Recorded at Sheffield in Studio A by Fred Derby on 2 inch reel to reel. I remember how hard it was for Dave to get the double bass perfect. Since it was analog tape we had to play it PERFECT. Easy enough for a guitarist but perfect double bass kicks for almost 5 minutes. All it took was one slightly off kick and it was a no go. While I always liked my guitar solo Sturgill knocked it out of the park. Sturgill was the guitar god of Bel Air. The greatest most talented natural virtuoso I have ever seen. Even my ex-wife who is a classically trained violinist and extremely hard to impress was blown away by him.

I wrote this song in 1989 or 1990 when I was 15 or 16. We had this girl we asked to join the band who played keyboard. The problem was that although she played really great if there was sheet music, she had zero clue if there wasn’t and couldn’t improvise. So I jokingly wrote “Poor Little Julie” in like 2 minutes. When she came to practice we changed it to “Johnny” and it’s been like a virus ever since. This song has a life of its own. I’ve heard kids that I have never seen or met play this song live with their band within the last 5 or 6 years! We always hated this song because it wasn’t like our others but it’s not so bad now that it’s so old.

This song was actually called Survive. There is another Dreamseed album that was finished but never released called Another One Of Those Daze. The best track on there is called Silence. How did you get this stuff!?!?
