Matheus Diniz's strength and conditioning coach, Mark DiSalvo, goes through a synopsis of how he trained Matheus in the gym in preparation for the Craig Jones Invitational (CJI). He covers everything from training strength in a max effort fashion, to how he uses conditioning to make sure Matheus was ready for the CJI ruleset.
Matheus Diniz is a former ADCC World Champ (-88kg), and multiple title holder, and is currently the Marcelo Garcia Academy head instructor. He chose to forego the pursuit of another ADCC title in 2024 to join the -80kg bracket at the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational. Some have called the -80kg CJI Bracket the "best and most competitive" of all time.

    Hello! Wonderful video, hopefully you can help me with a question, if I am competing in BJJ and having 3-5 BJJ sessions per week, how many strength and conditioning sessions would be recommended additional to my BJJ training? Thanks! Greetings from Mexico!

      Thank you! I would start with 2 per week and work your way up from there if necessary. Many factors to consider, but just getting started is most important 💪🏼

      @@disalvoperformancetraining Thanks for your quick response, As for today I am doing 3-5 BJJ sessions and 3 S&C sessions per week, I feel good but on Friday, I feel exhausted haha! that is why I was asking, I was wondering if I should increase sessions or decrease. I really love having these 3 S&C sessions, I had noted my strenght and stamina increased drastically (2.5 months since I started with S&C).

    Thanks for putting this together! I use RPT style training 3 to 4 days a week and I've been wanting to find a mobility workout, which had some form of weights (body or otherwise) involved. I find normal stretching very boring, so I've copied your workout to my Sunday/Wednesday workout with HIIT cardio. Thanks again!
