Sorry one separate comment - I wonder if you'd make a video showing what you'd do when making a custom OVR.
I can do that. Will add it to the mix for this weekend.
@@simnationbroadcastnews5750 Excellent!
Another great video, I'm in multiple online leagues (including hopefully your GMCFL soon) and I've seen so much controversy around what makes a good player at which position. There are some who say just get the biggest linemen, the fastest players everywhere else, ratings don't matter in run blocking.... my theory is that the game cannot handle custom playbooks, there's something about that that "breaks" the game because I'm watching this video and you're talking about coaches wanting particular types of plays or players based on their settings. But when you go to custom playbooks, logic suggests (famous last words I know) that you're now overriding all those preferences, so I think there's more to the coach playbooks than just the plays. I never use custom playbooks in solo leagues and find that things work pretty well, it's a nice balance of fun and challenge. But when I do use custom playbooks I rarely pay attention to the coach preferences for that reason, well why do I care what plays he likes to run, I'm overriding all that with a custom book. *What are your thoughts on that?* With Overall rating, totally get that for an individual player it's a pretty lousy measure. I think it can be used in aggregate, like comparing rosters by average OVR, it will overestimate some players and underestimate others but by the law of averages it will cancel out. Also I know OVR is more than just ratings. I once went into custom OVR settings without changing any of the values (thinking that this was the same as the built in OVR) and I was totally wrong, the OVR ratings changed drastically even though I didn't touch any of the custom values. P.S. What DDS calls playbooks are really "game plans." No irl team has multiple playbooks, the "playbook" is the universe of plays available. Oh well. P.P.S. At 18:29 how dare you issue Terry Bradshaw's #12 jersey? LOL 🤣
Great video, it's nice to see more of these and see how those settings work, I wish the developers would document this better. Very nice insight into the skill rating, that's very vague. I did have a question, the "Passing Preference" has been a source of controversy in leagues that I've been in. I've even heard the developers hint that "long" for example doesn't influence play selection as much as a QB will look deep first, will hang on to the ball longer, less likely to run with it, where short means the QB will look to get a quick pass off. The game at least in 24 seemed to be broken in a way that when our league put blitz plays available to custom playbooks, all hell broke loose you saw teams with 100+ sacks in a 14 game season (the NFL record is 72). I noticed that long pass preference is easily abused but the blitz shuts it down, so many experienced GMs lobby for blitz plays while the teams with good 95 ARM QBs don't want it because the long pass is almost unstoppable. I hope this is fixed for 25.
I think there is better balance in '25 with passing depth. I like that they allow for Commish to set a cap on Blitzing when you use the blitz playbook as coaches could use that as crutch on defense. For me, long passing has always been easier to defend (assuming you have the right players) as I drop into a deep zone plays with edge blitzing or a linebacker coming off the edge. The blitzing plays moved into a normal playbook is definitely an issue. We're going to release a new set of plays for the next season after I get done sandboxing them to ensure that they don't break the game.
@@simnationbroadcastnews5750 Great to know, I'd like to see those if they work. In multiple online leagues it's been a source of controversy that (at least <25) passing was overpowered, and the only way to counter it was with the blitz, which was itself OP so my league implemented individual blitzes which seemed to me at the time as okay you're taking one meta and just adding another, you're not fixing the long pass but now you have long pass abuse and blitz abuse and it got so messy we took blitzes out and still haven't found a solution. Do you think blitzes are OP in general? I think all of us just want a realistic simulation where the ratings and settings at least try to do what they say they do, and my biggest problem with the game by far is that not only is that not the case but it doesn't even seem to be a goal which I find disappointing to say the least. My litmus test is if a professional coach comes into DDS for the first time, they should be able to put together a winning strategy based on their real world football knowledge and applying that using the game's settings and ratings.
Great video, thanks
Thanks. Where does skill come into play?
Skill generally influences how well a player will play to the position (or to their ratings). All things equal if two QBs have the same rating but different QB skills, the one with the higher one will play more to the rating than the one with the low. Also, it influences how comfortable they are with the position. CBs with low CB skill with often be out of position or potentially get more penalties.
@ thanks very much 👍
@@mcnab4236 You are welcome!
Thank you for posting this. After listening to the entirety, I still have two main questions. If the overalls aren’t accurate/helpful then why don’t you use custom overalls so that you can more quickly analyze player value without having to diagnose each individual attribute? The second question is, okay, if your not going to use overalls then what are those minimum values at each attribute that you are looking for per position? Seems to me like the simpler method for player evaluation would be just to build custom overalls. Real teams do this. I would love to do this too. Would it work?
