    Hello! Nice video! Where did you find that storm jib?

    its great. If you'd gone 6:1 you could use it to recover a MOB

    Learned this when in the Navy. Never had a need to do it on a boat of any kind but have used mousing techniques here around the house. Nice video.

    Any idea of the approximate weight of the life raft; i.e. how much weight were you lifting with this 4:1 purchase? Thanks!

    • @nomadsailing1
      @nomadsailing1 Год назад

      Hi @mic982 , it's about 50kgs I think.

    • @mic982
      @mic982 Год назад

      @@nomadsailing1 That'd be ~110 lbs. It looked heavier. So, with a 4:1 purchase does that mean you are "lifting" about 30 lbs.+- ? Nice. If so, then my 26 hp. garden tractor should be able to pull 2000 lbs. upward (with this setup) since it can easily pull a 500 lb. weight. The tractor weighs about 830 lbs.

    What size line are you using for the Wallington-Barden system? Do you have a link for more details? Seems to be a simple DIY set up that can be easily repaired when needed.

      Hi, i think we used 4-5mm Dynema for the strops/hanks. It works pretty well but I think if we modded it any we'd replace the tubing with parrel beads/balls.

    You're sending this off to a rigger to spice an eye in the end? Why don't you just... "Dyneema" Oh I see. Carry on then.

    Hi there! I just want to point out that Harken says that you shall not put greas on the small rollers only on the big cogs, there are at least to different info video clips here on youtube, in one they say that you can put a drop of oil on them instead and in the other they say that you shall not out anything on.

      I don't know but I think that the no lube recommendation applies to later winches with plastic rollers. Not sure though.

      Hove-to, under power ... yes and could be done moored if the wind/tide work for that

    Ken, This is an example of a Bow Spring. If you are interested in a Stern Spring this is worth watching !!! ruclips.net/video/BdDmJ8J2hnA/видео.html

  • @johnhayford5946

    Better than others but but of emphasis on de-powering the sail. For example what I really want to know is how to reef when downwind sailing and its too rough to turn and head into wind. Obviously at this point it's a bit late to reef but a common problem. Reefing under (sail) power is difficult and not advised but sometimes necessary. So how's it done ?

  • @TheZenken66
    @TheZenken66 5 лет назад

    The RYA definition says that this is in actual fact a stern spring . It is named after what it does rather than where it is , the line from the bow to shore springs the stern out

  • @whitefields5595

    Good point about an extra line to hold the reefing line to the boom.

    The hatch should have been closed. Crew on the cockpit roof could have fallen down the companionway.

    At what point would you include deviation to this process?

    • @nomadsailing1
      @nomadsailing1 7 лет назад

      If there is significant deviation it should be applied before variation (and any leeway effect). Process of converting a compass course steered to a true course that can be drawn on the chart is: Course Compass - apply deviation to give: Course Magnetic - apply variation to give:Course True - apply any leeway to give:Course True that can be plotted on the chart.
