@@AlexKhodja oof yes I dislike all of Tav's options after Ascension. You can either flatout ask him to become a vampire, tell him you want his body (wtf?? after that act 2 confession?) and pretend to be morally superior to him as if Tav didn't stand right next to him as he carved Cazador up like a turkey (and couldn't have carved the runes without Tav's help). Astarion gained super-powers and Tav lost her brain lol Thank you for showing us this, I could never click that lol

@ yeah I never feel great clicking any of those either. My Tavs would probably ask him excitedly what his new powers are, if they can test them somewhere etc. It really reads like it was written by someone who didn't do act 1 and 2 Astarion.

I tried both paths and, for me, Spawn was so depressing. I first ascended him, after going back and forth for days how to choose because I *wanted* to ascend him but was scared due to all the youtube shorts and people on FB, Twitter and other social media claiming he gets abusive. I was so stressed until the end of the game, because the whole time I expected him to start shouting at my Tav, but... nothing. He was *so* sweet and protective. So I thought in my next run "okay so if ascended is so sweet, spawn will be even better." I mean, right? People claim spawn is so sweet and he heals so much and bla bla bla, so I excitedly kept him spawn. It was like a gut-punch. Instead of happily exclaiming he feels so alive, and he's free, and all the other happy sentiments AA has, it felt like all the joy had been sucked out of Spawn Astarion (and from my playthrough). He was so defeated, he was struggling so much. I found myself rarely speaking to him, I felt horrible, as if I'd taken away his joy. I kept putting off finishing that run and instead even finished a whole new playthrough with a different character who ascended him again. Seeing him run from the sun at the end was another gut-punch, he loves the sun so much and I've stolen even that from him. No one helped him either, we all just stood there, watching him run. While he seemed fine at the party in the end, I still dislike that whole run even though I had fun up until Cazador. Ascension is what he wants. And he is definitely not abusive. I won't keep him spawn ever again. And I'm also very happy about channels like this and iamkittybg3 where the truth is shown.

I also wanted to leave him as a spawn after hearing enough about how this is a good path for him and ascension is terrible, Cazador 2.0, etc. etc. But after the ritual, I didn't feel that Astarion was genuinely happy: he was depressed and continued to be afraid of everything, and when, after Nightsong's revenge on Lorakan, he said that "he feels empty," I closed the game for a while and began to search for information, and the more I found, the more I wanted to choose ascension. In the end, I chose to help him with his ascension... It was wonderful! Delight and joy🤩 He got everything He dreamed of. He became so confident (maybe even too confident, but I won't say that's a bad thing because he charged me with his confidence) He does not expect protection from Tava, he is ready to protect her himself. And his reaction when he could see his reflection... Frankly, I don't understand such unjustified negativity towards AA and the non-recognition that he is the same Astarion as SA🤷 I didn't see anything in Ascended that I hadn't seen in Astarion before Act 3. But spawn causes a feeling of strangeness, as if SA is an Astarion from a fanfiction lol.

No matter how hard someone tries to convince me, I objectively don't see any motivation for him to abandon the ritual if Tav doesn't roll 18 on the die. And Lae'zel and Shadowheart, of course, I understand that they kind of abandoned their powerful bitches, but why do they act and talk as if they had never served evil goddesses at all and did not kill and torture people for a sweet soul in their honor? What a hypocrisy.😜

I do like that the PC can influence the others depending on their actions throughout the game. However, what I dislike is that Astarion is actually the only original character who’s not influenced at all when it comes down to the ascension. Whenever the other origin characters are about to make a major choice, there’s an option where the PC can say that it’s the origin character’s choice to make, and then they will choose based on what has happened leading up to that moment. However, there is no dialogue option like that for Astarion, and he will always automatically choose ascension. He only won’t if he’s literally incapable of it or persuaded not to. You either have to kill at least 1 of the 6 siblings, have him alone when pulling Cazador from his coffin, only have the good origin characters around that won’t help him, have the PC refuse to help, or have the PC pass very high rolls to convince him not to ascend. If he’s alone with an evil character (like Minthara), then he will ascend with their help.

I experimented with this in multiple playthroughs, and I have found that it’s not true that he ever automatically chooses to not ascend. Someone started that rumor and it was passed all over, but it’s unfortunately not true. He always automatically chooses to ascend even if I told him to be nicer and tried talking him out of ascending whenever he brought it up. He’s actually the only origin character that will always choose to go for power no matter what choices you made leading up to the moment. The others can be convinced and all have a dialogue option where you tell them that it’s their choice to make and they choose based on the PC’s influence, but you never get that option with Astarion. He’ll only not ascend if the PC is there and passes a 18 DC for persuasion (or 20 DC for insight and then 15 DC for persuasion), if one of his siblings is dead, or of no one is there who’s willing to help him. But he’ll always leave the party if someone is there, but says no to helping, unless it’s the PC and they do the successful persuasion roll.

Perhaps the dialogue was recorded for a very kind Tava who was ready to make such a sacrifice, but this is not typical for Astarion🤷

Same. Tav maybe being selfless with the idea of transforming to save everyone, but he doesn't want the love of his life to just disappear on him all of a sudden and become this thing that he himself was worried about becoming. He knows what he wants and he wants to protect his spouse. 💕

I wouldn't do that either, it's his fight and his free decision. And I support him in his choice, whatever it may be.

I agree with you) Yes, his dark side became more noticeable after the ritual, but he always had it. it is enough to look at him carefully throughout the game. Even without the ritual, he doesn't become an absolute kindhearted person. But in any choice, his feelings for Tav remain.

@@AlexKhodja the only thing I miss is a bigger influence on dialogues after becoming a vampire.. additionally fangs and red eyes (changing it yourself is so fake XD) additionally in the epilogue you are treated as if you were not a vampire at all and shadowheart says that I eat a lot XD no one asks what it's like to live with astarion etc. it's a bit disappointing but maybe patch 8 will change something

It is quite literally his evil ending, & it is in the dev notes that he is terrified once ascended. He is objectively happier, and thanks you when you do not ascend him. You can like it, but don’t lie. He’s miserable ascended, he just has power. He’s abusive. You can’t just ignore canon facts to fit your narrative lol.

After the night he transforms you there is an answer of Tav that says “Too bad there is the tadpole” when Astarion tells you your life as a vampire would be different than his “faster , swifter etc..” This is after he explains he gave you some of his blood. He then answers “After the tadpole is gone we just need to see how many powers you gain.” In my understanding since he can extend Mephistopheles blessings to you via you drinking his blood, you can walk in the sun, walk in moving water and EVEN eat a lot haha