@@johnnymo350Good question. I think in single player, it’s probably best to use a custom overall to focus on what is most important to the player. I can do a video explaining that. In online leagues, it’s not as practical given that you have different coaches that place different value on different ratings, traits, and other factors of a player. You’d likely still find coaches out there looking at the individual ratings to determine what is best for their way of playing the game. It’s still somewhat lifelike in that real coaches place a value on characteristics of a player and measure the players against that, although most teams now place those characteristics into formulas that match OVR. I think it would be awesome to allow coaches to customize their OVR in league play but also understand how much effort and code that would likely be. Second question, I am speaking to minimum values for ratings based on the strategy that you want to play in the strategy videos. I may just make a new video where I talk about that separately as it’s important to understand that, even with OVR, as it allows you to get the most out of the game. Thank you for watching the video in entirety!!! It was longer than I wanted it to be.
Love the coaching staff depth. Anything that provides more strategy after playing so many years of strategy-less EA games.
I like the depth that coaching staff gives the game from immersion and would probably like it more if you were able to adjust the caps around coach staff, recruiting, and facility budgets better. Also, it felt repetitive when you had to first hire the whole staff.
Great video!! Do you have a mod list if you're using any?
Thank you! The only one I currently use is Slybelle's 2025 Real World Mod. Due to when the league file was created though, I can only use it for the graphic files. Tiger Fan's 1970 Mod is also a good one to check out.
@simnationbroadcastnews5750 Awesome! Yeah I'm gonna download the game today and the mod! How are the bowl games and awards?
@@seanharrell5567 Bowl Games matchup pretty well to real life. The awards line up well to the big name ones.

This was def a video I was waiting for. These are really helpful and informative please keep making more!
Thank you! I'll make a few more around a vertical attack, a heavy run offense, and then the 3-4 and pass defenses.
Great content
Thank you
Thabk you so much for this, ive leatned so much fron this and your other videos! Are you in a college multiplayer league?
Yes, I play (and commish) SNCFL and GMCFL at SimNation. And thank you!
Great video. I have a question about recruting with the new CF25 game. With so many coaches on the staff now, which pipelines should i focus on great, good, decent and minor ? I am starting a save playing as the Eastern Michigan Eagles a 58 prestige team. I understand about the recommeded list but beyond that i am confused. Should i only recruit in Michigan only and states near me like Ohio and Indiana ?
Thank you! I normally would focus on the great to decent pipelines as a start but would also push the minor states too. Location only really matters if the recruit cares about it - I would aim for the players that you feel that you need among those that don't have an offer.
is this game worth picking up? can i do multi season leagues and is the mod for the teams/players easy to access?
I think that if you have '24 then it would be okay to skip '25 unless you are in an online league where there are some necessary QoL fixes or you want to have the updates for recruiting and more position coaches. The mod for teams and players is realtively easy to access (Slybelle is a great choice).
Great Video
Thanks!
Are you at Simnation running an online league with this game? Trying to find one.
Yes, we have two leagues. GMCFL is a GM league on '24 where you can do anything but customize the playbooks. SNCFL is the older league which runs on '25.
I actually much prefer the 24 version of the game than 25. Font size was easier to read in 2024 and i dont like all the coaching positions included in this new version.
I don't disagree with that view. I think the coaching positions was more for single players and I think it's just more work for relatively little gain.
Hey Darren, ever done a video on how to construct a playbook based on a teams strengths?
I don't think that I have - I'll add it to the list.
This was great, thanks for doing this...
Thank you!
Great recap!
Thank you
Thanks for making this it was so informative. I had no idea that each rating was used by so many positions. I used to ignore things like hands for linemen or intelligence for kickers. It just goes to show you can't get a player who's good in every rating category, the thing of roster building is that you have to decide what ratings are most important to YOU and your scheme, per position. For instance, I use tight ends more for blocking, so speed isn't very important for me. For QB I place accuracy and intelligence slightly above arm. I'd say the two categories I use most universally are speed (except for OL) and intelligence. The latter is underrated and it's one of two that's important for almost every position. Hey I was wondering would you mind making a similar video for traits and personality? I'd love to figure out how to use a "bookend tackle" or what a cheerful chameleon is.
I will work on this next - trying to get back on track with posting with everything going on.
Thank you for this video. It's crazy how this series got seemingly dropped overnight by everybody, what happened? I thought it was decently established
I will be doing a new one for the upcoming season. And a recap from my lessons learned from Colorado and USC (the first time I actually made the playoffs when I took a team in the offesason)
Question- in single player how do you scout and interview players in the draft? Thanks!
Thanks Darren. Glad to get a good looking WR 👍🏻
Sorry to hear of the health issues and the loss of the beloved Family pet Darren, can't have been easy to deal with and hope you're all in good health now.
Is there guaranteed money in the game
Is there guaranteed money in this game
Cover CB Long = Spd-Agi-Hnd. Cover S = Spd-Hnd-Agi. Why the difference?
