Rogue Flight - Badlands
Hey, the new Star Fox game is pretty wild!
Honestly I adore this game's presentation, and using your ship's contrails to slice through enemies with an epic drift is extremely badass.
Holy hell though, this game is LOUD, regularly slamming into the red and distorting the audio from clipping. It's kind of awesome, but unfortunately lowering the in-game audio sliders to compensate reveals some sound-stacking issues (overlapping sounds increasing in loudness), particularly when drift-slicing multiple enemies - that _schwing_ sound gets amazingly loud.
It's a shame because otherwise the audio design is rad, especially in cutscenes - clearly a lot of love went into it. With some technical revision...

I recently picked this up for $5 and I approve. The initial "tower trial" from Frontiers' surprisingly meaty (and difficult) "post-game" Update 3 content. Pretty rad, platforming-wise, but unfortunately the game's controls have a habit of not always doing what you'd like them to, which can lead to some frustration while playing. Still, the game is rather unique to take in, and I've enjoyed my time with it!

Raw footage of a Proud Difficulty Boss Quest, recorded a good 60 in-game hours after the last video. This game is a bit more Monster Hunter and less Phantasy Star Online than I was expecting - endgame content is almost entirely focused on boss fights, which I found a little disappointing as the "full" areas you run through in story mode are awesome.     Here's a fun tip: if you're tired of being jumpscared by your foxBots falling out of the sky, simply change the ai_telemode and you're good to go. I prefer ai_telemode 64 so whichever key does what key 64 does can stop them from whatever they're doing so they can follow their leader.

      Just using a controller. As for the motion sickness, you just get used to it after some time with a headset. :) I also played a lot of VTOL VR flying the chopper, so spinning out of control isn't unusual for me. lol

      Honestly no idea - my guess is the cars themselves are a bit jittery due to network sync (see other car at 2:45), and the "smooth cam" option used for recording made it (ironically) worse trying to interpolate between jittery positions in motion. You used to see similar behavior with menus in-game if you opened them at high speeds, but this was improved and no longer an issue - so I'd wager this recording might also look much better if made today.

      It's possible! We're gonna need AGI (or at least good enough to achieve full automation) though. Not enough _human_ labor to build one of these, much less mass-produce them. Also it'd be a really dangerous construction job. AGI timelines look short enough so far

    Nervig ist dieses blöde herumgezittere, hat der nie gelernt still im Auto zu Sitzen.🤣😂😅 Da muss es wohl noch einige Verbesserung geben um solche Störungen zu vermeiden wie durch Wände zu sehen . Um in einer Umgebung schon fast wirklich drin zu sein müsste die betreffende Person einen Ganzkörper Anzug mit Brille haben einschließlich ein Laufband wie im Film : "Ready Player One ". Schade nur das man bei solchen Problemen mehr Aufmerksamkeit schenkt wenn es um Ballerspiele geht. Aber vielleicht kommt es noch wenn in Zukunft solche Riesenprojekte in der Realität wirklich in angriff genommen wird. Schließlich will man ja wissen wie es aussieht wenn es fertig ist oder ein paar Änderungen vornehmen bis es dem Wunschvorstellungen entspricht.😊

      We didn't go too far up in this visit, but you really can go all the way around the station in a loop. In fact, if you use an avatar 10km tall (it's possible! Or "playspace move" up 10km), you can talk to people upside-down on the other side of the ring.

      Gravity weakens as you move towards the axis in the center, but I wouldn't know what to expect, if you were flying straight "up.." Would you travel faster, as you rose up..?! Could a digital model be made to even express that..?!

      @@user-tp9gy8kt2q No, the speed would be the same as one started with. There is no gravity "field" in this situation. If you were in a ground vehicle secured to a rail and traveled in the opposite direction of the station spin at the same rotational speed then all sense of gravity will be gone and you will float up with a slight jump.

      Keeper, This "same rotational speed" would have to be almost 500 miles per hour.. I seriously doubt anyone would simply "float up," if they leapt from your very fast moving train.. No (science fiction) artificial gravity field is involved here, simply rising through whatever atmospheric soup that would be contained within the cylinder. Remember that this air will be moving (part of it anyways) relative to the "ground speed" of the cylinder's inside surface. Will all of this churn into an unbearable hurricane (within this large airspace), or will it flatten out into a homeostasis - much as the internal atmosphere of a vehicle moving at high speed? Would we need to build baffles to create dead airspace? How much effect would be caused by changes in temperature, and pressure..? With an air mass of this size, I would expect SOME atmospheric effect. All of this will be figured out before anything this size gets built, but it is fun to imagine all of the peculiar effects that could be experienced within an enormous cylinder habitat like this.

