Another great selection with plenty of old adverts for me to reminisce about! Always look out for your uploads and hope that one day you may post the ones I have been looking out for for such a long time - sthe Famous Names liqueur chocolates ones with Terry Thomas where he says something like "We go though the same thing every year" after the shopkeeper lists off a load of celebrity names to him!
As someone who grew up [after leaving my native London in my pre teens] in Selly Oak and Bournbrook [the shadow of Birmingham University], who has actually stood IN that lecture theatre, who is friends with Sonja Kristina and whose mate Don is the agent of both her/Curved Air AND Chris Farlowe/Colosseum, this is an extraordinarily welcome find. Along with 'Starmaker' and 'Return To Waterloo' [The Kinks] 'Zero Zero' [Mike Batt] 'Three Minute Heroes' [Brummie popsters Fashion and assorted 2 Tone acts] 'Adventures Of Son Of Exploding Sausage' [the Bonzos] 'The Looking Glass Murders' [Bowie] 'Orion' [Richard Barnes] 'Glitter' [Toyah Wilcox, Bilbo Baggins] 'Jumping Bean Bag' [starring David Dixon and Denis Lawson as members of the fictional 'Slag Bag'] the series 'Jangles' [Hazel O'Connor] and two productions I have NEVER yet been able to find starring Julie Covington, 'Great Big Groovy Horse' and 'Censored Scenes From Hong Kong' [if anybody has EITHER of 'em, send 'em over 'ere now] this represents TV-financed Brit rock operetta at its most outre, and I'm glad it still exists. I wonder how many others we don't know about, or which have since disappeared from existence? [NB: There were a few similar cinematic outings during the 65-85 period too, including 'Gonks Go Beat' [mentioned by another poster below] 'The Ghost Goes Gear' [featuring the Spencer Davis Group] 'Never Too Young To Rock' [assorted glam groups plus Bob Kerr] 'Comeback' [Eric Burdon] 'Rock You Sinners' [various 50s rock n rollers nobody ever saw again plus jazz legend Tony Crombie] 'The Golden Disc' [Terry Dene] 'The Moon Over The Alley' [various Notting Hill/Ladbroke Grove crusties] and 'Popdown' [starring Brian Auger and Zoot Money] although the latter of those has also seemingly now 'popped' out of existence.
Ah, top quality, Vee-flicking, F. U. television. Brings back happy memories of unhappy times fondly remembered. I'm delighted that RUclips's puritan auto-censorship algorithms haven't worked out what the duck was going on yet.
I strongly believe after the program had ended Newsnight, most or if not all of the sellers of pirated VHS tapes were out of business or no longer trading in VHS tapes due to the strong evidence Martin Young from Newsnight had. Most of the recordings were taken off air from BBC, ITV whilst the bollywood films were taken from a film print.
£30 for a Pre-Recorded VHS tape in todays money that same thing would have cost you £3-4 this was the beginning of VHS, when VHS hit the market and consumers were ready to purchase a VHS VCR. It most likely would have been a 2 Head, 4, 6 Head VCR's were not around at that time and most likely a top loader.
With the current state of the world this series is fantastic, takes me back to the 1970's when I was 9 or 10 and watched this with my mum, heartwarming viewing from a better time
Georgie Fame Fans may be interested to know he was a special Guest at The Richard Thompson Show (w/full Band) in SF at The Fillmore Auditorium 11-8-24 for the (5±) Encore Set on Vocals & Harmonica. At 75(RT) & 81(GF) they were in fine shape. At a SWAP on 11-10-24 I heard Fame is Van's Keyboard Player. That makes sense as Van Lives on the other side (N) of the GG Bridge.
This video was probably recorded in 1972. A Clockwork Orange was released on December of that year. I would assume those that appeared on this programme are either very old or either dead.
In the 80's it was very common for pirates to give you a list of films or tv shows on paper. So you could see what they have for sale. Lots of rare films, and TV shows. £30 for 1 tape, it would cost £7.99 for a 2 PK tape or £20 for a 5 PK tape. The profits made by these pirates went into millions. They would copy 50 at a time the money they were making was huge and booming like crazy.
500 copies of Cinema Cinema if each copy was £30 thats £15,000 profit being made, Cinema Cinema never got an official release. I assume alot of these films that are on the list of paper are very rare.
I, like many other BBC engineers used to work on this :-) One day I had to 'tech review' a week's worth of shows. Floella Benjamin wanted to see them too so she sat in the VT cubical with me. We chatted a lot. I'm not sure now if that was the occasion I missed a duff edit on the review, but one went out requiring a rush re-edit before the repeat that day. Oops. Great chat though !
Why can’t flying be like that anymore!!!! I can just remember when BA served coffee from a silver jug into proper china. I must have queued but I remember the lounge being comfy. Best of all but I’m glad it’s gone now. Smoking 🚬. Before during and after the flight. Meals were bad but the wine was nice.
Ooooof, very good Ken!
You stills get coffee mate but not Heinz pudding tins anymore SU garden 🏆
Baird was a good publicist... his mechanical TV proved to be far inferior to EMI's electronic TV. Thank goodness that the BBC chose EMI

Miriam Margolyes before she became a National Treasure - so pretty as a young woman, too! Love her.
He got through that entire intro to the rebroadcast without a cut or mistake.

All frightfully, terribly posh.
这部剧曾引进中国,遥想当年,一言难尽……
The only thing this program reinforces in my mind is the fact britain is completely and utterly finished in 2024

Funny seeing a Smash advert without the robots in.
1950's right up to 1990's.

The actor playing Latimer is superb: a very natural performance.
These English people were so eccentric.
1970's, 1980's & 1990's mixed up RTE Ireland too & worldwide.
I’m guessing that this continuity is from 1985-86 or something.
Kodak, Walls Ice Cream & Birdseye adverts.
Late 1960's & Early 1970's adverts from Ireland & worldwide.

£30 for a football match, on VHS though the tape would cost at least £12.99 or £7.99 depending if its a multi pack. Huge profits for the pirates.
I wish my name was Hugo Faster then my life would have been a success. Oh well.

Did you ever get the opportunity to meet some of the other hosts? Like Brian Cant or Derek Griffiths?
For any Iron maiden fans. One of Jaspers jokes referanced charlotte's neighbour. 🤪🤪
The swinging sixties😇, Those Were The Years That Were😂
30 years ago this month, October 2024.
Joan Bakewell - such an intelligent communicator - in an age where women presenting were a rare sight.
He was in the Italian job.
Waffle that made no sense to me at all, so 8 minutes and 59 seconds was enough for me.
Pat coombs I'd forgotten all about her
I remember seeing this as a child my mother loved it
It is Tom Baker in that Xmas Philishave ad!
On the stolen speedboats, try questioning jim bowen😊
Yawn.
Is that Tom Baker in the xmas Philishave advert at 40:00?
No recap of the previous 4 programmes like episodes 5 and 10 were?

TIL Cuddly Ken (and possibly Joss Ackland) sold British Airways holidays to Americans, and I feel better for knowing that.
Unwatchable ham-fisted writing and direction. A sad misuse of resources.
Felicity Kendal! Sheepy, sheepy.
These Horlicks ads are wonderful. All great stuff in general, thanks so much for these.
