Annual Veggie Beds - Little Bit of a Disaster
Yes! My mom has these right where I park and they're so nice even through freezing temps
@@saladnander3690 Didn't realize that they would bloom this late. Most of the flowers haven't even opened yet.
The girls are hiding them from you 😂😂😊
Hahaha yeah, they can be sneaky!
Nice
Cool 😎
Hope you get more viewers next time. Another self sufficiency channel just ended. So you may need a later start time.
That's fine. I accidentally had it scheduled for tomorrow. Setting it as a premiere might change how RUclips pushes videos?
My chickens are on vacation. 0 eggs the last few days.
Yeah, they need a rest after working so hard all year:)
Looks sad.
Yeah Fall is a sad time for Peach trees
Good idea! I do it also. 👍🏻
Good to know I can buy fire bricks if I ever need some. I just got home from voting. I hope you voted, to protect your little food forest from rediculous politicians' ordinances.
@@hoosierpioneer They usually run out of stock quick but they 4 bucks a piece
I always mix my ash with maybe some peat moss and some sand or any kind of dry dirt. But you're so correct about how it we'll get rid of any kind of pests
You can use Melalueca's Sol-u-mel too. Dilute and spray it on 'um & their bedding.
Okay, right. We've used that brand for laundry soap, but didn't know they had products for birds.
Bok bok bokking? That's hilarious!🤪🤪🤪🤭🤭
hahahahah thanks!!
Rainwater is great for plants. If I were you, I would just add a debris filter the top of the hose and then use the barrel to fill up my watering can. A first-flush filter might be useful if you often have long periods between rains when your roof is likely to collect a bunch of dust and stuff, but it's probably overkill if you're just using this to water your plants. You might also consider hooking up a drip irrigation system from the barrel. If it doesn't have enough pressure from gravity, you could add a small pump.
@@mrdeanvincent I would like to do a drip irrigation system to my veggie beds, but I would have to move the barrels or get some put next to the garage
Beautiful!!
Beautiful!!
I have two rain barrels and a sloped yard. The first barrel is at the top of the slope, catching water. It has a 50ft hose going from its spigot to a a second barrel on the other, much lower side of my property. There is about 6ft of elevation change between the two barrels, so one fills the other quite easily. Mine are different than yours; they have open tops with a mesh covering to keep bugs out. So, in order to stop the top barrel from overfilling the bottom one, I installed a toilet float valve. Once it's full, the valve cuts off the flow. This works really well for me because I can fill a watering can in about 30s and by the time I'm done watering the barrel has replenished from the higher barrel. I did not rely on my city water AT ALL this year; those two barrels were enough to water about 110 sq. ft. of garden space. Each is about 100 Liters. Mind you, I mulch heavily to help retain water. But even so, there was a week in August where those barrels ran dry. Luckily, I was only one rainfall away from having both refilled. I don't have a filter and only use the water to water my garden. I would not recommend drinking it because of the chemicals in your shingles. Even air pollution can get in there; some statistic I read stated that the fist 10-15 minutes of rain is rather contaminated with particulates due to air pollution. So that'll end up in the barrel, but your soil is perfectly fine with it. My barrels do get algae growth because of that open top design. The mesh on top of the barrel is used to filter water coming from a down spout, so it collects a lot of leaves, bugs and stones. EDIT: I ran a hose from a full rain barrel across the yard and it had enough water pressure for a slow trickle. I wouldn't expect it to be good for a drip system, you'd need more pressure.