In long passing defence spd matters more as the WR has more space to get open. Agi is important second because of the cut/dodge factor (you can tell I care more about PD than INT). In short passing defence agi matters more because the other player has less space to get open and most short passes have cuts that the CB will need to make. Hnd matters here more to me here as there is a greater potential for an INT on the short pass plays.
Referring to Agility: When you say throw the ball short, you are saying not medium or long. Or does medium also fall into that category
Medium falls into that category too.
I would like to join but can't seem to get on to the slack to DM darrenzen
Thank you
How does portal system work?
Portal Players (Transfer) are only available during the offseason recruiting period. Generally they are players who decided to transfer from a team due to lack of playing time, coaching changes, or what not. You recruit them the same as you would a high school player with the main difference being you can see all of their attributes and skills.
Newbie to this game. Interested in joining the league but i am based in the uk woukd that be a issue?
It won't be a problem as we many European users in the league - in Germany I believe.
Love it!
How hard would it be to rebuild Philly?
Not too hard. They had a good corp but the beauty of the pro game is that you can likely rebuild a team in less than two seasons with the right draft picks and FAs.
I was really hoping to join your league before the draft, but I have been unable to.@@simnationbroadcastnews5750
@@simnationbroadcastnews5750Is ddspf24 an enjoyable game? I’m trying to get into another GM type game but I haven’t been able to find any interesting ones. From someone who has played this game, would you recommend it to someone like me?
Thanks for this insight. With the extra sale on Steam I was considering this years version, but think it still lacks some parts. The ones you mentioned and then some, but the devs hopefully will get it there. Maybe spend less time to always looks to be focusing on UI first and formost. I take shot at the new game, that was transferred from mobile to PC, Football Coach, this winter sale. Mods are very active on Football Coach and the devs working hard to improve. DDS have gotten another competition and better shape up. Well a little matter of the price difference should be considered I think. Bowl Bound is perhaps dead, but still pretty good.
Great recap as always 👍
Much appreciated
How do I join the league?
Easiest way to join is through slack (sim-nation.slack.com) and DM darrenzen with the team you would like (or join the SNCFL channel there).
@@simnationbroadcastnews5750 thanks
Yeah so scouting is more dependent on coaches now, there are no more scouting points and it wasn't clear what you actually do to scout. So from what you're saying, it'll just happen if you have good scouting coaches. My HC is a 4 star but the coordinators are both 1.5. Should be good enough. It's disappointing having less control over the scouting but it's good that coaches are more relevant now. It used to be that coaches didn't matter so much. I also wonder what a good coach grade is. It seems that coach grades tend to be lower in this year's version. My cutoff to consider a player was 25, now I may have to lower that to 20.
Would you recommend a lower tier club to join the league so that not playing the big boys as you learn?
I'd recommend a mid-tier team in a league like the AAC, MWC, or C-USA to start with. The problem with the lower tiers is that it's hard to learn when you have lower prestige teams as the talent differential can be a lot to deal with.
Wow
Yeah - when I saw the play call all I could think was please don't let this be an incomplete pass, drop, or where someone runs him down from behind. Great game - Frankie nailed his gameplan in this one.
@@simnationbroadcastnews5750 I was pretty sure someone will catch him that's what usually happens... Terrible way to lose a game this way...BTW: Some strange thing happened at 38:00
Yeah I saw that during the game - just chalked it up to a glitch in the animation. And agree on it's a heartbreaking way to lose a game.
Is there a link to the Discord?
In your GM only league: is it Coordinators playbooks and HC does depth chart and game planning?
It's coordinator only playbooks. Humans will be able to draft, sign free agents, sign coaches, and then set the depth chart and game planning. The play ratio though is set in such a way where coordinators will still be able to call quite a bit. Unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to lock the depth chart and game planning to the coordinators.
Thank you for the video
On Defense would skill and intelligence have about equal weight?
I think intelligence is still carries more weight as it's the key attribute for field awareness and has more impact on the defense being able to position to stop big plays or make big plays. Skill is more of an influencer around field awareness and is more key with how someone on defense plays their position and doesn't make mistakes in the play of their position (ex. penalties, misses, etc).
Thank you, I am trying to come up with some formulas based on your information and really appreciate your input.@@simnationbroadcastnews5750
Great information, thank you
Frustration at yearly high. DDSPF I hate will tr DDSCF again. I don't understand defense.
Defense is perhaps the hardest part of the game and in a pro league with a lot of difference in ratings it can be very frustrating. I'm working on a defense video for both college and pro.
Thank you for your videos@@simnationbroadcastnews5750
Do the recruiting points stack? Official, Home, Phone + Contact max recruiting?
Yes, they stack on top of each other. Some actions though can only happen in finite manner (like 1 official visit per player for the recruiting period or you can only have 25 total home visits each week).
