¡De nada! Me alegro mucho de que mis videos te resulten útiles.
Appreciate that you’re trying to stay true to the original blocks, as am I. Made my first block this week and I’m binge watching your videos which I’m really enjoying. Greetings from South Australia 🥰
Thank you for watching and great job on making your first block! It's fun to make them!
Love it:)😊
Thank you!
Beautiful
@@sugahfacecc thank you!
So glad I found you, I have been wanting to get started on my dear jane quilt for a while now but was unsure how to tackle it. I’m 72 and I enjoy hand sewing, always have. I find it restful and when I saw you were hand stitching your blocks I was intrigued as to how you go about it with such small pieces. I like your method of folding the paper instead of sewing through it and it gets a very precise result which I like. I look forward to learning along the way and start cutting into the fabrics that Ive been collecting, so thanks for sharing your expertise, its much appreciated, greetings from South Australia 🐨❤️
Thank you so much for your very kind words! How exciting that you're beginning your own journey into making these blocks! I'd love to see photos when you make some if you're willing to share. :) Happy stitching!!
Veronica, lovely video. Do you think Jane Stickle only used cotton scraps? And like you, do you think she only sewed by hand? I understand she was an invalid.
I'm not 100% sure on the fabrics she used in her quilt but the fabrics during the 1800's were natural fibers. Most clothing was of fine wool or cotton. I haven't seen the quilt in person and only have the images in the book to go by. With how small some of these pieces are in the quilt I tend to think Jane used all cotton. I tend to think she also pieced it all by hand. She may have used a treadle sewing machine for sewing the rows together, but this was before electric machines were invented. I know she quilted it all by hand from the photos in the book.
I am so enjoying these videos. I am just about to start my dear jane quilt and really appreciate the detailed tutorials you have given us. You have taken the mystery out of some of the more complex blocks and now I can’t wait to get started! Thanks so much! 👍❤️
You are so welcome!
What size needle do you use? I can't seem to find one that works for me at the moment, which leads me to believe I've not got the correct type.
I honestly have no idea the size of needle I'm using. 😳 It's been in my needle case for decades. The eye is very narrow so there isn't a lot of bulk that I'm pulling through the fabric. It's also long enough so I can load a bunch of stitches on the needle before pulling it through. I wish I could be of more help but I've had all my hand needles in a needle case for 25 years and the package information was thrown away long ago. Just try different ones until you find one that fits your hand well and you like how it stitches.
Thank you Veronica. I took a plunge today into Dear Jane and started with the inspiration from this block. Doing the triangle was quite a challenge!
@@lathasatyan5086 way to go!!
I’m so thankful that you’ve done tutorials on these blocks… some of them, like this one, are a bit tricky and I’m not sure how I would have done it without your help. Greetings from South Australia 🥰
You're so welcome! It's like we're all in a world-wide sew group! I love it!
Just want to say hello again. Am watching and rewatching your Dear Jane videos, love them all. They are so enjoyable and helpful. Thank you!

I wouldn’t change it. It looks great! 💙
@@annlittle6193 thank you! I'm not changing it either. Too much work went into it.
I like the way you put this one together, took the mystery out of it for me!
@@consolw you're welcome!
It’s beautiful!!😍😍
@@victoriapaetow4376 thank you!
Do you ever have it unravel at the edges when you subcut the blocks? Or do you make sure to backstitch at the corners?
@@consolw sometimes it can. If I'm thinking ahead I'll do little backstitching before I cut. But sometimes I do have to add a few stitches after I've cut to keep everything together.
Great tutorial, have not paper pieced before but I can see it makes sense to do it that way with this block. May start with an easier block till I get the hang of it.
@@consolw just go slow and you'll get it!
Thanks so much for these videos, I’ve been collecting my fabrics for this quilt and am ready to start. Have subscribed
@@consolw how exciting! What fabrics are you using?
@@sewitseamscreations I have a couple of French General jelly rolls which I think will look nice as they have that olde world look and the colours are not too bright.
@@consolw That will be lovely!
Well, I’m dreading this one! 😀 Thanks so much for the video, very helpful ❤️
@@consolw you can do it!
Very well explained, thanks! When you cut the second time your hourglass squares does the hand-stitching unravels?
I didn't have a problem with it but if I'm concerned about that possibly happening I'll make an extra back stitch at the end of the piece. I've done this after cutting on some blocks.
Thanks for this, I don’t think I would have worked that out on my own, 👍🥰
You're so very welcome!
Pretty:)
I got my eyes on you, brave lady
Wow! You did a great job on those triangles 👏👏
Thank you! 🤗
🤩🤩🤩
Thanks:) I think I already made this one. I have to double check. Nice explanations!!😊😊
You’re welcome 😊 And thank you for the nice compliment. My whole goal is to make the blocks easy to create.
Thank you for this ! I really didn’t know how to piece this one together 🤔 Not difficult at all….well, except the appliqué, which i need to practice a lot more. Thanks again 😊
I was a bit surprised myself how easily the block came together. Keep practicing and that applique will get easier and easier.
Merci pour ces explications 😊
You're welcome!! 🤗
Hi Veronica I was wondering what your opinion is on the Dear Jane Rulers? I was thinking of purchasing them. I have the Dear Jane book as well as the Dear Jane Add On for EQ8. Thank you.
The triangle ruler, I feel, is needed to get the right placement of the triangles to trim. You could get away without using the 5" square ruler, but it is nice that this ruler has the 1/4" seam allowance all around it. It makes trimming easier. If you're able to find the rules at a good price, I'd say it's worth it. Especially since there are 225 blocks and triangles in this thing!
