Long story short the 12 valve engine that we purchased for the Jeep wrangler is a dud! BUT we aren't giving up that easily. Lets go back to plan A and get the trusty 24 valve VP motor installed and get this thing driving!

Our weekend at Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge
Sawyer I work at Logan also down at CM1 I’m doing an LS swap on my jeep right now would love to discuss projects with you. On a side note I’ve run ARB for 20 years and love them most issues people have are with routing lines or pinching off the air that I’ve seen, my biggest issue has been a blown fuse bad delinked or fitting that loosened up
Hey John! That’s awesome man! I was over at CM2 when I was there in 2016-18. Shoot me a message on Facebook sometime! I’d love to checkout your project as well!
At this point iv wasted a few hours.. Keep making videos and ill keep wasting more! 🤣🤣
I wouldn't consider it wasted time! haha We're learning together!
How many kilos does that Cummins 6BT 5.9 weigh?
I believe the dry weight is around 1,000lbs. Im not sure what that converts over to in Kilos.
Do you think that it would be simpler to use the donor truck frame, modifying it to accept the jeep body
Ehhh possibly. I wasn’t 100% sure on the 4link front and rear setup so I purchased a kit from Motobilt that works with the Jeep Wrangler Frame
That song is Pickup man by Joe Diffie. I like this build. I have an 01 Dodge dually diesel that's mostly stock but still a beast. I would love to put one in my Jeep.
Dude the build is looking awesome!! Can’t wait to see it out on the road and wheelin!! If you ever come out to Moab or Sand Hollow wheelin I would love to see that beauty in person!! 😁😁
I appreciate it man! I’m located over in Southern KY but I’m really hoping to go out west wheeling within the next year or two! I’ll definitely keep you guys updated! 😃
@@Sawyer_Garrett awesome!! Yes! Do it!!
As you said, 5.9 Cummins swapped JKs are much more rare. I saw one that was listed on eBay for $70,000. ruclips.net/video/LUukWREZ1p0/видео.htmlsi=Hz169zhzAVuKSYaQ I don't know how long the Dana 30 ball joints lasted under that weight. My factory ball joints didn't survive 11 months under a 4BT in my JK!
Love this build ... More content longer videos. Hope to see wheeling videos frequently. Also I know Tennessee has a lot of awesome trails like wooly's off-road park to name one. Hope to also see it at the great Smokey Mountain Jeep invasion. In the future!!
Thank you! I will most definitely be at next years SMJI! 😃
I love the build. Excited to see it done. The song about u joint is Alan Jackson where I come from.
That’s the song! 😅 I’m hoping to have some wheeling content soon!
Put that p-pump on the 24 valve!!! I dare you!!!
It’s crossed my mind! 😅 Might be a future video!
@@Sawyer_Garrettoh and that song you were singing was Joe diffie pickup man!!! lol
@@pfess20 That’s it!! 😂😂😂
Great job on this build. What size radiator are you running? Working on a similar project myself, looks like that radiator fits in there well.
I actually found a 3 core radiator for the year make and model of the jeep but was marketed more for like an LS swap or Hemi Swapped Jeep. So far I have not had any over heating issues but I also have only driven it about 5 miles before pulling the engine again. Hopefully within the next week or two I will be able to put some more miles on it!
Thanks for the information. I have a common rail 24 valve in my, was worried about over heating. But hemi swap radiator is pretty much the largest rad I can find under the hood. That's what I will do. Thanks
Heck no
Why not?? 😅
I wana do that the a 50s power wagon
That would be sweet!
Is there any possibility that your vacuum pump system on your 5.9 has a leak? The vacuum pump exhausts into the crankcase, adding to crankcase pressure if there is a vacuum leak anywhere. The leak could be in the vacuum line to the brake booster or in the booster itself. An accurate diagnosis can save hours and dollars.
So I am running hydro boost brakes so no vacuum is actually needed. I plugged off the vacuum line on the unit but thought there may still possibly be an internal leak so I swapped the pump out with a new one and still no luck. I am almost certain it was caused from a head gasket failure from the broken stud I had found.
@@Sawyer_Garrett Thank you for sharing more about your thorough diagnosis. Was the broken head stud near any of the pushrod voids, causing compression to leak into your crankcase? You are wise to have a stronger than stock suspension for your 5.9 Cummins JKU. I have one with the 3.9 4BT Cummins and a heavy-duty Dana 30 from Teraflex. With the 4BT outweighing the 3.8 V-6 by only 350 pounds and with a steel bumper with a winch, stock ball joints were shot after 10 months of paved street driving. I had Dynatrac field-rebuildable ball joints installed and so far, so good. I understand that your 5.9 Cummins can weigh 1,200 pounds.
@@edwardhawran9406 Yes it was. Between cylinders 5/6. The head gasket appeared to look unharmed but the broken stud is literally the only thing that I had noticed. I am not an engine builder nor have I had a lot of experience with failed engines so it’s very easily for me to be looking over something. That was just the obvious failed thing and after talking with my machine shop and a couple other guys that do have experience in building engines that’s sort of the same thing they had mentioned.
