen, my camping gear vandalized, my bank account hacked more than once, and probably more smaller dumb things i can't think of right now, people need to be better to other people. No none of that stuff costs much, like your wiper but that's just not the point.
Preach it :) i do wish i would see more people be better, beautiful actions and good hearts make me happy
Cute!!
Thank you, its a happy moment in time, and I'm planning to share some of the highlights from this with all of you.
I wish I had the money to restore classic. Rare as single drive with a sleeper.
it had a second axle but i had the chop it off the put it under a heavy object during my move, money is always a bit short so i couldnt buy one for the purpose i needed, so i looked around and found the second drive axle off of this knowing the restoration wok will commence over time
Gotta have a yard dog. Shortest 2 axle with power steering that starts reliably.
Loving the way you think :)
Bought a packet of 10 at a shop called Truckline in Wingfield and sent them to the Knight Rider Historians!
that was a generous and helpful action on your behalf.
Great video but todays drivers have no mechanical knowledge and most cant drive anything except automatic transmission.
maybe that is why ive been such a downer on the industry lately :/ but i cant say thats all the fault o thier own, where is a person supposed to learn the old way if nobody has any examples to teach with?
You are absolutely correct, I'm 70 and I was running 48 states as an 0/0 at the age of 23,in a 1977 white road commander cab over. Have a good day
Great video
Thanks!
😊😊😊👍👍👍
Thanks for the thumbs up! Brightens the day to see it.
Love the toy story clip! I have curiosities if you don't mind explaining... when you say you made more working for someone else, is that more because of "the times" right now? Economy, gas prices, and things like that? So ride out the bad times and things could get good again? Or is it just because it's almost always tough in the start up process? Just wondering if it's specific to the last 3 years being the issue, so more of poor timing
the last three years have been a decline in general as far as profit vs cost as the cost of tires, fuel and oils are higher, and the average rate per mile has been on the decrease. so yes, poor timing there. However, what i was mainly getting after is when i was an owner op, running one truck, my time investment to monetary pay out, so lets say dollar per hour was higher, as the was one truck to maintain, and a company i was leased to took on the majority of the paperwork. so my dollar per hour was better. the startup is always tough, which is something that i dont feel is generally talked about enough. nobody told me how many times you gotta hit your head against the brick wall before you "win" so to speak. many drivers i had talked to who were independant had been in it over 15 years so they mentioned the most recent 10 years (which sounded not easy but reasonable) and neglected to mention the first 5. as a company driver, you hop in a truck, you drive, you go home, the company handles all maintenance and paperwork (invoicing, payroll, ifta, etc) so you are either on the clock or you are going home. if you pull the trigger and run the show, you generally end up doing the book keeping, dispatching and such at one section of the day, you might go out on the occasional run here or there, but keeping drivers happy is a 24-7 on call job, if one of my guys blows a tire at 3 AM on a sunday, i answer the phone, if i got someone who hits a deer at midnight in iowa, its time to load up the gear and head on a roadtrip, yes, i am aware inmany cases like a blown tire it is obviously more economical to use a tire shop, so i dont have to go on that adventure, but someone will still need my payment details. so in a long way of saying, dollar made for me personally vs my hours invested i was more profitable when it was just me. that is not to say there isnt joy to be had in my little community, because i absolutely enjoy those i work with, its a joy, its a lifestyle so to speak, but it isnt nearly the "dream" i had previously believed monetarily speaking. which may have been naive or may have been because i missunderstood or was mislead, but I am attempting to show the good, bad or just simply how a guy feels on a random given day
@@Pirateshiplabs very well put! I hope you get thru to that "easier beyond the start up" part soon! I didn't do trucking but I did do managing and having a good team is so important, if you have that already then you are already a step ahead of most!
How do you prime the fuel lines if it's not sucking from tank at the start
being as i have found no evidence of a primer pump of any sort, fill the filter full, and fire it up, usually within the first 10 seconds of running it does a little cough and then goes just fine. its been over 200k miles worth of maintenance with no issues thus far. in my experience, cummins motors are not nearly as particular as cat motors about being truly "primed"
Cool
thank you
Wow
