Walkabout # 38 : Harman Phoenix at 100
This week on walkabout we are shooting some Harman Phoenix again but this time we are overexposing it by 1 stop but having it developed as usual to see how it affects the overall look and grain of the film stock. The photos were taken on my Minolta X700, primarily with a 50mm lens

Interesting! It takes on a sort of hybrid look of expired Fujifilm Superia and Wolfen. I love how old fashioned it ends up looking at 100. Currently shooting through a roll set at 100 also and I can’t wait to see the results. Cheers!
@@KnobleKnives can’t say I’ve shot much of either expired Fujifilm or Wolfen but I have some of both in the fridge to get to for future videos so I’ll compare them when I do! Thanks for the input and good luck with your roll!!
بارك الله فيك اخي سيف رحمان how did you get these infrared beautiful photos did you remove the filter manually ? or was it difficult
@@amid_invests this camera has some ability to see IR on its own and I added a Hoya R72 filter to enhance the effect. As for the pictures they come out a little light pink but I just turned them into black and white Hope this helps!

It was also my favorite film. It was very cheap and had very nice colors. The new films from kodak etc look very gray and washed out in terms of colors.
@@dominikkarkowski I know how you feel, my go to after vista was Superia Xtra 400 but now they’re just repackaging ultramax for Fuji 400 :( Ultramax isn’t bad but I just shot some Lomography Color Negative 800 and I really liked how that looks so if you’re looking for something with that extra punch of saturation and contrast, I would recommend it!
looks like ultramax 🤔

Thank you for the support!!
I love shooting 250D! With a friend, we bought a 100ft roll and was amazing. The only problem is that there are no local labs where I can develop, so I had to develop myself. Which is pretty smelly and the chemical doesn't last much. But if I had a lab that could develop ecn-2 for me, I would switch to them! Also, I found some pretty neat configurations from Negative Lab Pro to convert the negatives that work flawlessly!
Yeah I really liked it! I’m also quite pleased with how these turned out but I’d be interested to see your results and chat about NLP options!
Kodak doubleX is great stock!!
Haha alright I’ll add your vote to the double x side
Keep it up, brother.
Thank you!
I just finished shooting with a black and white disposable Ilford. I'm nervous about the view screen, whther it got the framing right and when I pressed the shutter a couple times I noticed the camera moved a little. I'm excited to see how it came out though.
nice video will have to look into the filter...
The hood is a 36mm push on hood. You can also get 36mm push on filter to 49mm step up ring and then you could put 49mm filter's and a 49mm threaded hood on it too. That's the cheapest way to go !
Thank you for the advice! I was actually able to find out the filter thread size and get a push on hood a few weeks ago! Although it helps the flaring issues, they’re still present so I’m thinking the best option may just be to hold my hand out over the lens when flaring is likely

Very nice photos, I walk around and photograph very similar parts of Toronto to you!
Ooh cool! If you see me out there feel free to say hello or hmu if you want to shoot together!
YOO I BEEN TO THAT BETTER GIFT SHOP, fire video
nice shots brother!
Thank you!
How can reveal the negative of this ? I mean do I need chemicals to reveal the negative? I can’t find instructions for this I have the same camera
Hi! Yes you need chemicals to develop the pictures as this is a film camera. You can take it to a lab or purchase chemicals and equipment to develop it at home, this disposable is filled with a colour film that uses the C-41 process for developing. I should warn you that if you want to develop it yourself, you will need to break open the camera to get the film out and this can require a bit of force. The easier thing to do would be to take it to a lab or pharmacy that develops film.

is the nikon F50 possible to use manual lenses?
As far as I’m aware you can use most Nikon AI lenses but you will have to meter manually too. I don’t think non AI lenses work
@@saif9817 aa thanks alot.

Thank you so much!
Y’all got me craving a chicken burger now😂😂
whoahhh your audio quality is so fire.. what are you using for it?
It’s the wireless mic for the Dji pocket 2, it’s likely quite similar if not the same as the standalone dji mic