Thanks for the motivation. 👍
You're welcome!! 🤗
Good tutorial using this method! And good to see you back 😊
Thank you so much!
Thank you for doing these videos I bought the Dear Jane book and rulers about five years ago I really wanted to start it but just couldn’t work out it just seemed so complicated, and then I found your videos I seen others before but yours have been the easiest to follow so thank so much
You're so welcome! When I first started making these blocks in 2008 (Yes, it really was that long ago!) I came across a blog that was filled with tips for making every block and triangle. I'm so glad I copied everything and printed it off because I can't find that site anymore. I look at those notes before making any block. I'd be lost without it and I'm happy to share that information with all of you through these videos. 🥰
Thank you🤩🤩🤩!
You're welcome !
Nice seeing you again!!😊😊
Thank you! It feels so good to be back to making blocks.
Ohhh… what a great memories… my son Paul, was Beast when he was in Hight School…☺️☺️☺️
Glad I found your video today. I started a few Dear Jane blocks several years ago, and I wanted to hand piece so I tried paper piecing but sewed through the paper and fabric. Not fun! Your technique is brilliant, and now I want to get my project out again and use your method. Thank you so much for sharing and helping me along. By the way, I am 74 years old and have been quilting and sewing since I was a little girl. Goes to show there is always something new to learn!
You are so welcome!! I'm so glad you have that desire to try making the Dear Jane blocks, again. I do love the slower pace of hand piecing these blocks and I think I learn something new with nearly every block. This is a fun journey and made even more so with new friends found here. ☺️
Hi, Veronica! Wow! You have a lot of projects on the burner! The play sounds so exciting. Theater is really demanding, but such a joy. I can't wait to see your crocheted afghan. I've dabbled in that technique and made a great bag. In my dreams, I'd like to make an Aztec rug in colorwork crochet. Usually, I like crocheting intricate laces or doileys from antique patterns, but yarn is also satisfying to work with, especially in the fall. And you're a knitter too! If I don't find you at the local fabric store, I'll find you at the LYS! :0) I have been so busy making Mrs. Stickle's blocks. Last time we talked, I had made 30, but I'm up to 58 now! It's never boring, is it? Thanks for letting us in on your busy schedule, and when you're all tuckered out, remember we're all behind you, cheering you on! ❤❤
Thank you for your response! Again I am truly enjoying your videos! Since sending my first comment, I did see your video where you were going to take some time off. I completely understand the need for time off! Hope to see you again when the opportunity presents itself!
Dear Veronica, thank you so much for taking us along on the making of your dear Jane quilt. Your videos are a pleasure to watch and very informative. I am completely new at thinking about quilting and you are very inspiring. I plan to send you an email at a later date with several questions. However, I do have a specific question regarding this block G-8. Could they focus fabric be applied application application style on the muslin? Thanks in advance for your response and please, please, please continue sharing your work!❤
Firstly, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so excited for you getting started in quilted! Enjoy the process as you learn and don't be hard on yourself at all as you work to acquire this new skill. Secondly, for this block you could most certainly applique your block. I'm a firm believer that in any quilting, and especially something like these Jane blocks, make it the way YOU want to make it. There are no quilt police. And if someone tries to tell you that you MUST do something a certain way, smile and then do it your own way. ;) You can e-mail me any time and I'm happy to help as I can. Happy quilting!
Thank you for your update. Love your Dear Jane tutorials!❤
Thank you! 😊 I'm so glad you like them!
Your family is most important! Do what you can when you can with the Dear Jane blocks. Put absolutely no pressure on yourself. We will be here.
Thank you! I appreciate your encouragement!
Hi Veronica, thanks for the update. You are a very busy lady! I do love the Dear Jane series but please don't stress about it. Do them when you have the time. Can't wait to hear about future plans. Susan
Thank you so much! It's funny how everything seems to be due at the same time!
I appreciate you showing how to do some of these blocks with traditional methods (rotary cutting, regular piecing). Not everyone likes paper piecing. Most of mine are done the way you’re demonstrating 😊
You're welcome! I've been enjoying making these blocks with hand piecing. It's taking forever 😂 but I've been learning so much along the way.
@@sewitseamscreations oh, good for you!! I haven’t tried hand piecing before, but admire those that can ☺️
I want to Thank you for your videos. I started following along. I made two blocks today. I have some catching up to do. Although I’m using my machine these videos make it so much easier. I really appreciate the help they provide. I noticed you attended the Sisters quilt show. I live in the Tri-Cities, WA. The northwest is a nice place to live.
That is great!! I'm so glad my videos are a help to you. I'm pretty excited that this year I'll actually have a quilt in the Sisters Outdoor quilt show. I've been wanting to enter for years!
Beautiful! Thanks for the video…now I know how to tackle this block 😊
You're welcome!! I'm so glad this helps. 😁
Beautiful store👍🤗
Hi, Veronica. I came back to this video hoping to get some hints on the appliqued triangles. I'm piecing BMP's C-2, which is very similar but made with diamonds instead of triangles. I can easily applique circular or rounded fabrics down, but I want to do a good job first time appliqueing those sharp points. Maybe someday you can show us how to turn those sharp points? In the meantime, I'll do some more research and see what I can come up with. This block you made is so precise. Your applique is amazing. ❤❤❤
Oh, boy! Those sharp points are a pain! I'm still hit or miss when doing them. I will see about making a video just on point applique and will do my best, but there is a lot of fudging that happens, too. LOL
That would be so incredible! I did manage it, and the 3rd one turned out pretty good, but there's a lot of bulk and they look and feel more like the end of a Q-Tip than a good sharp appliqued point! Would it be okay to email you a pic? You can tell me if I need to do it over again.
You can e-mail any time! I'd be happy to help. :)