So here is a serious question for you, now that you have gone through the majority of the 12V & 24V of taking it in and out of the Jeep body and chassis. Do you think it would be easier to have kept the engine in the donor truck and just figure out a mounting solution for the Jeep body onto the trucks chassis?? Or would you do it all over again the same exact way of mounting the engine in the Jeeps chassis and body??
That’s a great question! If I had to start from scratch from what a know now I would still keep the same Jeep frame and do it the same as it currently is but without all the trial and errors 😂 I have a brand new 2 post lift I purchased a couple years ago but have not yet pulled a trigger on building a shop. Once it’s built and I have a lift I will just remove the tub and that will make life a lot easier.
I’ve been waiting for a new video, I enjoy watching the build
I’m glad you have enjoyed it! I know it’s a lot of yappin. 😅 I’ll try to do better!
A man of culture I see, good work brother. Earned my sub
Sweet! Thanks man! 👊🏼👊🏼
Can’t leave us hanging with this build!!!
I’m about to make another Vid 😀
Badass
Thank you!
How Dare you!!!!!!!! LMAO 🤣😂
I am very thoroughly enjoying this series of building a 12 valve JKU, I am trying so hard to get to that point. My dream has been to have a 12 valve Cummins and a Allison transmission put together and now that I have a passion for the Jeep world I want to throw it in my build project whether it be a JKU, TJ, CJ. I haven't pinned that part down just yet, but keep up a great work!!!!
Totally awesome job , run a Cummings myself .
did you use factory wiring from engine to factory jeep wiring
I did not. I have removed 99% of the wiring from the jeep itself.
What tire size /axles ??
42’s and 1 tons
Did this get done?????
Yes! I’ll be making a new video on it soon!
Sweet build, an external reservoir and vent system are really important on these hydro systems, and a cooler like you mentioned
That is the perfect vehicle to go anywhere
👋👋
Hope your build gets the attention it deserves. Stoked to see the build progress.
Thank you! I’m excited about it! That’s good enough for me 😅
Yes sir!
Killing it man!!!
Thanks Stew!
Keep it going.! Love cummins jeeps
Thank you!
Give that man a Chevy. He can't be trusted with a Ford.
dream build without a doubt.
Mine too! When are we gonna start yours??
Wicked build. Kinda makes those hemi swaps look like child’s play You can clock your hydroboost. That might give you some more clearance
Thanks man! I’ll have to look into that! It’s been a process but the light at the end of the tunnel is near! I hope you’re subscribed to see it when it’s finished! 😃
Keep it up, man. This thing looks like it's going to be awesome. Can't wait to see it done
Thank you Chris!
Do you think there’s a realistic way to route a more normal exhaust without eating too much into the firewall? Every 12v JK I’ve seen has a hood stack. I’d love to give mine a 12v someday but if it would be too much trouble as a daily, I may just go for a hemi
I will try and do a more in-depth video of the frame and fire wall modifications that I had to do. You might be able to configure the exhaust in a way to where you wouldn’t have to modify the firewall in the areas that I did but this was my first time ever doing it. I would love nothing more than an exhaust running out of the rear but I haven’t found a way just yet without building a tunnel under the passengers front and rear seat similar to a transmission tunnel but for the exhaust pipe mainly because of the rear link bars.
Nice work!
Thank you Stephen!
Glad to hear it run, great content. I enjoy watching the fab stuff, I’m learning as well and watching different perspectives and techniques has helped me a lot. Can’t wait to see that jeep on some trails
Thank you! I’m ready to get it on some trails! Hopefully soon! 🎉🎉
awesome man! love the ole 5.9 Cummins.
Thank you! I do as well if you can’t tell 😂
Sounds great! Interesting build.
Thank you!
hahaha u said cumming
subscribed. slow down. capture the detail. Can't wait to see how it goes.
Nice work! I’ll be following to see it all finished up
Be sure to subscribe to see the rest of it! Hopefully will be on the trails soon! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I love you're doing, I hope you're adding some 3/4-1 ton axles to go with it...6BTs and 37s put some strain on stuff. Other than that, party on 🎉
Yep! Super duty Dana 60 upfront and 14 bolt in the rear sitting on 42’s and 20” beadlocks. 😃
Awesome man!! Looking good! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!!
awesome build so far,,, awesome skills man,,, I can't wait to see it completed. I dream of a 4BT swap in my 2015 JKU.
@4xfredwilliams did this swap years ago with a dodge 2500 that had flipped. He shortened thee frame in the center and reinforded it with sqpare tube then just had to do some firewall modification to the jeep tub. This might be a good resource because the idea of that 1000lb engine in the jeep chassis might be more of a compromise than intended. All that to say how those old peterson 4wd articles can help you make your dream come true. Keep on keeping on!
Can't wait to see finished
You and me both lol
Soon!
Bro…. I want one of these.! Been driving a stick 6.7 08 for the last 5 years and all i think about is swapping the body for a jeep. That thing should be sick to drive in the trails.! Show it all cause i have no idea what I’m about to.!!