I’m sorry but at least now I can take you to the good spot because I’ve done the research
Keep shooting. I'd work on your compositions. Good luck!
Hi Saif. I enjoyed the video. I have just ordered one of these on eBay last night so was looking to see if I had made a fair purchase at £35 or $50 delivered and as it is boxed with lots of accessories, I am reassured. I am a bit of a CCD fanboy actually and this is my 13th Olympus, 11 of which are Camedias. I have subscribed and look forward to future content.
Keep doing your thing man, keep growing and working on your craft, consistency is key and you already have a good on camera presence!
Thanks! Will do!
love the shots
Thank You!
Great video. Old point-and-shoot digicams are fun whenever you can buy them for $10 or less. The reasons I like older digicam (typically pre-2007) are: 1. they are often AA battery powered, which I see as an advantage rather than a disadvantage; two non-rechargeable AA's are cheap; two high-capacity rechargeable AAs will give you huge battery life; 2. they are often a little chunkier in build, which is easier to hold, even though less pocketable; 3. they often had viewfinders, which I think are indispensable to outdoor photography; 4. you can sometimes find them for sale for bargain prices; occasionally people will give them away; 5. even the budget cameras were made to a fairly good quality, because they were made with some residual attitude from the 1980s and 1990s that electronics were high-end consumer products, and not disposable goods to be replaced every couple of years; 6. most photos are only ever shared online or digitally; a 3MP to 5MP camera will produce an image file that is fairly small in size but more than adequate for viewing on the web, especially on a screen of a smartphone; 7. nostalgia; 8. many camera manufacturers have abandoned the unviable budget point-and-shoot camera market; all that's really left is the high-end prosumer and professional market.
You’ve got such a good eye!
Dope vid man ! I just got this camera can’t wait to try it out but I have a question, how do you get the pictures virtually? I wanna be able to post them online.
Thank you! When you get the film developed you can ask them to scan the photos so you get digital files
@@saif9817 gotcha! Thanks man
Very helpful, thank you! Also lovely photos :)
My Lc33 keeps showing that memory card error, even though I try to format it … it still doesn’t work
Are you using a small enough card? I'm not sure what the maximum capacity is for the camera but you need to use a very small SD card, something like 2GB probably
it cannot use SD HC cards only SD or normal micro sd but only the old ones you are using a to new card!
how get that photos into your laptop?
You have to scan your film or your prints
Thanks Saif, another interesting video. I like and use Superia and as you say Superia Premium didn't seem to show much of a difference. Slightly cold and a distinct greenish colour cast. Reminded me of old family pictures we have from the 60s... nice!
I spent some time looking at the pictures after the video and in my opinion there seems to be a much richer rendition of reds in the superia premium, I think the picture of the cap in the tree at 5:50 shows this well
Thank you for the video Saif, really interesting and some great shots. I have an old Olympus C-2000z with the same IR capability and it's amazing how what might be a boring photo comes to life with IR, especially where there are sunlit trees with a few clouds in a blue sky in the background - very dramatic. I just wonder why it was possible over 20 years ago to have a camera which could take both standard and IR photos, are there any modern cameras that do the same? Otherwise its a question of an expensive conversion to IR only.
هل جربتها في الليل واضفت لها مصباح ليلي يعمل بالاشعة تحت الحمراء فترى كيف تبدو الاشياء
I'm hoping that my translation is accurate but I have not tried it with an infrared lamp or infrared flash, I don't have one or really know how difficult/expensive they might be to come by but I'll look into it! Thanks for the idea!
شكرا لك على الرد
thank you for this video , its really told me alot already ! the only question i still have is , ill be going to a track this weekend and the lighting inside is actually really good so i wonder , do you think i should use flash inside or not ? Maybe i should try the disposable camera settings on my real camera first to see what it might deliver ?
It’s hard to say without seeing the lighting, so I would recommend either trying the settings on your digital camera or just taking a light reading using an app to get an idea, even if you have to use the flash, it’s not very powerful so it won’t be very jarring for your subjects and will give you the added advantage of freezing the motion in fast scenes
@@saif9817 thank you very much for this fast reply! I'll give it a shot!
@@fedoremelianenko2404Good luck! I hope it works out!
this is amazingg, how did you properly expose these ?
Thank you! It was pretty easy since the F50 has auto exposure and I shot it in aperture priority most of the time
@@saif9817 that helps so much, i have the exact same camera and film <3 thank youu !
@@KerenNaomi No problem! I would recommend selecting the aperture you want to shoot at and seeing what the shutter speed reading is, if it’s at 1/2000 then you might be close to overexposing or might be overexposing, I can’t remember if/what the indicators for that are on that camera but I usually just check by stopping down a little and seeing when the value changes, if it changes on the first adjustment then you’re probably fine, but if it doesn’t change then you should stop down till it does and then shoot at one of the two apertures, either the one where it maxes out the shutter or the one where it goes down a little
@@saif9817 oh hey, this is super helpful! i'll try this out <3 thanks again !!
Honestly, I like the Agfa more in most cases
Great video! Always great to see more of your photos. The zine is fantastic!
Thanks Owen! Glad you liked it!
How do you know how many more pictures you can take?
There’s a display on the top which shows a bunch of information (mode, exposure settings etc.) at the bottom left corner of this there’s some brackets and that shows you the number of shots you have taken, how many pictures left depends on the roll of film, 24exp rolls usually stretch to around 26/27 and 36exp rolls go to around 38 shots in my experience but you’re guaranteed at least the number on the box
@@saif9817 to me it only says e in the buttom left corner
@@arioppenheim5044 hmm that’s odd it should only say e until a roll of film is loaded, are you sure it was loaded properly?
