Thanks for the video. I'm a teacher, and last day of the school year/teacher check out day, I came home early and decided to feed the livestock. Still wearing work attire, I slid on the 10* slope from hay-barn to pasture, gravel road, cartwheeled, landed on right shoulder and palm (I still don't understand the physics and physiology of that) It took me about 10 minutes to get up. (for reference I'm 55.5 years old).... that long to decide "maybe I didn't break a bone?".... I had a perfect outline of the half-golf=ball-sized bit of rough-edged gravel etched into my palm. Next day, bruising over *entire* palm, particularly the ulnar-wrist corner of the wrist up to the thumb-forefinger region of the palm. But it was nothing like that time I broke a leg. So all my big and small bruises fded away, the skin punctures healed. I had only one pain that persisted. My hubby says he thinks it's just that I'm old, so little hurts take forever to dissipate. But it's now 3.5 weeks. since I fell. The Hook of Hamate region of hte palm hurts like holy heck if pressed, I can't shift my car into park, open or close doors, steer or pick things up without significant pain. After research online I tried the two-finger pull test. The pain in the one bruised part of my palm quickly went to a 10 in triplicate. So I decided to (Finally) see a doctor about the fall. (don't judge, I'm a teacher in a country toat doesn't value educators, and (newsflash( teachers may have a lovely 10 week "vacation" in the summer, but what it really is, is a 10 week period where you don't qualify for unemployment, don't get a paycheck, and despite low salaries, seasonal income is way Way WAY *WAY* more unreasonable. Also the cost to see the doc is huge) .... that was Friday 7/5... I'm waiting for the ex-ray results which include "go here for a brace" or "go to see the ortho docs in town". Even though I asked them to get the carpal tunnel view on the ex-ray, they didn't bother wiht special imaging. So I predict that (A) it's broken, (B) they'll get me a brace, (C) in 12 weeks they'll refer me to an orthopedic specialist, and (D) within six months of the injury they'll finally admit that I broke my hand, need to remove the small bone, and close it up with six or eight weeks of therapy I can't afford just to get back most of my former mobility.

Just got diagnosed with a broken hamate bone after an MRI scan. Crazy but I feel nothing in the palm but only in the swing when I come through the swing in my wrist. Also when I throw my glove hand would sometimes hurt at the wrist. Such a weird injury but glad to know what it actually is now!!

Lots of times it requires mri or CT scan but baseball or golfers need to push this with their Dr. Many times it's dismissed. I broke mine and played with it for a month or two before we finally got it squared away. Needed a cast. Grip strength sucks. It hurts to tilt down. You explained it well. I couldn't pick up a bat or a club with that hand. And yea you explained it well. 👍

Hitting is outstanding Polish the footwork and fielding with more reps. I say another 7,000 ground balls in a span of 6-9 months. Definitely will improve Good luck 👍

Thanks for posting this! So helpful. I have a similar injury from golf and I kept trying to “play through the pain” and finally saw an orthopedic surgeon today and got a meaningful x-ray. Going for an MRI tomorrow and probably will need the same surgery as you.

my son plays college baseball and broke his hamate bone 3 days before the season he's in a cast now may need surgery. he lost his sophomore season. west thing is he had a shortened season his freshman year because of covid and his senior year in hs was canceled due to covid. so injury came at worst possible time. This is three years in row. I hope he plays next year.
