I asked several people about this, it was claimed Melanie was only 15 making her the youngest Big 4 winner of all time. But in the videos of miss international her age stated was 18. Here's the truth. Melanie was born in 1964, thus she's really 15 years old when she won Miss international. During BB Pilipinas 1979 the organizers weren't strict about age requirement that's why she was allowed to compete. When she won BB Pilipinas -International she was originally assigned to compete in Miss Young International because she's a teenager, but because she's no good in English Gloria Diaz suggested she would be sent in Miss International (Gloria also trained her). Then during Miss International, her then manager Renee Salud falsified her passport changing her age to 18 and styling her to appear older to convince the miss international organizers. They only discovered her real age after she handled her crown the following year. Melanie already said about this in several interviews before.

I am shocked at how Melanie managed to win against WOMEN that are aged 20 - 25. Some of them were 12 years older than her, Can you imagine how scary that must be?She was just a teenager at the time but she carried herself like she was a grown adult and WON the crown. Hats off to her cuz I’m impressed. Makes me wonder tho, how is it she was able to compete Miss international knowing that the age requirement was 17 - 27 at the time? Wouldn’t they have not allowed her to compete? Someone correct me or answer.
