This is a video I created for my High School that demonstrates the benefits of taking Latin as a language. It also presents some of the language's history, as well as academic benefits. It also adds an emphasis of the role of Latin in the Catholic Church. A slightly longer version of the video will also be uploaded in a little bit.

It is sponsored by the Bell Telephone company, and I have uploaded the video in its entirety, including the introduction by a Telephone Employee. The quality is the best on RUclips that I have found. Mabel, I got the ill communication…
People do not realize what a wonderful Corporation ATT was.
Thank you for posting this wonderful program. I remember it vividly from my childhood in the 50s. I'm sharing it with my friends!
I grew up in Philly and never knew of this, but now it is one of my favorites, next to Charlie Brown Christmas. At 68 I long for those days.
Seems these lovely shows were limited to the greater Philadelphia area. A shame, people around the country would have loved them.
Cute and wholesome. Sadly a thing of the past in our country.
Nice to see this as i never did.
My mother was just wishing for “Central”, the local phone operator, and her “two shorts and a long” ring on the party line, from her childhood. 😊
Holy Mary mother of God........the most HORRIFYING thing i've ever seen........
I wish telephone companies were this cool today.
First time seeing this and I think it’s neat; definitely something to add to holiday movie list.
We grew up with these precious and innocent themes. I wish all those boys and girls that we grew up with remember what the Yule Season brought to our young hearts👼❤🙏🤶🎄🎅🙏❤👼
I neber seen this movie but i know i'm gonna ❤ it !
This definitely needs to be riff.
Great memories. That’s great
How delightful! Pretty amazing technology for 1950!
I remember this! I grew up outside of Philadelphia… especially fond memories of the sugarplum fairies and the gingerbread man.
I remember watching this every Christmas Eve at 5:30pm in the 1950's, on WGAL- TV 8 from Lancaster, PA. Then we would drive around looking at the Christmas lights.
WHYY used to run it and that’s how I got my copy.
Did Scourby get credit onscreen for his performance and narration? I didn't see it.
I don't believe this was aired on the West Coast.
I can't imagine a corporation today talking about Christ making it like in the past in AMERICA how far we've fallen!
No sound
I thought I’d never see the Bell Telephone sponsored Christmas marionettes again. Thank you for posting wonderful childhood memories now that I’m 72. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the stories in color! I don’t think a Christmas has passed by without recalling these stories. My memories are now refreshed!
Reminds me of Robot Chicken Christmas version 🤔
Golly! What a throwback! I watched this as a little kid and loved it. I know today we have computers and CGI, but I love this old puppet action. Crude, yes, but we tiny boomers were amazed anyway. Merry Christmas, everybody!
I agree!!!
I love the charming notion that the people here shared their house with a mouse that made a hole & their home in the skirting board. And, the mouse was shown the spirit of Christmas by the family, in that they never minded the mouse living there. A Merry Christmas And Goodwill To All...🎄☃️✨
Thank you for this post. During the late 50s and early 60s, each December, in Washington DC, this film was shown to us in elementary school .😊
Thank you so much for posting this!!! I’m in my 70sand it is so wonderful to have these memories and even the “Nativity” was read on “secular” tv! Amazing…. God was acknowledged !!!! He wants us so…
My PBS station in Philadelphia played this every Christmas when I was a little kid in the 80s and 90’s
Channel 12, WHYY!
Incredible ❤🌲
I would love to see this video upgraded.
iT'S 1822 we're not settlers any longer...
0:16 that’s Santa Barbara!
They showed this at my grammar school in 1956.
"On June 16, 1943, the Union Pacific completed the last section of a centralized traffic control project on 175.6 miles of single-track main line between Daggett, Cal., and Las Vegas, Nev., on the route between Los Angeles, Cal., and Salt Lake City, Utah." This is from the September 1943 issue of the journal, *_Railway Signaling_* -- with photos and diagrams and 10 pages of detailed description. "The first operating sub-division extends between Los Angeles and Yermo, Cal., which is 4.6 miles east of Daggett, so that the new CT.C. territory includes 4.6 miles of the first sub- division, as well as the entire 171 miles of the second sub-division be tween Yermo and Las Vegas. "The line is single track for the entire 625.4 miles between Daggett and Salt Lake City, but the section be tween Yermo and Las Vegas was chosen to be equipped with centralized traffic control because of the long heavy grades which necessitate slow train speeds and reduce track capacity. "The country is mountainous desert. On the 171 miles there are only about 7 miles of level track, this being in nine short sections. The grades range up to 1 per cent on approximately 65 miles, and are 1 per cent on approxi- mately 80 miles. Helper locomotives are required on 18 miles of 2.2 per cent ascending grade eastbound."
I had a 38 Dodge Brothers Business Coupe. I loved it. Wish I had kept it.
Even before A Charlie Brown Christmas.
A time of simple plenty.
When I was in elementary school they showed this every year. Loved it. Brings back happy memories.
I was born in the late fall of 1978 in central Kentucky and grew up in northern Kentucky. The first time I ever saw the 1950 classic, excellent live action with the extremely talented actor, actress, and the beautiful, acquisitively detailed, expressive, masterfully works of art The Mabel Marionettes, the miniature costumes, the miniature furniture, the miniature props, the miniature shoes, the miniature sets, the beautiful orchestrions, the beautiful life-sized costumes, furniture, props, shoes and set of an edited version posted on You Tube of The Night Before Christmas on December 6, 2023. Thank you very much for posting the classic, excellent 1950 movie The Spirit of Christmas narrated perfectly by Alexander Scourby, sponsored by the Bell Telephone Company showing them making braille books with detailed, excellent miniature Christmas props for children and providing Christmas gifts for Children with the Story of the Nativity in its' complete unedited entirety! I have enjoyed and loved it! Merry Christmas 2023! Happy Holidays 2023! Peace on Earth! God Bless Us All! All Kinds of Blessings, Compassion, Empathy, Friendships, Forgiveness, Generosity, Good Cheer, Good Health, Goodwill, Happiness, Hope, Joy, Kindness, Laughter, Love and Peace for Us All! Happy New Year 2024! I now have a new classic Christmas movie to enjoy!
Such a shame that they don’t have programs like this anymore! It makes you wonder how something so beautiful and meaningful could just be extinguished and replaced with what’s on TV now! I’m so thankful I grew up in the 50s and the 60s! Thank you so much for posting this! Merry Christmas and happy new year everyone! 🎄🎉🙏.
Excellent 👏👏👏👏👑🎄🎅👼
Watched this every year as a kid in Pittsburgh.
It was either the late 80s or early 90s that I first saw this
Watched it with my sister in Wilkes-Barre Pa. A few years ago WHYY in Philadelphia offered it as a premium for a donation, which I happily made. I sent the DVD to my sister who shared it with her grandkids. Thank you for posting!
Lovely stories -- and told so expressively, with those little puppets. Merry Christmas!
I remember this at home and also elementary school. Takes me back to my childhood and fond memories of those magical days.
Latest research confirms that Major Henry Livingston, Jr. wrote this tale, not Moore.