      @@user-tp9gy8kt2q The only force involved in a rotating o'neil space cylinder to provide gravity is the centripedal force. Only something with immense amount of mass can produce a gravity field and there is no technology we know of that can do that in our current science.

      Keeper, I don't know where you got the idea that I ever implied anything besides the spin gravity that is integral to the design. I was trying to move the conversation AWAY from your mention of a science fiction gravity field. I am more interested in the movement of air within the habitat, and how temperature, and pressure will work with/against the spin direction. As you mentioned with your high-speed rail reference - zero gravity might be achieved WITHIN the vehicle (train), as long as you were traveling opposite the direction of spin. Because it will be happening at more than 450 miles per hour. You would have to negate the 1 spin per 2 minutes, for the full 1.0 gravity. The concept of air currents (moving inside the habitat) that rise and fall because of temperature and pressure differentials, are very interesting. How might we direct them otherwise? Would baffles (created by superstructures) be needed to move wind where we would want it to go? Until larger scale tests are done, I figure much of this will remain a fascinating mystery.

    So, if you were constructing a building inside one of these, would it have a slightly curved floor? Would the walls not be parallel in the ZX or ZY planes? I think both would have to be true. A perfectly flat floor would feel like it was sloping downhill on the sides, wouldn't it?

      Look at the scale of it, you would need to have pretty precise equipment to even detect the curve on the scale of a building. Also the slight curve is also a thing om earth. For even a large building, building flat wouldn't be noticeable.

      ​@@Cyberwar101 Architects do have to consider the curvature of the Earth when designing very wide buildings. There is about a 6 inch drop for every 1,000 feet of length. For example, the Amazon Warehouse near my place (east Mesa, AZ) is more than 2,000 long.

    I noticed in the video that the bot exhibits some degree of self-preservation (i. e., at 3:06 foxBot Tails swims to the water's surface when low on air). Will a bot perform similarly in other scenarios, like waiting at an air-bubble generator when it can't feasibly get out of the water?

      To some extent, yes - bots will seek out currently spawned air bubbles, though they won't wait around the bubble-spawners themselves. They'll also only do this if they have less air than the player.

I wonder how far this goes-if a bot will avoid fighting Buggles if it has more air than the player, or if it will take an Elemental or Bubble Shield to sustain its own oxygen (provided the leader already has a shield).       Try adding a bot number (shown in `listbots`) to the end of the command - that will use it on a particular bot instead. For example, `overrideaiability 2 1 5` will make bot 5 act like Tails, regardless of which character its using.

      Currently, I'd say the mod is "complete" - I'd like to return to it some day, to explore more modular behaviors and gametype support, but haven't worked on it since early 2022 (for the game's 2.10 release) and no further work is planned at the moment. Sorry!

    This really is amazing to behold. I'm sure the conceptualization takes some effort, as you described some of the differences between this particular model and so many other "regular" models. Thanks for this inspiring piece of work - it really helps people to conceptualize the grand scale of an Oneill cylinder. I look forward to every new rendition of an Oneill cylinder, and this truly is the NEXT LEVEL up.. I also look forward to the (collective) competition of game designers to build this type of setting into their next games - because it is amazing and it blows people's minds. Seriously, folks cannot wrap their heads around the Oneill cylinder concept, but this (especially in a VR setting) puts them into a place where they can begin to comprehend the true magnitude of it all. WE are all used to cities and landscapes taking a mundane, monotonous and boring path forward from any starting point, but this concept demands higher levels of thought to occur. Thanks again for sharing this amazing and thought provoking vision of the near future - a concept that has some practicality worthy of further investigation and development. It is a stunning visual masterpiece, and I can't wait until the next rendition blows ITS doors off..

    How are you using this without spit screen and how you get a bot

      This particular post might help: mb.srb2.org/threads/foxbot-exai-based-multiplayer-coop-bots.30044/page-2#post-529430 You basically just want to alt+tab and run another instance of the game as a bot. Let me know if you're still stuck after!