I'm no expert, but for gardening, ideally you want the water going in to be screened of debris and such, the cleaner your barrel and water going in is, the longer it can sit; the longer it sits the more prone it can be to contamination, so don't forget to use it/drain it out and clean it at least once a year. The spigot you have is great for draining/cleaning the barrel but get yourself an electric pump you can drop in to run sprinklers and hoses; there are a ton designed for pools. My little 1/10HP pump runs a single sprinkler great, I plan on going to a larger pump and connecting that to a splitter with different zones I can switch to. I use the rain water I collect only for our brutal summers where we get a week of nothing but rain followed by 2 weeks of brutal dry heat; then clean the system and close it off in the winter months. It's sort of a hobby that can help save on my water bill. :]
@@ThePugSmuggler wow, that is impressive. My food Forest is pretty well protected against needing to be watered but my veggie beds need regular watering. Maybe I'll look into something similar to what you said
@@GrowWithGordon.JamesPanyan Glad I could help! You can snag and install a sprinkler system in your garden beds (use the ones with 1/4" tubing or smaller so you can cover more area without needing too much more pressure). Run it to your hose bibb and put a splitter so you can switch between your house water and your rain barrel/pump. Add a small back flow preventer to your house bibb so you don't get any backflow and you're golden. :]
I named my black copper Maran "Lucy". She's such a great girl too!
Night night time. Stay safe ladies 😊❤
That is a buck rub. He is not eating them. Rubbing his antlers
Oh that makes perfect sense!
They ARE very pretty. I miss the black ones. Somehow I ended up with all red last time. So sweet, being so gentle picking something off the other one’s face. Too cute!
They are really sweet and we were surprised at how big they got.
I've never heard of the fireball!
They are a cool idea and adds a little bit of protection

Beautiful I love cosmos as well
Do those drop seeds and create youngsters in the spring? I just planted some this year and from what I remember when I planted them the last time 25+ years ago I thought they spread pretty good. Keep me posted, brother
@@ryankoogler6172 I hope so. I have been watching them and they are still opening new flowers.
What are fire extinguisher balls?

Try Strawflowers
@@johnhenry2265 Okay, I'll look them up, thanks!
Loosening it up with a hose , at the same time you’re watering it too. This year I’ve found out the best results for transplanting or pruning trees or berries, is when the flowers just start blooming. Being gardening now for 8 years.
@@elliotduncan1052 That's a good idea, thanks. Some of the roots are at tight right-angles that they snapped when I moved them. It is a pretty large tree and it is Fall, so I think it should recover.
Looks like there's still plenty of roots on there. You shouldn't have to prune any off the top. Just keep the ground or soil moist but not soggy.
@@richardroberts910 Okay, great. I'm glad our fall will be mild this year.
Kudos to you! I often buy trees and plants that the stores are ready to throw away. All the plants need is some care, I can usually save most of them. Roses are the most difficult for me. Keep up the good job!❤
@@odeliagutierrez8060 Thanks! We had gotten a few peaches and apples from Walmart last year. We did a hard prune this Spring and they have bounced back really well
@@GrowWithGordon.JamesPanyan I have about 10 fruit trees in large containers, however they didn't bear much fruit this year. The small amount I did get was decimated by squirrels. 😭😭😭
As someone who has worked with bonsai for 34 years, I would say, yes, you can saw like a third of the root system off, but do it in late February. That will give them the best chance to recover.
@@richardroberts910 Yeah, it is a bit risky. I've never seen a tree this strongly root bound. Do you think I should take some off of the top of the tree, now that broke some of the roots?
@GrowWithGordon.JamesPanyan I wouldn't. It could end up stressing the tree too much. I alternate root pruning one year and branch pruning the following year. I could go into the science of it, but it would take up a lot of room here. Just make sure it has plenty of water since the root system has been compromised.
Also zenias and cone. The flower heads are full of seeds just dry or catch when dry and spread where you want them. Poppy. ,pansy reallygreat in fall and just brush the snow off and the flower just smiles back at you.
I want to know how you started all these at once
@@judyhowell7075 I bought root cuttings from Amazon. I have also dug up some of my own plants and planted those root cuttings. I have another video about it that shows how I dug them up and planted them. Super fast and easy to plant
Do you sell roots?
@@judyhowell7075 I haven't and used to just get them through whoever was selling them on Amazon.
